[ Great Product. This is my second one. I would suggest getting this HD version with the plastic backer plates. Skip the well nuts, and use this instead, you will thank yourself later. Plus install is easier now that you have a something to grip onto from the inside! Rope is plenty long and strong for any Yak/Canoe. The cord has minimal stretch, keep loose for initial install while cord get comfy, then tighten one time after, and you are good to go. As Always, YakAttack made a great product even better!.

This anchor is great for use in slow moving water. My Kayak is 11' long and I weight 250 lbs and it holds great

I 've used this product many times in both freshwater and saltwater. It has saved my bacon and enabled me to catch large fish in conditions where the wind or current would have carried me over an area and spooked the fish. The light- weight yet durable construction makes this ideal for holding a kayak in light to moderate wind or current conditions with a sandy bottom and in any conditions with a more firm or rocky bottom. Using an anchor trolley system in connection with this anchor can enable you to face in any direction without pulling up your anchor.

I use this for my kayak when I 'm fishing in the Chattahoochee for Stripers. It keeps me in place and I can concentrate on fishing in current and not about being pushed down river.

Frequently Asked Questions For Lake Anchors

When selecting a lake anchor, consider the type of bottom surface in the lake, such as mud, sand, or rock, as different anchors perform better in various conditions. Additionally, think about the size and weight of the anchor, as it should be appropriate for the size of your boat to ensure stability. Lastly, consider the ease of storage and transportation, especially if you plan to move your anchor frequently.

The right weight for a lake anchor typically depends on the size and type of your boat, as well as the conditions of the water. A general rule of thumb is to use one pound of anchor weight for every foot of boat length, but this can vary based on wind and current conditions. It's important to choose an anchor that provides enough holding power to keep your boat secure in various weather conditions.

Lake anchors come in various types, including grapnel, mushroom, and fluke anchors, each designed for specific conditions and uses. Grapnel anchors are great for rocky or uneven bottoms, while fluke anchors are effective in sandy or muddy areas. Understanding the differences between these types can help you choose the best anchor for your specific needs and the environment in which you will be using it.

To ensure your lake anchor holds effectively, it is crucial to deploy it properly by allowing enough scope, which is the length of the anchor line relative to the water depth. A good rule of thumb is to use a scope ratio of 7:1 in calm conditions, meaning for every foot of water depth, you should let out seven feet of anchor line. Additionally, make sure the anchor is suited for the bottom type and that it is securely set before leaving your boat unattended.

Maintaining your lake anchor involves regular inspections for signs of wear, rust, or damage, especially if it is made of metal. After each use, rinse the anchor with fresh water to remove any debris or salt, which can cause corrosion over time. Storing the anchor in a dry place can also help prolong its lifespan and ensure it remains in good working condition for future outings.
