This is my second time reviewing this product — the first written shortly after misplacing one of the rubber bumpers between the rack and stays while in a frustrated frame of mind; incidentally, the missing piece just resurfaced following a month of hiding between the coils of my apartment ’s radiator. — during the interim I had been using a DIY substitute part I crafted from an inner tube. Yes- the bumpers are prone to falling out when putting on and removing the rack and this is pretty annoying. But the fact is this rack is, overall, a fine product! Anyway, combined my two reviews average a rating of four stars and I would say that this is accurate. Would still be great if replacements for the bumper were available for online purchase but there are DIY workarounds such as using a comparably- shaped section of inner tube. I almost returned this bike rack because once I took it out of the box and studied how to put it together, I was a bit overwhelmed. I took it back to the store with this intention, when an employee of of the JC, MO store, Dan, told me he had done some research( as had I and talked with other cyclist) and both found that this is a highly remocommended and good quality bike rack. He said he had helped several customers put this on their car and he offered to help me, as well. I am so thankful and appreciative of the assistance that Dan provided. I am very pleased with my purchase and even more pleased with the customer service I received from Dan, who went way above and beyond to help me out! Saris Bones 3. First bike rack I 've ever owned. So far it's worked out quite well. No scratches on my trunk or bumper. No issue with the mounting onto my car, except that it's a little tricky on the first try. Takes me a good 10 to 15 mins to mount onto my vehicle. Very stable on the road. Rubber mounts on the arms keeps the rack from slipping& helps prevent scratching your paint. The adjustable straps keeps the rack in place. While the anti- sway straps keeps my mountain bike secure. I love how it folds, and can be easily put away for storage. It's well designed and over all a good bike rack. The injected molded frame made with 100% recyclable materials is a plus, since you do n't have to worry about rust occurring. Having a selection of colors to choose from is a nice touch. Be warned though. If your bike has an unconventional frame, It's important you purchase the Saris Bike Beam. It 'll make mounting your bike a whole lot easier. And be sure to carry bungee cords. You 'll need them to help keep wheels from rotating while commuting.;)

Originally I purchased the traditional car bike rack but with having two mountain bikes the fit was just two tight and the bikes were are odd angles. I returned it to Dicks with no issues and purchased this one. It took a few minutes to setup but for the most part it is pretty straightforward. The rack is not to heavy and works very well. It is not a heavy duty as the original bike rack I returned but I suspect it will hold up just fine. If I was to pick out any weak points it would be the plastic adjustment knobs other than it should be fine.

These are probably the best universal type roof racks you will be able to find. I shopped extensively for racks that would be able to stand up to transporting a heavy kayak over thousands of miles. Other brand name racks like Thule or Yakima would have cost 4 to 5 times the cost of these racks. These were the only ones that seemed to be able to perform just as well as the higher priced options. We used these on a 2016 Honda CRV( does not have a rain gutter or lip to catch other types of attachment systems) to transport the kayak from NY to Florida through a major southern blizzard with these racks on the car. The racks and kayak did not budge an inch. The ratchets seemed to work fine. I cinched them up as tightly as possible and then tied a half hitch as insurance. We kept the kayak on the rack with some budget ratchet tie downs from Harbor Freight. The fact that the tie downs for the rack do go through the interior of the car may put some people off but this also make the racks very secure. I also want to add that these did not mar the finish or cause any scratches or dents to the vehicle. I highly recommend these if you are having difficulty trying to find racks that work with your vehicle.
