Have only hit balls at the range, but so far these clubs feel VERY solid and the looks are great. Can ’ t wait to take to the course

5 Jim323
Purchased four weeks ago and hit them straighter than any iron I have ever used. Last four rounds were 75, 66, 72, 69 today. Not bad for a 75 year old with 66 years of golf played. Would give them six stars ⭐️

5 Rocketman
I bought these irons a few weeks ago. Love the look and feel. Higher loft makes for higher shots that stop quicker but you don ’ t lose distance.

5 JSkip1117
Amazing looking clubs, they a very nice feel to them and hit like butter

5 Willie T

I had been experiencing age related contact and accuracy issues in my irons game and saw somed reviews of the new Srixon ZXiR and ZXiR HL irons. I decided to give them a try and purchased a set from Dick's. Based on reviews, I chose the HL version and am so glad I did. I have played only a few rounds with them so far, but am making much better contact with the ball and accuracy is much improved. The heads are made of a brand new metal composition and the feel is similar to that of a soft forging. The feel is great. I see lower scores on the horizon,

I recently rented a set for three weeks while my bespoke forged clubs were being regrouped. Wow! Even with standard specs and no fitting.... they outperformed my clubs by a long shot. They were so straight I had to shake my head sometimes. I loved them so much I ended up buying them( upgraded to the Fujikura Axiom iron shafts). The Axioms added a little height and spin which combines perfectly with the slightly hotter lofts.... with even better dispersion. I add 8+ yards of distance with improved accuracy and can still hold greens. I did n't notice a drastic change in feel of the cast vs forged( perhaps a smidge more muted but not significant) feel. Lovely clubs... I am stoked to game them next season. They are also some of the prettiest sticks I have ever seen... bravo, Callaway!

5 Billybarue
I found the Elyte irons to be a game changing product. I recently switched and love the feel and the accuracy. I highly recommend them.

5 Adam86
I love these clubs. I upgraded from a super game improvement iron from 2014 to these and it ’s a world of difference. Had a problem with the 2 of the irons not showing up with the set but after a quick call they shipped me a new set and I just had to send back the others. Super simple and pleasant interaction. Highly recommend.

5 Slim Tuna
Finally upgraded my irons after 10+ years. Had a Callaway fitting at my home course driving range, was so thorough. Went from stock length which I have played for 40 years to 1 inch over- the proper length for my height. Came up with a great shaft and head combo to suit my swing. Played them 45 rounds this year. BUTTER! Could n't be any happier. 10- 15 yards longer 100% improved feel and consistency.

5 Pmac
When you buy “ like new ” it means brand new in my experience.

Just was fit for these clubs by a Callaway master fitter at my club. The irons are made for a slower swing golfer and produce good height, distance, dispersion, and forgiveness. They are so easy to swing.

I never thought about replacing my Epic Forged Star irons unit I went to a Callaway Demo Day at my club and tried the Elyte Max Fast Irons and Hybrids. I hit them at the range and shot a 77 the first round of golf that I played with them! I am looking for years of enjoyment!

I was playing mizuno blades for 20 years and switched to these last year and am amazed at the feel, dispersion and length. Great job ping!! Love these irons.

5 Bodacious
Went and had a custom fitting at 2nd Swing in Minnetonka three weeks ago. These irons were not even on my radar, Drew Bosely, my fitter put these in my hand after swinging the G430 and i530 irons. The trackman confirmed what I felt and saw, the dispersion and accuracy was phenomenal. Played my 1st round with them yesterday and they are as advertised, was pin high with all of my shots at the greens and their stopping power is amazing. If you are in the market for new sticks, try these out and wo n't be disappointed. I 'm a bogey golfer and have no doubt this will help me bring my average score down to the low to mid 80s.

Upgraded from a 13 year old set of Razr X and I am astonished by the difference! Added 15- 20 yards to my irons and improved my accuracy incredibly. It ’s as if you just can ’ t make a bad shot and when you mis- hit these clubs are so forgiving. I rave whenever someone asks me about these clubs and all I can say is if you are considering buying a set, just do it. You will be as blown away as I am!

5 Windy City Somm
I had stopped playing golf around 11 years ago; Torn Rotator cuffs. At that time my old Big Bertha irons were already over 12 years old. I recently got my shoulders repaired and decided to start playing again. After much debate I decided to purchase new clubs and got myself a set of Elyte X irons( 5- 9, PW, AW, GW, SW), 2 Elyte X hybrids( 4H and 5H) and 2 Elyte X fairway woods( 3 and 5). I have played 10 rounds since August and I have never hit clubs as forgiving or with such ease to hit and get the ball airborne. I get great distance and The control from 90 yds in is amazing. I am 61 yo and hit my 7 iron about 140- 145 yds. Visually the clubs are stunning to look at and I have gotten many compliments and requests to swing a club or two. Since I ’ ve just picked up the game again after so long a hiatus I expect my game to improve significantly. With these clubs hitting so long and straight it ’s just a matter of time before I get my distances down and my touch back. These are phenomenal clubs, especially for older golfers. If you are looking for distance, forgiveness and height these clubs do it all. And you ’ ll look great driving around with them in your bag!

These are really good irons. Amazing forgiveness for a Players Distance- bordering on players- iron. Sleek look and great feel. Also love that PING didn ’ t make the lofts super strong on these. They produce solid distance, and great backspin. Pairs well with the Maxfli Tour Ball!

5 Big Al
I finally upgraded from my old Nike 2003 irons which I loved. I recently retired and decided to get back into golf after a long layoff. I soon started upgrading my woods with Pings which got me to do the same with the irons. I kept being drawn to these clubs every time I went to Golf Galaxy. I decided to use Pings online measuring to see what they recommended and surprisingly it was these same irons. I gained yardage and accuracy. I have a natural hook and as advertised they helped straightened it and I gained distance. I used my old 9 for a 100- 120 yds and my 8 120- 140, with the these Pings my 9 is 130- 150 and my 8 140- 160 and they feel great when making contact.

I had the i210s, which were good. I felt like they had a left- bias and upgraded to the i230's when they came out. The i230's are ridiculously consistent and accurate. But I felt like they flighted too low and were not forgiving enough. I recently upgraded to the i240s. They are a little bit more of a game improvement iron. Maybe the i230's are better for 4 hdcp and better, but as a 7- 9 hdcp, I am really liking the i240s. Compared to the i230s, they have a slightly higher flight and are more forgiving. The slightly larger head and the normal grooves instill more confidence. Maybe they are not as deadly accurate and consistent as the i230s, but I 'm more comfortable with this tradeoff and iron profile. There are a lot of great irons out there, but I have confidence in Ping and they keep rewarding me.

I was thinking about getting the older T300 irons, but decided to do a fitting. At the fitting I was able to swing them as well as these, and I 'm glad I did. Ended up deciding on these, have played 3 rounds with them, and have already seen a big improvement in my iron play. I am still a higher handicap player, but these are the most forgiving irons I have hit, and it shows on the course. Would recommend to any other higher handicap player.

5 Nickname 007
I am a 7. 2 handicap. Hit these clubs and fell in love with them. They look fantastic and have a nice feel without the harsh sound that some hollow body clubs produce. They are strong lofted so they are about 7- 8 yards longer than my previous set but still have enough spin and height to stop on the greens. I was torn between this club and the T200 and considered go with a mixed bag but in the end decided to go with the full set of T350's. My dispersion and distance control have met all my expectations. One thing to keep in mind is if you like to work the ball in either direction this may not be the right club for you and I would look at the T150's. Spin numbers and descent angle are good but not in player club territory IMO.

5 joemromero91
Great irons! Upgraded from some super old Adams irons and the difference is astronomical. Played my first round with them and the exceeded my expectations. The tech is the real deal. They were hot off the face but also very forgiving. Obviously not as forgiving as the ZXi4's but they were very easy to hit. I really like how you can feel your misses. I was a bit nervous to go from game improvement irons to player distance, but it seems to be the best decision. Not only are they great clubs, I can also grow into them as well as my game improves. Glad I went with Srixon ZXi5 irons over the P790's.

5 Aero Bear
The irons perform as all of the reviews indicate. Great looking club with tons of technology. Manager suggested the correct shaft, I have not been remotely disappointed in the choice of the iroins.

5 DelcoDave
Tried these and P790s at Dick ’s. I wanted the P790s but these felt better so I made the leap from Rogue ST Max irons to the ZXi5s for more feedback and feel. After a couple trips to the range to dial these in it was obvious I made the right choice. Learning to hit better irons has shaved 10 legit strokes off my score because they ’ ve forced me to improve my swing to hit these properly and that ’s easy to do. They ’ re very forgiving but mishits will be obvious. Wish I had bought these sooner.

5 Adone2022
Amazing club for my handicap. Very forgiving and would recommend to everyone.

5 Bigadee B
I 've been gaming this 2 iron for the past month or so. Helps when I 'm on a tee box with a narrow fairway and my driver is too risky. Have n't had a complaint yet other than it does launch a little higher than I expected it too. May be a problem on windy days but I have n't had many windy days to test it out. Feels great and the bigger face gives me a little more confidence when standing over it.

Huge shoutout to Tim Knight! This was easily a top- tier buying experience. Tim ’s expertise and swing tips made it so I could actually see the difference the new clubs were making in real- time. If you ’ re looking for a seamless, helpful process, this is it.

5 Happy
I was looking for new irons and did an iron fitting at my local Golf Galaxy. They recommended the TaylotMade Qi Max HL. I ’ ve used them a few times now and couldn ’ t be happier. They have great weight and the higher loft really helped me get them up in the air and somehow no distance lost.

I purchased the clubs over a month ago and like the feel of the clubs. They are very comfortable to swing. I feel more confident swinging and making good contact with the golf balls.

these are irons are quality. They are buttery smooth on center strikes, but they provide just the right amount of feedback on off center strikes. Distance isn ’ t punished if club isn ’ t hit on the screws. You can easily work golf balls with little effort. The only weak link potentially would be the grips. Golf Pride MCC can be hit or miss with durability.

I am hitting the ball higher and longer than I have in years. Still adjusting to the better ball flight and distance and now dreaming of shooting my age.

5 Nick
I 've been hitting with some old hand me down irons( 20+ years old) and these have greatly improved my consistency. The grips feel good and the shafts have a nice premium feel. I originally was going to buy a used set of Rouge STs or Ai Smokes, but after swinging these I decided to bite the bullet

5 Jeff
I bought these clubs about 6 weeks ago. I ’ ve been playing Ping G425 ’s for a few years and although I liked them a lot, I really wanted to try graphite shafts. The new Pings w/ graphite shafts would have run about$ 1, 300. I saw these Mizuno Speed Metals for$ 799. 00 with graphite shafts included. The felt great on the in- store simulator so I bought them. I ’ ve played 5 rounds with them now and buying these was one of the best equipment decisions I ’ ve ever made! They play just as long and forgiving as my Pings, but they FEEL great!

The Titleist 2025 T150 irons have been an excellent choice. They offer a great combination of distance, forgiveness, control, and feel. 5 BirdHunter22
Absolutely incredible set of irons! When it comes to golf clubs I ’ m definitely a major gear head lol and this may be the perfect set of game improvement irons and that ’s not something I say lightly. Looks: this is a subjective category but you ’ d be very hard pressed to find a cleaner looking set of game improvement irons. Titleist really nailed the entire T series line this year with a uniform design throughout all the models. Just a clean looking iron that is the perfect shape. Moderate top line and sole thickness and not a huge clunky head that looks like a toaster on a stick. Moderate offset that is definitely playable. I was a little worried seeing these irons online in reviews but I guess the camera really does add 10 lbs lol. These irons look great! Performance: As forgiving as any GI set out there and I ’ ve tried them all 925 Hot Metals, G440s, Elyte, etc. Great trajectory and the proper shaft will make them really perform even better when matched to your swing. I got them with the Nippon 750GH Neo in stiff flex and I get great feel, height and stopping power. These irons are so forgiving I put the 5 iron back in my bag. Sound/Feel: This is another subjective category and each person will like different things. It seems a lot of online reviews have this set as not have the softest feel. Something I ’ ve found in all hollow body designs is that the ball you play can greatly affect this metric. If you pair this with a left dash or pinnacle lol you will definitely get a less than soft sound off the face. However if you use a tour soft, super soft etc it will be great. This is something you have to figure out for yourself and not listen to the online reviews. Price: Yes, they are definitely on the high side, there is no doubt about that but I truly believe you will have this set for years so that will even out over time. I decided to pull the trigger on these after testing a lot of irons. I was very close to getting the Mizuno JPX 925 Hot Metals but I just could not get over the looks( personal preference) even though they performed and sounded great as well. Just a bit too clunky and the cavity back design was just not great. As always you have to find what works best for you. This is just my 2 cents.

5 myronkim1980
Looks great and very forgiving. A pleasure to hit with!

5 Alex
I never knew game improvement irons could help so much. My only regret is that I did not buy these sooner.

5 Mitchcumstien
I ’ ve played only 2 rounds since getting these irons but already can tell I love them!! Shot 71 with my second round with them and love the distance and feel, surprisingly forgiving too, that ’s an added bonus!! I ’ m 61 and play to a 4hcp. The red amt stiff shafts give a great response and mid- high ball flight( I ’ m normally a low ball flight). The season just started but I know I ’ m gon na love these irons!!

5 Fredo
Immediate response on great feel and forgiveness with new T350 graphite shafts after 2 range sessions. Should have them dialed in very soon with added confidence.

I did a fitting in- store before buying these clubs, and there's a lot of great irons out there. We had it narrowed down to two brands, and I ended up going with these because they had a set in stock. After playing a few rounds, I 'm still really happy with my choice. What really strikes me about these clubs is that they are both forgiving and provide feedback. When I hit it perfect, it feels perfect. When I mishit though, the club feel and sound let me know it was a mishit, but the ball still flies to about where I was trying to get it. Honestly, it's the perfect combination for someone like me who is actively trying to improve but still wants to enjoy the game.

As someone who is very new to golf, I was extremely surprised at how well I was able to hit this club in store and at my fitting. I had been teaching myself how to golf with a used JPX 923 7 iron and hadn ’ t used anything else until this. They feel incredible with good contact and maybe it ’s the smaller face making me focus more but I actually started hitting the center more consistently. My left and right shanks are pretty much gone( now I just have work on consistent low point). Love these clubs and got them on sale after my fitting- will be in the bag for quite some time as they are forgiving to hit yet challenging enough for me to train with and gives me something to strive for.

Long Irons

On this page...

  • What are long irons and how do they differ from other types of golf clubs?
  • What materials are commonly used in the construction of long irons?
  • What factors should I consider when choosing long irons?
  • Are long irons suitable for beginners, or are they better for advanced players?
  • What are the advantages of using long irons over hybrids or shorter irons?
  • How do I improve my accuracy and distance with long irons?

Frequently Asked Questions For Long Irons

Long irons are typically characterized by their lower loft and longer shaft length, making them ideal for achieving greater distance. They are designed to hit the ball farther than mid or short irons, but they require more skill to control. Unlike other clubs, long irons are often used for longer approach shots or when hitting from the fairway.

Long irons are often made from a variety of materials, including stainless steel and carbon steel, which provide durability and a solid feel. Some models may incorporate advanced materials like titanium or composite materials to enhance performance and reduce weight. The choice of material can significantly affect the club's performance and feel during play.

When selecting long irons, consider factors such as your skill level, swing speed, and the type of course you typically play. It's important to evaluate the club's loft, shaft flex, and overall design to ensure it complements your playing style. Additionally, testing different models can help you find the right fit for your game.

Long irons are generally more challenging to hit consistently, making them better suited for intermediate to advanced players who have developed their skills. Beginners may find it easier to use hybrid clubs or shorter irons, which offer more forgiveness and higher launch angles. However, with practice, beginners can learn to use long irons effectively.

Long irons provide a lower trajectory and can offer more control on longer shots, making them advantageous for skilled players who can handle the precision required. They can also provide a more traditional feel and feedback during swings. In certain situations, such as hitting into the wind, long irons can be more effective than hybrids or shorter irons.

Improving accuracy and distance with long irons involves focusing on your swing mechanics, including grip, stance, and follow-through. Regular practice on the driving range can help you develop consistency and confidence with these clubs. Additionally, working with a golf instructor can provide personalized tips to enhance your performance with long irons.
