I use this knife for skinning and quartering axis deer, and of all the knives I have( even those made for skinning deer) this knife is my favorite. Just the right size, holds an edge well, sharpens quickly, and hasn ’ t broken a tip while separating hip sockets. Have been using for over two years now( I harvest about 12- 15 deer per year in Hawaii where there is no deer season and way too many deer). I picked up this knife for a shop over 5 yeara ago, still carry it to this day. If you wear jeans with the little pocket above your bigger right front pocket, this knife fits perfectly in there so toss out whatever belt case Gerber gives you for this knife and keep it in that pocket. I have worn holes in my pants from keeping this knife in that spot on a daily basis! The knife is strong, well balanced, feels great in the hand. I 've had some blade wiggle but it's a simple retightening of a bolt. I 've worn off the rubber from the grip and I know if I ever get another one of these knives( which I will) I 'm going to put my worn grip on the new one! Only downside if that little bolt that fixes the wiggle, it strips really easy. If they used better metal or a different head like a robinson or something, it wouldnt strip as easy. Ive used and abused this knife, I use it camping, hunting, general work, no problems. Holds an edge really well, easy to sharpen.

This is a solid and well- crafted knife, comparable in quality to knives costing many times more. As a former Army medic I can appreciate the rescue features as well. The blade is razor sharp and I have n't yet had the need to sharpen. It took a little practice but I can now easily and smoothly open with one hand, left or right. I am so impressed with this knife I just ordered the 2. 0 version to keep in one of my cars. Only caveat, I 've seen some demos showing how the safety belt cutter is n't very effective. That may, in fact, be true, but the serrated edge of the razor- sharp blade is more than up to the task. This is only a good knife for crossing border into Canada which I do a lot of and where many knives are banned and where no knife can be carried for the primary intent of self- defense. The rescue and safety features of this knife help legitimize it.

Outstanding knife/machete, got this for Christmas, it can cut through brush and small trees with ease! I tested it's durability by smashing a solid ice block with it and it did n't dull a the slightest! It preforms as well as a 18 inch blade machete and the blade is half the size of them! Great durable machete! Clears trails and even chops 2 inch wide trees super easily! Preforms just as a 18 inch 1 1/2 pound machete would and is much lighter! Had it for half a year and only needed 2 sharpens! Broke the tip off by accidentally smashing a rock but it still kicks butt! It is also very easy to sharpen. I did n't realize how much I loved this knife until I lost it. I used it almost daily for just about anything you can think. The knife was extremely durable. What I ended up loving the most about the knife was it's light weight but sturdy frame. I could take it on jogs and light weight backpacking trips because of its weight. It fits easy into the pocket and you ca n't even tell it's there. Most knifes are bulky or the opening mechanisms catch on the pocket, but not the evo. When I searched for an alternative I could n't find an anything close.
