Got the bike for a great price. Bike expert at the store checked everything for me and explained how to maintain it to keep it in the best shape. Pretty awesome experience for just a bike purchase to be honest.

The Nishiki 24in Colorado has Modern MTB frame Geometry. The bike profile has a balanced smooth sleek appearance that you usually do n't see in bikes of this price range. The front suspension coil spring fork is heavy but works well. It can be upgraded to a lighter air spring fork. The 7 speed components with a rapid fire shifter works well and what is expected at this price range. An 8 speed would have been better but cost more. The wheel rims are double wall aluminum which means they can be converted to `` Tubeless '' making them almost flat proof. The wheel bearings are the old `` cup and cone '' standard. I had to adjust the bearing preload on both wheels to get them to spin freely with little to no resistance. My 9 year old Granddaughter's first ride on the bike coming off an old lead sled bike was impressive for her.

Mechanical disc brakes use a cable system to activate the brake calipers, which squeeze the brake pads against a rotor attached to the wheel. This design provides strong stopping power and consistent performance in various weather conditions. They are favored by many mountain bikers for their reliability and ease of adjustment.
Mechanical disc brakes offer several advantages, including improved stopping power, especially in wet or muddy conditions. They also provide better heat dissipation compared to rim brakes, reducing the risk of brake fade during long descents. Additionally, they are generally easier to maintain and adjust, making them a popular choice for mountain biking enthusiasts.
Yes, mechanical disc brakes are suitable for a variety of mountain biking styles, including cross-country, trail, and downhill riding. Their strong braking performance and reliability make them a versatile choice for different terrains and conditions. However, riders should consider their specific needs and preferences when selecting brake systems for their mountain bikes.
Mechanical disc brakes are typically easier to maintain and adjust than hydraulic disc brakes, which use fluid to operate the calipers. While hydraulic brakes often provide better modulation and stopping power, mechanical brakes can be a more cost-effective option for casual riders or those who prefer simpler maintenance. Ultimately, the choice depends on the rider's experience level and riding style.
When selecting mechanical disc brakes, consider factors such as compatibility with your bike's frame and wheel size, as well as the type of riding you plan to do. Additionally, look for features like the size of the rotors, which can impact braking performance. It's also important to evaluate the ease of installation and adjustment, especially if you plan to perform maintenance yourself.
