Used these under sweats in below freezing temperatures in Quebec City sometimes needed snow pants too, other times just the two layers.

Love Smartwool for days in the snow. It ’s a great base layer that I can depend on. It is super soft when you first buy it but does get scratchier with wash and wear, even with gentle cycles, mild detergent, and hang drying. I tend to wear a thin, cotton free layer underneath for better comfort and more layers. While it does offer some stretch, it is very true to size, so if you are teetering between sizes, size up. You ’ ll be more comfortable and won ’ t risk circulation compression, which will ultimately make you more cold.

[ These fit so great! I ’ m plus sized and sometimes sizing can be wonky or vague but these are a dream. They are warm for sure but I can ’ t wait until The temperature dips to really put tgem to the test.

[ My old lady and I have the smart wool top and bottom 250 base layer set. They are exactly what you expect from smart wool. Great quality, the warmth I needed, and pretty useful in most conditions. If you need a base layer or something lightweight to wear on a chilly/cold night- These are useful and for great value.

[ At first these pants feel sort of itchy but once you 're moving around in them it's very comfortable. I first wore them in 35- 40F under normal hiking pants and was too warm while moving. They do regulate body temp well but I wo n't be wearing these hiking unless it's below 35F. I 'm also not a cold bodied person and I move fast.

[ We live in Minnesota, and have pretty cold winters. This baselayer has kept me much warmer than my old baselayers, so far! Great for running, walking or casual use. I plan on using them for a winter camping trip coming up as well.

These pants should be illegal they 're so awesome. Spent 3 weeks in Asia trekking in either these or a pair of Swift pants. Only wish the pockets zipped, but that does n't detract from their comfort. They run a little more relaxed than other Icebreaker stuff; not baggy, but definitely roomier.

Nomi
I wear these for sport, around town, on the plane.... They 're flattering and comfy. The fabric is the usual high quality Icebreaker merino that never disappoints-- no stretching out or pilling. Size runs true to generous.

Ralph
[ I am an avid walker and must have my daily jaunt or I will go bonkers. I have hiked in all weather from the cold sub temps of Minnesota to the rainy and windy winters of Texas. Having warm thermals are essential. Searching online reviews, Smartwool keeps popping up. My wife and I bought two sets each of tops and bottoms and she just simply loved them instantly When ever the temp dips she gleefully pulls on her Smartwool NTS and a shell and she is out the doors. The material is just the right thickness and the seams are well hidden. It instant warms the body and as claimed, do not smell after a few uses As for durability we have to wait and see. We have other woolen garments and we can see these products appear to be durable. No regrets buying them but regrettably the color choices are limited due to stocks available.

[ A friend wears these when we walk and they look so warm and comfy so I bought a pair. They will be great for walking, travel and lounging because they are very warm and lightweight. I bought my first Merino wool in New Zealand and never regretted paying the big bucks. The 4 star rating is because of fit. The Small size is very baggy. I am thin, 120# 5' 7 '' and I feel even an XS might be that way. I will still enjoy them because they are warm. I was just hoping for more of a yoga pant slimmer fit for potential evening wear.

[ If you have a small waist but thick thighs or bum, definitely size up. I usually wear I size 4- 6 in most leggings but find in merino layers I have to size up because it's tight around my quads, these are similar. I received a size medium, which fit snuggly, but if I was going to order them again I would size up to a large. The quality of these leggings is amazing! So cozy and comfy!

April
[ Comfy and soft. I purchased a XL I am 5' 4 '' and weighed 175lbs at the mid of my second trimester being pregnant and the fit nice. I think they will fit nice after birth too though I might need to go get a M or a L later. When not pregnant I 'm less curvy with no baby bump, I usually purchase mediums. Though occasionally a large if the fit is really `` fitted ''.

[ Had these for a month. Worn them, washed them, no problems at all. I 'm 6' 1 '' and bought a medium and they were the perfect length. Breathable but warm enough for freezing temperatures.

Marty
[ Size XL fits me very well, 225 lbs 38 waist x 32 inseam. Not tight, not baggy, I hardly know I 'm wearing it. One winter day hike so far( mid 20's f), kept my legs warm. Ca n't rate durability yet, but construction quality looks good.
5
Scott
It is a great lightweight piece for high- exertion activities where you may need an extra layer for warmth. I wore these for a few days in a row, and they held their shape and did n't stretch out as some wool pieces will over time. I am 5' 6 and 150lbs, and the small is a perfect fit.
5
Jonathan
As expected, the weight and comfort of these are great. I 've worn them under ski gear and as an extra layer for a bike packing trip. I have n't really tested durability yet as they are pretty new, but the quality seems very good.

I like the black one very much. You barely notice its existence. But that's what makes me depend on it. It looks like it would sustain for a long time. I like things that will last.
5
Susan
[ I thought this was a ridiculous idea- boy was I totally wrong! Love these underwear- good fit, keep you warm and wick away sweat! you will love them!
5
Jakie
[ I have recently started wearing merino undies, and these are the best! They fit well, wear well, and wash/dry quickly. They are great for travel! They are particularly nice if you live in colder climates where you must wear multiple layers to stay warm, including long underwear, but I 've also worn them in the tropics and even as a swimsuit( more or less, lol). Great for all- around use, year- round use in all weathers!
5
chupacabra
[ These are super breathable and odor resistant. I originally bought these for hiking and travel and now I wear them everyday, they 're pretty much all I wear. For travel, when you can only take a few pairs of undies and have to hand wash and hang these to dry, I 've found these dry faster than synthetics

Bicichica
[ Decided to try the mens medium, even though I 'm a woman large in these joggers normally. Fits fine. And love the russet neutral autumn wheat color. Has a nice feel, a little cooler, since it's not 100 percent merino. Ice breaker is one of my favorite brands!
5
Laura
[ I bought another brand's merino pants a few years ago when I found them on sale, but within a year they were stretched out and kind of a mess. I then upgraded to the Icebreaker joggers I had always wanted, which are perfect for lounging and for outdoor wear! I love mine so much that I bought these for my husband. They 're a great color, plenty long for his 6' 2 '' height, and cozy but polished. We are huge fans and from now on it's Icebreaker or nothing.
5
Kyle W
The merino Wool is very soft and comfortable. Seems to hold up well so far over the first 3 months. Pretty stylish in my opinion for a type of sweatpants, I feel good wearing them at home or out to the store quick. The seems accurate, I am 6' 1 '', 190 lbs and got a Large.
5
Fly Girl
I 'm a women, but prefer a regular rise- not high rise, as offered in the women's joggers. I did not want cropped. These are a great fit, just what I wanted. I have the black and the grey blue. I wear them out and about doing errands, with merino tee shirts around the house. A good choice for lean athletic women. Please keep making these. Dark grey Navy, forest green, and higher wool maybe?

[ Great: style, fit, material, design. The liner is not tight like ALL OTHER women ’s shorts- no show liner! The zipper in the back is perfect for chapstick and a key. I have many of these shorts, my go- to for any run 5 to 50 miles.

salishfrog
[ These are so comfortable- I just bought another pair! They 're a trim fit without feeling constricting and I have n't had any chafing issues, even when they 're totally wet. I like that they dry fast so I can rinse and repeat. The 2 pockets feel secure, too. I 've had my first pair for a year and they look new so I think these will last a long time.

WoolyWearer
[ I have three pair of these and they 're my favorite underwear. One of them seems to have been sewn slightly different as it fit just a little different and felt like it was riding up for the first few weeks or so, but it eventually broke in and now feels the same as the other two. These are pricey for underwear but a fair price for something that's Merino and built to last. My oldest pair is 4 years old and shows no sign of wear. I treat them well- I do n't over wear them, wash only in cold water, and hang dry.

I bought two of the Smartwool Men's Merino Boxers for my son for Christmas. He loved them and we went back to the store to buy more!

[ Best underwear ever! Wear these things for a week while riding, hiking and sleeping. No washing needed. Unreal. Blah, blah, blah… if you want comfort and quality this is it. Yup, they cost more and don ’ t last as long as poly.

[ I love these shorts — I find it almost impossible to find shorts that fit me( narrow waist, curvy through butt and thighs), but these fit perfectly. The material is light, comfortable, dries quickly, and seems to resist odors better than other athletic shorts I have. The little zippered pocket is a nice touch, too. I only wish they came up a little higher on my waist! 5 ’ 5 ” 120 lbs, ordered size XS.
5
Sknight
[ Surprised how comfortable these short are. Very high quality. I like the fit alot, not to short not to long. I will be using these for hiking. Worn about 7 times now and still loving them.

Allison
[ These are my first pair of wool shorts so I was n't sure what to expect. They are fantastic! I thought that they would attract dog hair( I have 4 pups), and they have n't at all! My only problem is that I 'm kind of a hard fit right now and I did n't want them to be too small so they are a bit too big. But that's completely my fault. Very happy with these and I 'm sure I 'll be buying more.
5
HikeHappy27
[ I bought these shorts over the summer before a big camping trip in the Rockies and Tetons and they held up perfectly. Finally shorts that do n't ride up with any sort of movement and they kept me cool and wicked sweat. The length is perfect in the sense they are not too long or too short. I bought three more colors and these will be the only shorts I will wear now.

[ The Shifter II Shorts feel great every time I put them on. They are snug with the drawstring around the waist and very baggy through the legs. The pockets are big. The Shifter Shorts clean up easily by hand or machine and hang dry quickly.

[ I wear Merino wool shorts during week long bike tours. I find that other materials become too stinky. I was n't sure if the blend would hold up the same as 100% but I 've been satisfied so far.

Nick
[ To begin, I had to size up to an XL in these... and I normally wear a medium! They are unfortunately a bit shorter than I like, as a straight guy, but the sizing up twice helps with this a bit. The crotch also is much higher than I 'm used to in shorts like this( coming from lululemon). That all said... I love the material. I 'd like a higher percentage of wool but as it is they 're pretty nice! Have bought two more pairs from another retailer.

[ I appreciate that these shorts are not made with synthetic fibers because the air does flow through the fabric to cool you down when running in high temperatures. What a relief that is. They are my favorite running shorts of all time now. I bought both colors and they are gorgeous. The waistband is so comfortable which is a huge plus for me. They are a little bit low rise if you are tall like me. They could have a bit of a longer rise for us tall girls but they 'll do. They are still very comfortable and I will purchase these shorts again and again. They are true to size. I always wear medium in running shorts and its the same with these shorts.

Additionally, merino wool is breathable and odor-resistant, providing comfort for extended wear.
Yes, merino wool bottoms are highly suitable for outdoor activities such as hiking, skiing, and camping. Their thermal properties help regulate body temperature, while their moisture-wicking capabilities keep you dry during strenuous activities. The softness of merino wool also ensures comfort against the skin, making them a popular choice for active individuals.

The choice between the two often depends on personal preference and specific activity needs.
When selecting merino wool bottoms, consider the weight of the fabric, as lighter weights are better for active use while heavier weights provide more warmth. Additionally, look for features like flatlock seams for comfort and fit, as well as the intended use, whether for casual wear or high-performance activities. Lastly, pay attention to the fit to ensure optimal layering.
