This rain jacket is super impressive. When it comes to traveling, camping, hiking, or even exploring new cities, countries, etc. You ca n't beat the portability of this jacket. It is super thin and light making it easy to roll up and store into any type of bag weather it's a backpack, purse, or even large fanny pack. Even for being so light and thin, it easily stops water from getting through. I 've had zero issues with any type of moisture getting inside either due to prolonged periods of water exposure or leaks through any seals and stitching. I will say, because it's so thin, in colder weather, you would need a warmer layer underneath to act as insulation. That being said, you might need to get one size up than normal so it can fit over any layers you need. Also, if you are traveling through any thick brush or scraping up against rocks, you need to be careful about scraping or snagging any sharp/rough surfaces too hard to prevent any micro/macro tears in the material. Being so thin, it's not super durable, but it's not very easily torn either. Overall fantastic product and highly recommend

Been hunting for just the right fleece and this one is it. Great, breathable fleece with the rugged nylon patches in the right spots. Great pockets too. It ’s warm but if you ’ re in the alpine on a windy day, a shell to throw over is helpful. A baselayer, this fleece, and a shell and you ’ re all set for a wide range of conditions. We had a mild cold front of mid 60s in the morning and rain in Texas, this jacket came in handy. It kept me warm and blocked the strong winds throughout the day. I was impressed with this jacket from the moment I received it. Even before wearing it, I could see that the attention to detail and quality is top- notch. The stitching, the inside seams, and the quality of materials all look and feel great right off the bat. I was not disappointed when I took this on my first rainy hike. Water beaded up nicely on the outside of the shell and the pit zips came in very handy as I started heating up. I really like that the material has a somewhat soft feel to it- its not slick like other rain jackets I 've worn in the past. The material is much quieter when moving as well. I also got several complements on the jacket from some fellow hikers( I have the Cenote version- I love the color combo!) My one wish is that that the hood brim had a little more heft to it. A slightly stiffer brim would be nice during heavy rain or windy conditions. Overall I highly recommend this jacket. Its lightweight, waterproof, and a great value given the outstanding quality and overall performance.

Bought this on sale from a third party. Well constructed, smooth sealed zipper function and seemingly durably material. Have a Rab raincoat which does not have the same degree of durability. Had the opportunity to wear this in a variety of rainy conditions over the last 3 weeks. Remained dry with no wet through after 70 minutes of light to moderate steady rain. The must have chest pocket kept electronics dry throughout. I am 5 ’ 8 ” 152 lbs and range between small or medium depending on cut. This coat seems to a slightly fitted cut and the small fit fine with room for a base layer and either micro puff vest or jacket with still plenty of room for movement. Large vents are bidirectional. Small criticism of all rain coats of this version would be the lack of lining/light pil on the inside front of the jacket when it is fully zipped- the fabric can get a little harsh around your chin/mouth. Light weight and readily packable. Not yet sure what the DWR retreat rate will be but mfg specs suggest using Nikwax wash/treat products. To date, a nice light weight, waterproof shell. So far, 5 stars.

I needed a jacket that would perform in a variety of extreme environments when going inside was not an option. This jacket filled this role perfectly and has kept me dry while exploring the north Maine Woods more recently while hiking through the cloud rain forest in Costa Rica. On a cool rainy day, you can keep warm with all the vents closed and a puffy underneath. While in warmer humid weather, just open the massive vents on the sides and keep dry while still being able to `` breath '' and stop sweat from soaking you from the inside out. It is very weight efficient, easily packed, and well cut for the active user. The chest pocket is also a favorite feature of mine to safely store a cell phone while on the move yet keeping it easily accessible.

I really like this jacket. Being petite, I love the adjustable Velcro and elastic on the wrist cuffs. The cut is slim but not tight. I tend to size up for comfort. I usually wear a size 8- 10 in shirts and a large is perfect. I can cinch the waist if desired. The material has a slight stretch which I find very comfortable. Zippered pockets ensure goods stay safe. The interior is lined in a sleek material resulting in a very well constructed jacket overall. The only negative is subjective- the collar stands straight up whether zippered or not. If that bothers you, this might not be the jacket for you. It will likely touch your neck or chin constantly. On a windy day, however, I think this neckline will keep the wind out. The waterproof exterior also adds to keeping rain out.

[ I 've been a fan of Showers Pass rain gear for a long time, and this jacket is just my most recent edition. Very thoughtfully designed with MTB in mind. The vents keep you cool when working hard. The detachable hood is a great option, once you figure out where to stash it so it does n't get lost. The sleeves cinch up just right so you can regulate air flow or totally lock it out. The reinforced shoulders are great for those long days out on the mountain. I 'd read in one review that it is n't packable, but I 've been able to fit my medium into a fanny pack no problem. Last, the attached microfiber cloth for lens cleaning is super useful. My chest size suggested a small would work, and it did fit my chest, but my arm length needed the medium. The jacket fits trim and is not too baggy.

[ I ’ m both a resident physician and a gym junkie so I ’ m always on the move& love a piece that can serve more than one purpose. It ’s amazing for gym workouts/running AND I ’ ve worn it over scrubs to work for a fashionable twist. The length of this jacket is perfect to keep me cozy during my warmup without restricting any movement at the hips( IYKYK), and it ’s breathable enough to throw over my sweaty top for my drive home. For reference, I ’ m 5 ’ 4 ” with a shorter torso and it sits ~3 ” above my crotch. But honestly my favorite part is the pockets: they ’ re deep, they ’ re roomy, and they ’ re sewn at a steep angle so my belongings aren ’ t constantly sliding out when I lay down or lean over. The fabric isn ’ t perfect for me, as movements can be a bit loud( think noisy rain jacket) when I ’ m trying to examine a sleeping patient or steal a cookie from the nurse ’s station, but that also makes me think it ’ ll be pretty water resistant. I live in New England, and I 'm traveling to `` old '' England later this year. Between our record rainfall back home and variable conditions across the pond, I needed a good raincoat. Cue* hours* of research, which landed me here. So far I 've worn this coat out in several storms for 10- 20min at a time( walking the dog) and after a quick shake off in the mudroom, it's completely dry. And so am I! This jacket served me well for 10 years of steady use every winter/fall and I finally replaced it. The quality is superb, the new Pertex Shield on the shoulders/arms gives it a much more durable feel. It has a premium feel in the hand and is a nice blend of weight/durability. Fits great with layers underneath, but also works well as a mid- layer under a shell. I 'm a fan of the new color options too. In summary, this is a durable, lightweight, packable and versatile jacket that does its job in the back- country but transitions seamlessly to the front- country. Highly recommended.

I like the cut of OR jackets. I am 6 ’ 1 ” 235. The Helium Down does not disappoint regarding warmth. It has that soft down feeling with added structural integrity where one might carry a pack. The gusseting in the arm allow for a full range of motion without much rise. I have long arms and can still draw out without the jacket tightening too much in the back. If for some reason I found myself in dire need of more warmth I could wear it underneath a jacket or shell because it could compress enough to almost be a base layer and not sacrifice its loft. At which point I am certain to roast.

Love that this uses a fairly high fill power down( 800+), making it warm and space/weight efficient. I have higher fill power items like MH ghost whisperer UL( 1000 FP), but most UL garments use fragile fabrics and do n't have any weather protection, so they 're really limited to cold, dry weather. The Helium Down Jacket has weather resistance in key areas due to the Pertex Diamond Fuse panels, which makes it more versatile. It wo n't be a great outer layer if you 're expecting heavy rain, but I wear it by itself in a light mist or under a shell if heavy rain is expected. The Pertex panels are a little crinkly, but not as loud as some reviews suggest. I found the sizing to be accurate. This is quickly becoming a staple of my wardrobe from fall through spring. I ’ ve owned 2 other puffers( Patagonia and Rab). The Helium combined my favorite aspects of both jackets into one and improved on some other aspects. Only thing I can ’ t attest to is the jackets durability. I ’ ve had my Patagonia puffer for nearly 10 years, hoping this one lasts that or more! Pros:- lightweight but very warm( tested in the 20 ’s and 30F so far, expecting to see how it fairs in the negatives soon)- hand pockets are lined and warm- hood is a must have for long bouts in cold weather IMO- phone pocket on the chest fits a new pro max IPhone with a case on it- large internal open pockets, probably won ’ t use much but nice additional feature- the hood and shoulders have a water repellant material Con: My only negative is the sizing, I ’ m 6 ’ 200lbs and usually wear an XL for jackets. A large would have fit more athletically with room for another layer underneath. I live in a place it can get to- 50 or colder so having space to layer is wicked helpful, but an XL is a tough too big.

I just got this jacket, but by first impressions of use... WOW! This thing is exactly what I wanted. I have a shell for warmer days but had to bundle too many layers to stay warm on those cold days. I run very hot while skiing, I get to the bottom and need to strip or open all my layers to not overheat. This jacket gives you breathability while carrying the insulation that keeps you warm on the chair up. Literally the only thing that could be improved is the size of the armpit ventilation. Like I mentioned above I run hot so I would have enjoyed more airflow when I open the vents. But that tiny detail is the only thing I can find at fault and it's more of a personal preference. I have had a stretch down pullover hoody for about a year but wanted one that had a zipper. I found this fabric to be high quality and have never had any issues with tears. It does stretch but I wear mine fairly baggy so it does n't get tested. Its super light and you can stuff it almost anywhere. It feels like a windbreaker but it does hold some heat. I 'm a moderately heavy build and I do prefer slightly cooler temps than the average person. I feel comfortable wearing a t- shirt and this as long as its above maybe 25 or above for relatively short periods of time( hour or less). I live in central NC and on the rare occasion its colder than that, I reach for my regular stretch down hoodie. I do sorta wish it had a drawstring on the bottom but not a deal breaker.

I like this jacket, I usually wear Large and ordered a Large and it fit as expected. I prefer synthetic insulation over real down because feathers do n't end up everywhere and they tend to be warm enough. I have n't actually tested it in cold weather yet since it's summer here but I 'm confident it will be a warm jacket in cooler weather.

Ive been on one hike, temp was 30- 35F I layered with a columbia fleece kept me nice& warm. Also great for walking dogs around the block. I love all the deep pockets, fits my cell& keys perfectly. I havent tested in temps below zero yet or rainy conditions but I 'm sure if you added a shell over it would be fine

The poly insulation is just thick enough without being bulky, and plenty warm. I run hot, so this is great for me. I live in a wet climate, so water resistance is important. When I received this, the first test was to run water over my sleeve in the sink. The water ran right off. Recently had a scrap with a rose branch and the tough shoulder material was unaffected. It's a nicely styled jacket. I purchased the grey one with the branding blacked out- very cool. Would recommend!

Even though it says the fix is trim fitting, I 've found it plenty roomy. The inside feels great, i like the large hand pockets and the chest pocket. Hood is a good fit, and most important of all- it's kept me dry during a few short downpours and a moderate rain during a 4 hour hike. This is going to be my new favorite shell.

If you can only afford one rain shell, this is it! Lightweight, breathable, comfortable, AND waterproof! I wore this during the steady deluge of a Pineapple Express rain event for over an hour and remained dry and comfortable. All of the zippers( main, armpit, pocket) have been trouble- free. Keep in mind this jacket lacks a two- way zipper and an internal pocket, but despite these shortcomings I find it to be an excellent value!

[ I really enjoyed the stretch- fit feature, I could actually be active and use my arms without the jacket riding up. Then matte- like finish is fantastic and a lot more subtle than the Ghost Whisperer finish, with a soft yet durable feel. Plenty of pockets for everything you 'd need to stash away and the chest pocket fits a rather large cellphone, I use the Galaxy S8+ with an OtterBox case so this should fit pretty much any phone on the market. I have yet to be in freezing temps but at low 40s with wind the StretchDown jacket kept me very arm, the seam welded baffles do their job. I would absolutely recommend this jacket after reviewing the Ghost Whisperer as well as options from Patagonia and Arc'teryx I decided to buy the Mountain Hardwear StretchDown Jacket and I do not regret my decision.

[ This is my favorite jacket. I probably wear it more often than I should, to be entirely honest. It's just so darn versatile, though, that I find myself grabbing this jacket in nearly any situation. The fit is perfect and the angled baffles look great on anyone. The baffles themselves are much more firm than most puffy jackets, which just feels fantastic every time you throw it on. The material is durable, and the range of motion is completely non- restricting. Interestingly, I was especially impressed by the way this jacket feels when moving between being outside/inside. I 've ridden my bicycle outside and felt toasty warm while wearing this well below 30 degrees+ windchill, but then when I go inside at 70 degrees it still feels comfortable enough that I do n't need to take it off. I think everyone should have a Stretchdown. Mine has completely changed the way I think about down jackets.
