5 River Rat
I 've taken this tent down thousands of miles of rivers int he western US and have never had a problem. Super airy on hot nights and the rainfly withstands monsoon rains well. Definitely a permanent resident in my dry bag.

5 Emily
Love this tent! It zips from both sides and is super easy and quick to set up. Fits two very comfortably.

Had the Storm Break 3 years so far, and maybe a couple/few dozen uses. At half the price of the similarly featured tents from the pro competition, it's an impressive tent IMO. It's a couple pounds heavier, but that has very little effect in my application( mostly motorcycle camping). I 've had zero problems with poles, zippers, stitching, fabric, or other parts/details. I 'm relatively careful and use common sense in setup and breakdown of the tent. I use a decent ground cloth to protect the floor and avoid exposure to sharp sticks and rock etc. Also avoid over tensioning the loops and holding points when staking and setting up guylines. I 'm careful with zippers and do n't force them or zip/unzip carelessly or super fast. In my limited experience, the zippers have been excellent. The vestibule flap zippers can be a bit fussy, and I simply use a finger to `` lead '' the zipper- pull path; this prevents the overlap fabric from getting caught in the pull. I 've used it in light rain and moderately windy conditions, but not in extreme weather. It has performed and held up just fine. Having read some of the negative reviews, I do n't understand how poles can just `` break '' or bend into some strange wavy deformed condition that some have claimed- that's odd IMO, and makes me wonder if those individuals are n't revealing the entire story/truth or maybe were careless? Setup is quick and pretty simple, and is doable in the dark if you 're familiar with the process and the tent. I really like the overall design and features: roomy, vestibules, inside mesh pockets in all 4 corners, interior hanger loops, the fly- great tent in my experience!

5 Big AL
I 've used this tent for backcountry camping, hunting, using it as my tent while working wildfire in Alberta. I 've had my dog in it with my( 110lbs). and spent probably 50 nights in it since i bought it a couple of years ago. Nothing has broken on it, its still waterproof, it packs well into my backpacking bag, it was relatively cheap. Really nothing i can complain about. Nice job North Face

I recently switched to the North Face Stormbreak 2 tent from another model, and I 'm really impressed. It's durable, easy to set up, and perfect for camping. The 2- person version is spacious enough for two people and all their gear. Overall, a great choice for beginners or anyone looking for a reliable tent!

[ This tent is easy to set up( did n't even need the directions) and super roomy. There is plenty of room to stand up, a benefit in buggy or rainy environments. In its first week of use, it survived a big wind storm, hail, and a lightning storm. It weathered all three spectacularly- as did the people inside! We stayed dry and protected with no problem. We did purchase some beefier stakes to hold it down. The door zip snags a bit, but once you realize that, it is easy to adapt to. Highly recommend.

[ I 've only been able to take it out a couple times, but the Copper Spur has been worth the money. I got the mtnGLO on a whim, but it really is nice to have a non- harsh light source built in. Easily worth the extra bucks.

5 RickTee
[ Ok, let me start out saying I have a few tents( well, WAAAY too many tents). All of them were carefully selected, and are pretty great, but each has a fault or two. Too heavy, too much condensation, only one door, small vestibule for my pack.... Anyways, I did n't need a new tent, and it is not exactly a cheap purchase, but I must say, I am completely satisfied, and blown away. It is lightweight, but seems to be durable after 10 days in the backcountry. Very light, without having to go to a non- freestanding tent( seriously, how many of us really want to spend 10 minutes properly staking out and adjusting a non- freestanding tent after a 15- 20 mile day). Great to have two entries and vestibules so we do n't have to climb over each other to get out or get to our packs. The awnings are great, and totally an unexpectedly useful bonus. Even without it, it would be my favorite tent. My two cents- go for the mtnGLO. I am usually very aware of my pack weight, doing hikes in the High Sierras that start at 9, 000 feet, but it is so cool to have built in( and not overly bright) lights, and leave the rainfly folded back halfway to see the stars. Highly recommended, and if you buy a great tent to start with, you will save a bunch of money not buying more tents looking to resolve some shortcoming in a compromised tent...

[ Just recently used this tent on a back packing trip. Amazed at its quality, durability, and weight. Sporadic rain/wind throughout the days and it handled it very well. Go for the MTNglo lights, worth every extra penny. My friends were jealous.

[ This tent is a little bigger than what we needed as a family( 3people+ 1dog) for weekend camping trips, but that's what we wanted. This is not a cabin tent so I do n't need to worry about high winds causing too much stress on the frame and tent seams. I love that I do n't have to stoop whenever I 'm inside the main part of the tent. The two vestibules created when the rain fly is on the tent are great for leaving muddy shoes outside but still under cover. There were plenty of pockets on the inside of the tent for our stuff and one great thing about them was that the pockets kept your stuff away from the walls... no morning dew on your stuff!!! Setup was simple; follow the directions on the tag of the tent bag. I tried to just logic my way through it the first time and one of my poles got a little bent... not bad, but I felt like an idiot. Followed the directions the text time and it went up easy. Also, 1 person can set this tent up, 2 people is better. 1 person can take this tent down without any difficulty. The rain fly has so many Velcro straps on the underside to wrap around the poles to help keep it in place. I used maybe 2 at each vestibule end and staked out the vestibules. The rest of the fly I left in place using only the clips to the main tent. We were n't expecting much wind so I did n't bother with the rest or the guy lines and the tent did just fine. Also, the seams are taped inside using some kind of flexible water repellant tape/adhesive... awesome!!! I ca n't say how many times I 've camped in the past and the seams are the first place where condensation forms and starts dripping... that's annoying. Taped seams should solve, or at the very least help with that problem. I would definitely recommend this tent.

[ This is a camping staple for sure. I get eaten alive by bugs when we go camping or even just in the backyard. This keeps the bugs out and allows the air to flow through. Very easily assembled and it looks great! The space is perfect for a small table and a few chairs for card games etc too!

5 Aim979
[ We love to camp, so this made a perfect addition to our campsite! It provided a nice shade from the sun, and kept us dry when it was raining! It was great to have a central place to go when it was dark but no one was ready for bed yet. It ’s very portable, and super easy to set up. It took two of us under 10 minutes to do the entire thing!

5 YoAdrienne
[ I love this thing. It looks so good in my backyard. I love how easy it was to set up and how quickly I was able to do it. I love the netting on the sides but you still get coverage from the sun. My patio furniture fit well with extra space to move around. I most definitely will be recommending this to everyone

Frequently Asked Questions For Rugged Tents

When selecting a rugged tent, consider features such as weather resistance, durability of materials, and the quality of the construction. Look for tents with strong waterproof fabrics, reinforced seams, and sturdy poles that can withstand harsh conditions. Additionally, ventilation options and ease of setup can enhance your camping experience.

Rugged tents are typically made from high-quality materials designed to withstand the elements. Common materials include polyester and nylon for the tent body, often treated with waterproof coatings. The tent floor may feature a thicker, more durable fabric to resist punctures and abrasions, while the poles are usually made from lightweight yet strong materials like aluminum or fiberglass.

To choose the right size of a rugged tent, consider the number of occupants and the amount of gear you plan to bring. Tents are often rated for a specific number of people, but it's wise to opt for a larger size if you want extra space for comfort or storage. Additionally, think about the intended use, whether for backpacking, family camping, or extended trips, as this will influence your size requirements.

Rugged tents are designed to provide reliable shelter in challenging outdoor conditions, making them ideal for camping, hiking, and other adventures. Their durable construction helps protect against rain, wind, and UV exposure, ensuring a comfortable experience. Additionally, many rugged tents offer features like easy setup and portability, making them convenient for various outdoor activities.

Many rugged tents are designed for three-season use, providing adequate protection in spring, summer, and fall. However, some models are specifically built for winter camping and can handle snow and extreme cold. When choosing a tent for year-round use, look for features such as a strong frame, additional insulation, and a design that can withstand heavy snowfall and wind.
