[ For a few years now the only socks I run in are Smartwool. Other similar brands pinch my toes together too tight but Smartwool does n't so I wo n't even look elsewhere. In previous winters I run with targeted cushion mid crew run socks. I did n't even know this cold weather sock existed until last week when I ordered it. I did n't expect it to actually make a difference but it totally DID! The initial cold top of my foot did n't happen. The occasional cold toes did n't happen. I swear these are n't any thicker than my other Smartwool Targeted Cushion Run socks but somehow they are warmer! My only wish is that they came mid- crew size instead of full crew since I have wide calves and these pinch a tad. I never would have bought a full crew sock if it was n't the only option, and this is probably why I never noticed the product before. In the last two days with my new socks I ran a 15k and a 5k in 40F weather. The lowest I tend to run in is 30F but I do n't look forward to that temp. With these socks I will look forward to the next cold day because I ca n't wait to find out if my feet stay warm at that temp, too.

I bought the socks to wear with trail shoes to hike the Wichita National Wildlife area in Southwest Oklahoma, and they worked out very well. It was extremely hot and humid( sweat rolling down the legs and into my shoes), but the socks prevented hotspots and blisters. I do recommend hand washing for maximum longevity. And, you may think this silly but it is totally true: it helps if the wearer drinks plenty of water so their feet don ’ t get crusty and dry.

These socks are warm even without the heat on. I use them hunting and only have needed the heat on in the very cold hours in the morning and evening In Wisconsin, and the low setting has been enough. That allows for longer battery life. The batteries have lasted 5 hours so far without running out.( I have not needed them longer). I highly recommend these socks.
