If money is no object than get yourself a catfish series Abu, if money is tight this reel will work well if you are familiar with using baitcasting reels. If you 're going for bigger cats you might consider changing the line.

Bought this reel for a black Friday event in 2018 and have used this reel on an ugly stick catfish rod and I 'm very impressed with it. The only things I had to do is break the reel down and re- oil it and change the line on the reel but I always re- oil my reels before using for the 1st time. I highly recommend this reel for the price. I restrung this reel with 65 lb braid and it's held up great but always back it with good mono line.

Casting it was smooth and the only backlashes I experienced was just due to inexperience. After I dialed everything in, I used my thumb to cast and did n't experience any backlash. Eventually, I was able to cast it without my thumb and did n't experience any backlash! It's an incredible reel and would highly recommend. Great reels. I have 2 and am shopping for another. Wo n't buy it here because they do not have the higher gear ratio in the left hand retrieve model. Only 4 stars because it comes with combat grips instead of Winn knobs. But, I have swapped the combat grips for Winn round knobs. I even contacted Lew's and was able to get black and gold end caps for the knobs. I have one on a TP1 Black and the other on a Custom Lite. I have had this reel about a week, I am really happy with it. I love the color with just a little hint of purple on the metal. It ’s the perfect size to fit in your hand and light as a feather. For context, I have been baitcasting for about two years now, but because I did n't know I would like it, I originally bought a cheap walmart reel. I traditionally liked spin casting. But with the weather getting warmer where I live, I decided it was time to upgrade.. enter Kastking! I love their products because they provide such great value( they are not always the cheapest, but for their price, I have never been disappointed with the quality). So, why this reel? with 11+1 BBS, this thing retrieves like a top. It is incredibly smooth. I am still somewhat new to understanding how gear ratio affects casting with different baits, but everything I have used casts extremely easily, and it has opened opportunities for me to try different baits. I am a big fan of the Texas rig, but I am moving into lighter baits, which this reel makes much easier. Now, every newer bait caster worries about nesting, but the dual braking system alleviated a lot of my concerns. It has made me much more confident about trying different cast methods. I also love that it is light and solid. My old reel weighed considerably more and felt more like a piece of garbage, this reel feels strong and like it should last a long time if I take care of it. It just feels premium in your hand. It was a great buy!

Left hand wind is a must for me. I am right handed but never figured out why so many people choose to cast with their right hand and then switch hands so they can wind with their right hand. The size and weight are also just right as I mainly fish for striped bass and blue catfish with this reel perfect on a seven foot medium action rod and 15 lb. test mono. I caught a fish on my second cast and anticipate catching many more in the future.

[ This is my second Custom Pro. I have some nice Shimanos and Daiwas that I love, and I have to say for the money these Custom Pros are on par and feel pretty sweet! They have a different smoothness in the cast than the Shimanos and Daiwas. All 3 brands great in different ways. Very compact about size of a 100 reel. Super smooth and hard to backlash when dialed in. I use it for my smaller 6 inch swim baits. Casts like a dream. So glad I bought another one sale at a great price!!!
