We needed something fast for a trip and took a chance on this. Other reviews mentioned needing extra parts; I think this is correct for bikes that do n't have the traditional `` male '' frame with the crossbar from below the seat to the handlebar, but I did not need anything to attach to the trailer hitch. The included parts kept the rack very stable to the hitch and the bikes to the rack itself. As noted in other reviews, pay attention to the instructions, there are anti- sway parts that help keep the bikes from moving side- to- side, and a strap that loops between the bikes and the base of the rack to help keep them from moving back- and- forth. The bikes stayed nice and stable on our trip.

After studying some of the other reviews I purchased this carrier for my SUV and tried it out yesterday on a 60 mile trip to a local bike trail. The rack was set up in no time and the my bike( traditional design) fit on the rack with no issues at all. It ’s important to tighten the rubber straps rather hard to prevent the bike from tilting or slipping sideways, and I would also recommend installing the additional no- sway bracket as well the the additional polyester strap( both come with the carrier) securing the bike firmly against the carrier while the car is in motion. After installing all those straps and brackets, less than 5 minutes, the bike felt very secure. While driving, sometimes up to 75 mph, I watched the bike in the rear view mirror. No vibrations, no moving parts, no swaying. When back home it took one minutes to detach the carrier from the car. Overall, it ’s a great carrier and exceeded my expectations. Would definitely buy again.

Very impressed with the design, fit, and function of the GateMate PRO. It took a little fiddling with it to get it to sit on the tailgate correctly( I only had one set of pad blocks over the top at first) but once I readjusted it fit my RAM 1500 perfectly. The straps took a bit of finesse to work through the gap between the bottom of the gate and the truck bed, but that is more a function of how the truck was designed. I plan to keep a small piece of bent coat hanger wire in one of the pockets to help me pull the straps through the gap when I install it again. The Cannondale mountain bikes we hauled sat neatly in the cradle of the foam pads and the straps secured them incredibly well to the truck. For all of the goofballs that complained about the length of the strap in the other reviews- All you have to do is wrap the strap around the frame tube one extra revolution THEN thread it through the plastic ring and cinch it tight. Makes me wonder how some people manage to find their way out of bed in the morning, but I digress. This method of one extra wrap around the frame tube provides a really nice grip on the frame. We drove a couple of hundred miles so far with the bikes strapped down and they do n't wiggle or bounce at all. The mesh storage pockets are a nice touch, as is the cutout that provides access to the tailgate handle and backup camera. The material that sits against the vehicle paint is incredibly soft. Sure, there may be cheaper options out there but they certainly do n't appear to be as well- made as this one. VERY pleased with the purchase!

I ’ ve installed this GateMate Pro in my F150 Lightning. The gate is a couple of inches too wide to cleanly fit inside the frame of my Retrax tonneau, but because the GateMate is flexible I ’ m able to squeeze it in enough to close the tailgate. I might trim a bit off the sides to fix this. The product materials are strong and seem like they ’ ll last a few years. I like the pouches where I can store small items like gloves or bike tools.

I was very impressed with the bike rack parts when I unpacked the box. They are solid and feel very heavy- duty. Installation was fairly straightforward. I have a 1. 25 inch receiver, and was able to remove the 2- inch adapter.( I have a Chevy Camaro and bought a Curt hitch receiver through the Chevrolet Parts website.) ONE NOTE ON USING THE STRAPS- you may be inclined to tighten the straps as tightly as possible. If you do so, you may have difficulty undoing the straps. This is because the release tab on the strap may not have enough clearance for the strap to be released as you press the tab. In other words, you are pressing the tab against the bike frame and the tab wo n't go down far enough. Here is one solution: place a rag or t- shirt in between the bike frame and the strap before you tighten it. Then, when it is time to remove the bike, pull the rag/t- shirt out. That should leave enough clearance in order to press the release tab all the way. After securing the bike on the rack, I secured the front wheel with a bungee cord to keep it stationary. Hope this helps.

I purchased this a little over a month ago. I have a 2024 VW GTI. I wanted to use roof bike racks with it, but any roof rack will not allow the sunroof to be opened. Love this rack overall. Larger weight capacity, more convenient storing( foldable) and it has locks. Three primary boxes checked! I also like the accessories that are available, making this a very versatile rack! Opportunities: One issue is that it does n't lock in the upright position when your bikes are n't loaded.( I usually leave my rack on my hitch from spring to fall. Not'ny more!) Granted, this `` minus '' is minor because it's simple to hitch and unhitch. I just assumed this would be a default feature on any hitch rack. Another observation is a narrower zone per bike. The distance tray- to- tray is on the EPOS is 9. 5 '' vs 11. 5 '' on my older T2 Pro XT. We have 2 e- bikes, which are pretty big. For this reason, we exchanged our EPOS for the EPOS 3. Now I 'm happy!

I commute a short distance to/from work( ~6 miles round trip). I hated wearing my backpack on hot summer days. I bought this basket and it easily attached to a pretty low- end back rack and works like a champ! my backpack fits right in and I secure with a 12in bungee cord that easily hooks on to the side lattice work on the basket. It's light, so does n't add much weight. 10 out of 10, would buy again, but hopefully it holds up for 10+ years:)

I had been using an old crate so this is definitely an upgrade in the looks department. It's well built and easily attached to my Surly 24- pack front rack. The mounting is n't difficult, but seems more complicated than it needs to be. My only beef is that the dimensions are a little misleading as it's slightly tapered so something that might fit in the top wo n't go all the way to the bottom. A minor quibble- but worth noting. Overall, I 'm happy and will likely get a second one for my other bike.

[ I purchased my Saris Bones 3- Bike Car rack approximately 28 years ago and it is still going strong. I usually only carry one bike but would not hesitate to add a second bike. Due to its age, I probably would n't add a third one considering that time and weather may have weakened some of non- metal parts. It's been an amazing bike rack... highly recommend it! Saris Bones 3. First bike rack I 've ever owned. So far it's worked out quite well. No scratches on my trunk or bumper. No issue with the mounting onto my car, except that it's a little tricky on the first try. Takes me a good 10 to 15 mins to mount onto my vehicle. Very stable on the road. Rubber mounts on the arms keeps the rack from slipping& helps prevent scratching your paint. The adjustable straps keeps the rack in place. While the anti- sway straps keeps my mountain bike secure. I love how it folds, and can be easily put away for storage. It's well designed and over all a good bike rack. The injected molded frame made with 100% recyclable materials is a plus, since you do n't have to worry about rust occurring. Having a selection of colors to choose from is a nice touch. Be warned though. If your bike has an unconventional frame, It's important you purchase the Saris Bike Beam. It 'll make mounting your bike a whole lot easier. And be sure to carry bungee cords. You 'll need them to help keep wheels from rotating while commuting.;)

Happy with my purchase. Unit is not as long as I thought it was. Checked to make sure before purchasing as I have a very long wheelbase e- bike. Would have liked to see tire guides a little higher to prevent the front wheel twisting once it is strapped down. Problem solved by making sure the front wheel axle doesn ’ t protrude past the end of the guide rails. Once you realize there is an order to strapping your bike down the unit works well and holds the bike in a very stable position. I really like the locks on the upright top tube clamps as it makes it extremely difficult for someone to remove the bike from the rack and you don ’ t have to fiddle with pulling out cable locks. Like that the top tube clamps are telescopic; much superior to the Easy Fold rack, with fixed clamps that made carrying two bikes a massive headache. Also really like the lights and license plate position, although it does take a little while to realize your vehicle is a couple of feet longer than it was. No more tickets for having a covered license plate. Bikes are easy to load and rack carries two heavy e- bikes in a stable manner. Recommended.

I had a bad experience last summer with a bike getting loose on the carrier and due to the velcro straps on the tires, it was the only thing that saved the bike and any cars behind us on I- 75! I have been hauling our Pedego bikes in my van and it was very challenging. I opted to go with this carrier and I am very pleased.

I like the wheels that allow you to roll the carrier from my garage to the vehicle. The tail lights and license plate holder address safety concerns since my old rack blocked the vehicle tail lights and license plate. It would be nice if Thule developed a bike cover that allowed me to cover my e- bikes without blocking the racks tail lights and license plate.
