These were for my two and a half year old grandson. They come with a stamped steel blade that ha no lateral traction. But with a flat file you can ad an edge by filing at slight angle until there is an mildly sharp edge on the out side edge of each blade. It really changes these to a usable skate and my little buddy was truly skating around the rink on his own. We had to pull him off after an hour and a half when the session was over. He absolutely loved it. They stayed on his feet pretty well, until the wing nut losened up a couple of times and allowed the skate to expand and come off. I ca n't understand why people are complaining about weight. This is lighter then mannequins from Kwik goal and ten times easier to set up and get to and from the field, not to mention they fit in my car which other brands do n't. [ Bought these shoes to complement my other Giro shoes( I have one indoor and one outdoor pair). These have a slightly stiffer sole make them a bit more awkward to walk in( but they 're not really walking shoes) and they are a little on the narrow side- I have no issues sporting them for 45 minutes on a ride, but do n't know how comfortable they would be on a 2- 3 hr ride.
