I wouldnt say this is a `` lady '' combo as its really geared towards children. So, that could be misleading. The button to cast needs to be depressed quite deliberately and firm, something my 6 yr old had some trouble with. She loved the color and that it was a larger rod than her previous rod. I returned a rod to my local store and ended up picking up this combo. I picked it up for tog fishing and use it for all my bait fishing now. My girlfried used it fluke fishing and the only thing she did n't like was the right hand retrieve. I purchased a left hand retrieve rival reel for when she goes. The reel is smooth and also has the retrive rate in inches per turn on the side plate. The rod is sensitive but also has a good back bone to it. This is a very nice set. I 'm comparing this to my Or is Clearwater and it's holding up well. The rod is similar in characteristics. It feels a little less sensitive but acceptable. The finish is matte and really nice looking. The price shows in small details. The pieces are not marked for fit and the openings are not sealed. Neither point is really an issue. The cork handle seems a bit soft and maybe a tad lower quality than the orvis. I think this could become an issue over time and extended use. The reel seems fine. Not as smooth as my orvis either but overall very close. Very happy with it. The weak point in my opinion is the line. While I 'm no expert, it does n't feel quite as good. It's definitely functional but does n't have an end loop for easy threading of the leader. That also makes it a bit rough to thread through the rod sometimes. Anyway, of course there's a reason for the price but at that price I recommend this set. On our first outing, my son caught 5(!) Really nice trout vs my 2 on the Orvis. Obviously that's more due to the flies he was using and his skills:-) but it shows that this set works well. All the other bells and whistles are not necessary needed. It may come down to durability in the end.

I 've owned quite a few Zeb co reels over the last 40 years and they are an affordable and consistent performer. I rarely lose a fish because of the reel. They 're easy to use and fun. And this is the best I 've ever used. It's nearly silent. The drag action is smooth as silk and the retrieve is just as good. Gone is the loud ratcheting sound when a fish puts on a fight. If you like that, then grab the Authentic 33. It will sound like you expect, but this is silent and buttery smooth. Zeb co makes much more expensive reels, loaded up with quality bearings. I have fished on the tournament trail with this rod and it was very dependable. It held up well to boat abuse and shore line fishing in some rugged places. The rod guides are very strong. The parabolic flex of this glass composite rod was great for throwing swim baits, traps, spinner baits, crankbaits and chatterbaits from the Upper Bay to the Potomac. My hook up percentage was in the high 90's. I rarely lost a fish. Whether they hit at the end of a long cast or short striked at the boat the rod performed great. I bagged my PB of 5. 6 lbs with this rod and it was able to handle it with no problems. Do n't let the price fool you this is a great rod!

This reel is a prime example of when engineering meets functionality. Its extremely lightweight, sleek and has excellent adjustments for precision casting. It also solves the problem of being able to throw light lures a long way so you can put your lures in the strike zone without getting too close and spooking the fish. The reel action and drag are both exceptionally smooth and the ergonomics are fantastic even for those with slightly larger hands. This reel will remain a favorite in my fishing arsenal for foreseeable future.

This is my first BFS baitcasting reel, and it lives up to the promises of being able to cast lighter baits further. It certainly works better once dialed in properly, but as a relative novice on casting reels I was able to get near optimal settings within a two attempts and was matching my casting distances compared to a spinning reel. The gear ratio makes for a faster retrieve, and the overall weight is very light when paired with an ultralight rod. I will still keep a spinning reel for when I want to drop a bait to a certain depth since that is easy to measure by counting turns on the reel, but for all other finesse applications I will most likely be using this reel in the future.
