I am impressed with my Carhartt Poly- wool bottom. I received the thermal as part of a Carhartt Crew Field Test, but I will be ordering two more complete sets. I am truly amazed at how well this bottom works to keep me warm. One must understand, I am constantly cold, so to me, this is amazing. I am 5ft 3in, and weigh 115lbs, and the small works well for me. I have laundered it, with no ill effects. It has retained it's shape and fit very well. The bottom also fits perfectly under skinny jeans, without bunching or showing. I live in Iowa, and it gets cold here. While wearing this pair of thermal bottoms, I stayed warm. It really goes long way in cutting the harsh winds we get out here on the prairie. They do seem to stretch quite a bit. When it comes to washing I let them hang dry to avoid shrinkage and lent. I was very wary to buy these seeing the poor reviews, but by using the Obermeyer Size chart from their site, my measurements to size fit perfectly... and I have THICK thighs! I ordered both 10 and 12 just in case, but the 10 fit best. They are warm, insulated, the zippers are high quality and they have a very handy velcro cinch at the back to tighten just right. I am 5 ’ 5 ”- 155lbs and loose measurements are Waist 29 ”& Hip 41 ”. Because my thighs were my highest concern, and are for many ladies, they are each 24. 5 ” around. Size 10 fit comfortably. See pics! Only drawback is I wanted to match my new Obermeyer Cosima Jacket in Varsity Blue. The color is close but not a true match, see last photo.

Love Smartwool for days in the snow. It ’s a great base layer that I can depend on. It is super soft when you first buy it but does get scratchier with wash and wear, even with gentle cycles, mild detergent, and hang drying. I tend to wear a thin, cotton free layer underneath for better comfort and more layers. While it does offer some stretch, it is very true to size, so if you are teetering between sizes, size up. You ’ ll be more comfortable and won ’ t risk circulation compression, which will ultimately make you more cold.
