How to Grip a Baseball Bat
Knowing how to grip a baseball bat is pivotal in making sure you get the most out of your swing. Follow these simple guidelines to make sure that your hands are aligned correctly for that home run swing.
A powerful hit starts with the grip. You should always have a loose, relaxed grip and make sure the bat is placed properly in your hands. Start with placing your grip on the bat. From there, lower the top end of the bat to the ground while maintaining your grip. With the top end pointed down, open the palms of your hands and lay the bat across the pads of the fingers, where your fingers meet your hand.
Another checkpoint to use is to take your regular grip and then point your index fingers. If your index fingers are straight up and down or even in a “V”, then you are gripping the bat correctly. When you grip the bat too far into your palms, the index fingers will point in opposite directions. If you’re gripping the bat in the palms of your hands, you will lose bat speed and bat control.
It's important that you master the basics. A good grip on the bat can help you get the most out of your swing.
