As the saying goes, actions speak louder than words — but words are important, too. Communication is one of the most important aspects of softball, Jennie says. Simply calling out the number of outs during a tense inning can make a big impact.

And remember: You can’t control the umpire, your coaches or your teammates, but you can control your effort and your attitude.
