Improve your offensive game with these tips on stealing bases.
We asked DICK’S Sporting Goods Tech Rep Jen Schroeder to share top techniques for stealing bases in softball.
Schroeder says stealing bases is all about athleticism, timing and action. As they wait, players should make sure their left toe is equally balanced against the dirt and the bag. This stance helps create drive off the base.
“Your first step is super important,” Schroeder said. “Make sure you drive hard and athletically toward the base you’re stealing.”
Schroeder recommends breaking off the base as soon as the pitcher is at the top of her circle or as soon as the ball leaves her hand. Always check with your local league for guidelines and league regulations on stealing bases.
