Hauling up those heavy crab snares full of feisty Dungeness can really put a strain on your gear, but this reel has handled it like a pro. This reel is n't just a one- trick pony. I 've also taken it surf fishing a few times, casting out heavy bait rigs for halibut. The Startus 7 casts smoothly and far, which is essential when you 're trying to reach those deeper waters where the halibut hang out. I made a decision to purchase this reel because they were on sale. I am a Shimano guy. I bought one and put it on my most abused application. 65 pound braid. On my frog rod. One year later I purchased 2 more due to apparent toughness of the first. Put them on my second and third most used rods. Fast forward two more years, I have replaced all of my Shimano reels. I purchased the 30 for my daughter about a month ago to go with her Stratus rod. She wanted pink braid but we could only find 15lb line so we spooled it up and threw a topwater on it and tested it out. To both of our amazement, she casted a good 35 yards on her first cast which is about double of what she was capable of with her old reel using the same rod and line brand. We switched rods keeping the same line and again, 30- 35 yards easy. I know there are a few factors when casting, but the only change made was the reel. This led me to believe that this reel made a huge difference for her. This is probably one of the best purchases for fishing equipment by far. Not to mention, the employee in the fishing section at the Summerville, SC location recommended it. Smooth casting, lightweight, very sleek, definitely recommend picking one up.

I bought this reel( 2500 size) and paired it with a Lew's Custom Pro Speed Stick( got in on sale for$ 90) and am using with 8 lb test fluoro. I use this set up for lightweight and finesse type fishing such as skipping senkos under docks, drop shot fishing or throwing weightless texas rigs around. Will say this reel feels really smooth and can cast a great distance without much weight. Skipping under docks is way easier with this reel also because of how smooth it is. It is definitely an upgrade from the Lew's Mach Crush spinning combo and the Lew's Mach 2 spinning combo I have. My dad is trying to get back into fishing and plan to buy him this as his first reel as well. Definitely recommend.

I recently picked up my first Shimano Reel ever!!! BTR4000OC is the one I chose to go with for the option of having the ability to allow bait to run freely with out having to keep a bail flipped open. I like the freespool feature on my Penn Rival with clicker for this purpose as well. But I wanted a spinning reel and my local DSG did not have any Penn LL's in stock in store. I had toyed with the Shimano's many times in store but always walked away from them... Not because I did n't know the name, but just because of my love of Penns.. Anyhow back to the reel, I mated this reel to a 7' Berkley Lightning HD 1 piece rod with 14lb Cajun Mono backing and 30lb Sufix 832 Advanced. I took this combo out to the Apollo Beach park the next morning and caught a nice little red snapper on live bait. Then the next day the reel got the real test, I was jigging soft plastics with 15 lb flouro leader when I hooked into a good sized snook just above slot. This reel handled the snook like a dream, did not wear me out before wearing down the fish. I was able to land this snook but was unable to capture a picture as I was out in the water wading with out a camera. I do recommend this reel, will be purchasing the 8000 series to replace my worn out reel on my surf rod!

I 've always been a Shimano go to for years, and always will be, but was looking for a 2000 light reel for jigging and Shimano just does not have it in this price range with a larger high gear for more torque. I was using a 2500 Ultegra but it's just too heavy for long days of jigging. Tried to use a Stradic 1000 and it works but feels underpowered and with 6lb it's not ideal. Been using the Tatula 2000 model for inshore jigging with 6lb line and I ca n't fault it jigging for 5- 6 hours non stop being so light. The only gripe is the handle has a tiny bit of play but nothing a shim ca n't resolve. I changed the handle to a black Titanium Gomexus with ceramic bearings and now it's perfect. I am critical of my reels and I have many including the 22 Stradic and Stella as well as other lower model Diawa's. This is an extraordinary reel in how it feels. The shaft feels that it's spinning on air when turning the handle, something my other reels do n't feel like. It's really an amazing feeling. The reel never has failed once in operation and is very light. Line management is excellent but need to add a washer to get the line lay to not taper on the top from how it came originally.

I bought this for an upcoming fishing trip and the location changed from freshwater lake fishing to saltwater coastal fishing. Although it is not a dedicated saltwater reel the stainless steel bearings should hold up. I just need to be careful not to drop it too many times in the sand. We all know how brutal saltwater can be on fishing tackle it up a little heavy because I had 30lb braid on hand. This thing rocks! Pretty much any I wanted to and reeling in was super smooth and effortless. The drag was very easy to adjust and worked as described. The reel is super lightweight especially with the carbon fiber handle and will definitely help keeping from getting fatigued on long days of fishing.

bought this new reel last week and am impressed with the overall quality. The fit and finish are excellent. I spooled it up with 20 lb braid( 6 lb equivalent mono) and it spooled nicely. There is a section in the middle of the spool to keep the line from sliding which is a nice feature. I made some test casts with it and it cast very smoothly and very long. The reel itself is very smooth and quiet with the 10+1 ball bearings. The drag also seems very smooth even when tightened down substantially further than I 'll probably need. This will now be my go to spinning reel. Excellent quality.

While this is not a dedicated salt reel it is sealed and has stainless gears so it should hold up just fine. however I might be a little careful when fishing from shore because the sand has a way of getting into everything, and this is such a great reel. I spooled it a little heavier than suggested but I only had 30lb braid on hand but this reel was super accurate with test casts, putting my rig right where I wanted to go, and even while paired with a shorter rod, I was able to cast further than with other combos I have. Reeling in was effortless and had super quick gears, plus this reel is light weight, I could see fishing all day with it without the normal fatigue from heavier, more sluggish reels. I ca n't wait to put this into action because this reel is `` PRO '' all the way

This is a great spinning reel. I picked up the 2000 size to setup for some ultralight fishing. I have it paired with an Okuma Trout Rod with 15lb braid to 6 lb leader. This setup works great for casting ultralight lures. Went fishing this past weekend and the reel held up great. It's nice and smooth, fit and finish is great. Drag is very smooth. I couldnt be more pleased with this reel, Drag is great/strong, very smooth and has anti- reverse switch. Spool is exceptional for casting and line maintenance( no problems with line twist). Use in creek, lake and rivers in SW Pennsylvania for various species, with no issues. I dont see any negative aspects with this reel. Highly recommend!!!

Used to have the last model of 10k Saragosa SW. Was too big to cast or hold all day, so sold it and recently bought the 6k Saragosa SW A. Love it. Smooth and light and casts well. That said the 6k has limited line capacity. Fishing for pelagic species off the kayak in SE Florida the 8k or 10k makes more sense so may buy one for next trip down. Hard to find at local stores so online seems like the only way to get one.
