I 've been using this Surge backpack since 2019 and it has been great! I 've heard my family's thoughts on the newer model of the same backpack and they are not as impressed. The straps are more prone to breaking and the seams have started tearing pretty early in the life of their backpack. This being said, my older model has been so great! It's gone through years of hauling notebooks, folders, textbooks, water bottles, and clothes for practice after school. One of the shoulder straps did begin to tear last year( 2024) slightly but a quick stitch- job has got it back to working order. I would definitely buy a North Face backpack again!

I love how the laptop sleeve has a false bottom so when you place the laptop in the backpack it does n't accidentally knock the surface the backpack may be resting on. I dumped my big backpack years ago and traveled light with a gray Herschel which seemed just the right size. Then I found myself with a book, laptop, sandwich( cause you 've got to bring your own food on planes nowadays), and electronic cables and batteries until the Hershel was running out of space. I did n't want to go back to a big backpack but wanted something just a little bigger. This works! It's small enough to fit under an airline seat( see photo) but bigger and more organized on the inside. Plus my gray canvas Herschel showed dirt and stains whereas this one is jet black and has a slick surface that can be wiped off. It feels a little bigger and stiffer on the back but I 'm fine with that. You 're not going to get compliments with this one because it is plain black but it's super functional and with a lifetime guarantee I 'm not planning on getting another backpack for a long time.

This pack surprised me on the upside. For my daily needs, I only need 16 liters, but I carry a 13 '' laptop and want good organization. This pack delivers. It's a very good design and great materials. Well thought out internal organization. My only gripe is the fabric used for the top quick access pocket feels like cheap sweatshirt material. It wo n't scratch sunglasses, but I 'd prefer something a little nicer. That said, I give this pack a thumbs up.

It is exactly what I was looking for in an everyday pack that I can also use for day hikes. The pockets are great, the straps are all adjustable and there even a whistle on the chest strap. Lots of options for attachment of items such as poles on the exterior of the pack. I love the small fleece pocket at the top of the bag. The outer pocket is great for putting wet or smelly items in. The water bottle pockets can be a bit of squeeze if you have a full pack for a Nalgene but it still fits. There is also a hole for a hydration bladder to fit through. Overall great pack for everyday life and day adventures! Love it.

I ’ ve been on the search for a perfect every day tote. I am a mom that went from a huge spacious diaper bag to a crossbody. I wanted an in between that could carry more than just absolute essentials, but also isn ’ t a huge mom bag. This bag is amazing in functionality and also a great bang for your buck. A lot of totes I found were either too small or too large. For example Longchamp. I like the aesthetic, but couldn ’ t find one I liked from a functional perspective. This has a huge pocket in the front where I can throw my lip balms/sticks for quick access. I can put some gum in there, even my wallet. The side pockets I wish held a water bottle, but they do hold my phone or car keys if I don ’ t want to be zipping and unzipping the bag going through a parking lot with my kids. I can hold wet wipes and feminine wipes, snacks for the kids. There are generous compartments on the inside. Luxury bags never have decent compartments. This bag really is a bargain and personally I love the kanken aesthetic. This is the 7th kanken we ’ ve purchased. They ’ re always functional and hold up well. I still have a school bag from 12 years ago and it ’s still good as new. I obviously love the brand in general, but I hope they keep this specific tote/backpack around bc it ’s such a great mom bag staple, without being ginormous.
