I started using Merrills like these years ago as `` heavy duty '' slippers or house shoes. Because of back problems my doctor said that I should no longer go barefoot or just wear socks when I am at home at leisure. Also I should find footwear that offers support and cushion as I worked from home on the phone and paced on a hard tile floor. Also since these shoes do not have deep treads on the bottom they are easily cleaned if I do briefly wear them outside to bring in groceries or get the mail or the newspaper. I do not wear them out into the world keeping them clean for housewear. I have found that they are super long- lasting and can be repurposed after a time as yard shoes for working outside. I bought this shoe because I had previously used the FJ Contour Jogger golf shoe that had the same sole. The Contour casual has the same benefit of the excellent gripping sole( without spikes) and also the ability to go car to pro shop( not wearing out golf cleats). The leather on this shoe is amazing and if you 've owned FJ before, you know to buy something when it's available because there's always the poss of things changing in future years with sytle etc. The functionality of this shoe is A++, the quality is A++, the durability is A++. I can not speak for waterproof quality as I have not worn the shoe in wet conditions, but FJ has always warrantied thier products well and so I think that will be A+ as well.
