The Women's Montana Puffer Jacket is absolutely the warmest coat I 've ever had. I work outside all day in Western NC and in the winter time I was always so cold no matter how much I bundled up. But not any more. This coat keeps me so warm but it's surprisingly light so I do n't feel like I 'm wearing a straight - jacket. I wish I would have gotten this coat years ago.

I have a few bits of Fjallraven kit, including some I donated to others. Examples being the Skogso Padded, Vardag Lite Padded and this the Expedition Mid Winter. Such a piece of kit and so warm. LOVE this jacket! I 'm 6' 2 and bought XL for extra movement and layering when snowboarding. Pros: The synthetic fill is the best I 've ever felt, I honestly thought it was down fill. I love that it stays warm and holds its lofty puffiness when in wet snow conditions. My other Sitka down jacket loses its loft quickly in the arms and back when I start perspiring from a morning of hiking or snowboarding. But's it's so soft a cozy. I often just wear a t - shirt or thin base layer under it if I 'm just staring around a camp fire. It's very warm and the hand and chin backings are super soft. Cons: My only complaint is that it does n't have a well placed hood draw string for windy conditions. The single draw string on the hood is more a retention string for side to side movement of your head. And the outer fabric is very delicate, I know its gon na snag and tear on a tree branch one of these days.... I personally wish it was a little bit thicker like on my wife's Expedition down jacket.

This jacket actually surprised me a bit. I wasn ’ t quite sure what to expect but it is exactly as I ’ d hoped. I wanted a light jacket that would provide some coverage from the wind gusts as I reached peaks and summits during my hikes. This jacket does so well. It is not wind proof and does not advertise to be. It ’s a very light material and you can see light through it when held to a bulb. The stretch fabric feels wonderful. It may not be as stretchy as elastane but it is surprisingly stretchy given the texture of the jacket. The hood performs well and can be adjusted with two drawstrings and cinch cords. There is a small zipped chest pocket and two zipped hand pockets. I can access the chest pocket easily when wearing a pack. If I get too warm I just unzip the pockets and let the mesh liner ventilate some heat. The cuffs are elastic and I find they fit well. I have small wrists and they don ’ t fall up my arm. I love this jacket so much I own two. The Savanna color is exactly what I wanted, like a light olive and tan color. The jacket can be packed down very small. It can be packed into its own pocket but I ’ ve also found it easy to roll it into the hood. The weight is feather like but I ’ ve worn it a few times when carrying my pack and noticed zero durability issues thus far. I have also been using this in mild Autumn weather as an extra protective layer. I find when I wear this over my Keb Fleece Hoodie, it adds just enough extra warmth when needed. The jacket breathes exceptionally well. I find it comparable to the Ferrosi jacket, just with less synthetic materials. I am well pleased with the design of this jacket. I ’ m 5 ’ 10 ” 150lbs and could fit a small or medium. The small was very fitting but comfortable due to the stretch of the jacket. I went with a medium so I can layer under it as I want.

Purchased my Raven in Dusk last summer, and used it last fall, and getting a lot of use this spring for everyday outdoor use as advertised. It was my first purchase with the brand, and I love the jacket after years of never having a suitable transition jacket. Although I normally fit in size large, the medium fits great on me( 5' 9, 190lbs), with ample space for layering. I 'm from Ottawa, Canada and I 've found that the jacket excels in the 5C - 18C range, depending on conditions. With good layering like my down vest and/or merino base layers, I 've worn it down to 0C if there's not too much windchill, but around there I tend to switch to my Greenland Winter. Not much experience in anything more than light rain for short periods. Fit, fasteners, colour, and design/style are my favourite aspects of the jacket. Minor points, but a metal zipper and slightly lower collar without the hidden hood that I do n't expect to use would have made this jacket perfect, but it does n't bother me, and I look forward to many years of use!

I wear this on my windshieldless moto going 70 - 89 mph and it does the job on windblocking. When it rained, it keep deflecting rain. I wear a merino thermal, my casual, moto protective shirt, and my thermal heated liner, which I do n't have to turn on the heated liner at these temps because of the windblocking and having gear insulate the heat inside. I love this field jacket; my favorite jacket. I want to buy a more expensive jacket here, but this one was beautiful to pass up. Its big for sure for my 5' 5 stature at Medium, but I have full range of motion with all my gear on underneath and that's awesome. Buy it! worth it!

Great jacket for those of us living in the Southeast US. was able to wear comfortably down to around 50 degrees F with only a lightweight cotton flannel shirt underneath. You can go much colder if you have a suitable insulation or base layer underneath. I bought in dusk for a classic style yet unique colorway that stands out among your standard olive or khaki surplus jackets. The G1000 softens up a bit with wear. Supposedly water resistant, but I would caution against wearing if more than a light sprinkle is in the forecast.

[ I came across this jacket when searching for a synthetic alternative to my down jacket for backpacking. And while it's maybe just a little too heavy and bulky for my ultralight goals, I bought it because I liked it so much in general( tried in on in a store, bought it on Mossejaw). And now I wear it anytime the weather's a little chilly. It's warm, a great fit - - not too tight, not too baggy - - and the material just feels great. I 've also had it out in light rain for half an hour or so, and nothing soaked in. So it really is at least a little water repellent. Only con is, I do n't like the double, left - handed zipper, but I 'll get used to it. And who knows, maybe I 'll end up bringing it on a backpacking trip, since I like it so much. Glad I bought it during the big sale!

As I was out shoveling, I discovered the designer winter coat I bought from a big department store was NOT waterproof. Unfortunately, I weigh 274, so finding a coat is n't easy. It ’s really versatile, looks great with outdoor gear, jeans or more formal wear and is trusty and hard wearing. Fit is spot on and pockets are useful. I am surprised by how much I appreciate this old - school jacket. It is extremely durable; very comfortable and quiet; and has a beautiful timeless design and style. I have been wearing the Skogso as my everyday jacket - and bought this one on sale as a work/barn/farm jacket. I must say that I love it so much I almost hate to only wear it on the farm! That being said it is the best farm coat I have ever had - I use it in every season, with wool/down underneath in the New Brunswick winter. A note on the waterproofness of wax - treated G - 1000 - one can greatly increase the waterproofness( and durability) of G - 1000 with wax treatment( and although a bit tedious, if you enjoy looking after/maintaining fine things, it is actually fun!). That being said, no one wold claim it is as waterproof as a modern( and toxic) synthetic waterproof - '' breathable '' material. But, G - 1000 breathes better than any modern synth rain jacket; and( this is rarely mentioned) G - 1000 drys incredibly fast - even while wearing it. For me the pros of G - 1000 greatly outweigh it being less waterproof than a synth jacket. I am not going to the moon - both I and my clothes can dry by the fire; in the sun; or even walking on the trail. This is a superb jacket. Though I have never owned one - this jacket sure looks very close to the Vidda Pro - surely the Vidda Pro is based on this design?

After six months of use, I thought it was time to write a review of this jacket. I purchased the Greenland Jacket in the fall, so now after seeing three of the four seasons it's best suited for, I can say it was an excellent choice for various reasons. First, its durability. It's functioned well in both heavy rain and snow. I 've had to reapply the wax coating three times( the first attempt was a failure). I would not advise using a hairdryer to melt the wax. It's both time - consuming and results in an uneven blotchy look. Go with an iron, apply light even layers of wax and you 'll find the outcome far superior. Once I used this method, I was satisfied with the overall outcome. The Greenland Jacket will work very well during the shoulders seasons as well as the wintertime. Second, it's a great choice for layering during the colder months. I 'm 6' 0 '' 185lbs and a large will fit well as a single layer( jacket only) as well as an outer layer with a down insulation layer under the Greenland. I 've owned( and still own) various shells and this in now my go - to outer layer in the winter months. It provides moisture protection and the features I both wanted and discovered I did n't know I wanted! The four large button pockets are great for storage, easy to access when wearing gloves, and blend well with the overall look. I also found the front two - way zipper to be a great option for venting when heat dumping becomes necessary. The only small complaint is the zipper can sometimes be difficult to start, but nothing that would make me reconsider this product. Lastly, it's a stylish timeless look. There's a reason this design has been around for decades, its functionality as well as the timeless look. So in terms of both function and style, this is near the top of any choice out there. After buying the Greenland and now six months in, I can say it was a great choice and I think most anyone would agree.

I got this jacket a month ago and since I ’ ve used it during heavy rain in the city and during winter mountain climbs. I can say I ’ ve had no issues with the waterproofing. In the winter mountain, this jacket became irreplaceable for me. Being so light and breathable is such a game changer - I sweat much less, less need to stop for water and I feel much less exhausted. It ’s packing small, so it ’s super easy to fit it in the external pockets of a backpack, so you don ’ t waste any unnecessary time - game changer when you are in the winter mountain. The pockets are awesome and the jacket is super comfortable. I was worried about the Velcro on the cuffs, since a lot of jackets will loosen and let air in between the cuff and your gloves, but the Velcro works super well and gives you a solid locked - in feeling. Last but not least, it beats off strong winds like it ’s nothing. This feature helps you dress lighter, move faster, and get tired less. This jacket improved my performance per unit of effort in the mountain, which is essential since most mistakes happen out of exhaustion. Really happy about my purchase!

I was tired of always getting completely soaked every time I went out in the rain. I had been in the market for a high quality shell and something that was not Gore - Tex( as it is terrible for the environment). I knew that Fjallraven made high quality outdoor gear that was environmentally friendly and sustainable. So I purchased this and have not been disappointed. I have been out in some miserable weather and have had stayed completely dry. My only gripe is the adjusters that cinch the hood down - I have a long neck and sometimes they do not stay in place if you are moving around a lot.

Obsessed with this jacket! It ’s super comfy but still structured enough to look put - together. I ’ ve been throwing it over everything - jeans, leggings, even dresses and it just works. This is such a nice and versatile piece to have in my closet. I 've worn it for both outdoorsy outfits and also street fits as it looks so good with both! Pair with jeans is chef's kiss especially as you can adjust the waist and crop it a bit. Great quality materials and love all the tailoring.

Halfdays really delivered with the amount of pockets in this jacket! It's comfortable and surprisingly light weight while still being warm enough for spring hiking. The fabric seems very durable and( fingers crossed) has n't stained. It does run big, but I liked the look so I stuck with my normal size. As long as you do n't have a broad back, you could definitely size down.
