Love this bag. Fabric is tough, the bottom lining is great when setting the bag down on wet concrete. The bag has the perfect amount of rigidity, holds it's shape well enough that it's not falling all over you when you reach in and stands on it's own even when its not too full but is n't stiff or rough. I 've been using this Surge backpack since 2019 and it has been great! I 've heard my family's thoughts on the newer model of the same backpack and they are not as impressed. The straps are more prone to breaking and the seams have started tearing pretty early in the life of their backpack. This being said, my older model has been so great! It's gone through years of hauling notebooks, folders, textbooks, water bottles, and clothes for practice after school. One of the shoulder straps did begin to tear last year( 2024) slightly but a quick stitch- job has got it back to working order. I would definitely buy a North Face backpack again!

I dumped my big backpack years ago and traveled light with a gray Herschel which seemed just the right size. Then I found myself with a book, laptop, sandwich( cause you 've got to bring your own food on planes nowadays), and electronic cables and batteries until the Hershel was running out of space. I did n't want to go back to a big backpack but wanted something just a little bigger. This works! It's small enough to fit under an airline seat( see photo) but bigger and more organized on the inside. Plus my gray canvas Herschel showed dirt and stains whereas this one is jet black and has a slick surface that can be wiped off. It feels a little bigger and stiffer on the back but I 'm fine with that. You 're not going to get compliments with this one because it is plain black but it's super functional and with a lifetime guarantee I 'm not planning on getting another backpack for a long time.

I love how the laptop sleeve has a false bottom so when you place the laptop in the backpack it does n't accidentally knock the surface the backpack may be resting on. I 'm fairly petite and often find backpacks are too big for me... this pack fits great( I ordered a couple different packs and this is the one I kept). I specifically bought it for a trip to Europe to use on the plane and when out and about. It fit everything I needed and I appreciated the multiple pockets for organizing. Only one of the side pockets will hold a water bottle since one is too short( 24oz owala fit perfect, 32oz hydro flask was a tighter fit). I liked how the zippers for the largest two compartments could hide behind the water bottle to be less conspicuous while traveling and I was also able to use a small cable lock on them. My 15 '' hp laptop does n't fit in the laptop pocket inside the pack, but does fit loose in the main compartment.

I have this as a backpack and I love it. I am still in high school and I honestly could n't want a better bag. In my opinion it is a little small for all the stuff I had but not too bad. I love the look of it, the skinny cute bag is so nice and i love the light blue on gray. The side pockets are a bit small for all water bottles but most of the time i do n't have a hard time pushing my bottles in.
