I bought this reel( 2500 size) and paired it with a Lew's Custom Pro Speed Stick( got in on sale for$ 90) and am using with 8 lb test fluoro. I use this set up for lightweight and finesse type fishing such as skipping senkos under docks, drop shot fishing or throwing weightless texas rigs around. Will say this reel feels really smooth and can cast a great distance without much weight. Skipping under docks is way easier with this reel also because of how smooth it is. It is definitely an upgrade from the Lew's Mach Crush spinning combo and the Lew's Mach 2 spinning combo I have. I bought this at the beginning of the trout season just so I didn ’ t have the break the bank. After about a month of using it, I can confidently say that this rod exceeded my expectations. It casts nice and far, and the reel feels solid. The rod itself hasn ’ t given me any issues and is super sensitive. I would just recommend removing the line that comes on it and replacing it with nicer mono or braided. Besides that 10/10!!

It also solves the problem of being able to throw light lures a long way so you can put your lures in the strike zone without getting too close and spooking the fish. This is my first BFS baitcasting reel, and it lives up to the promises of being able to cast lighter baits further. It certainly works better once dialed in properly, but as a relative novice on casting reels I was able to get near optimal settings within a two attempts and was matching my casting distances compared to a spinning reel. The gear ratio makes for a faster retrieve, and the overall weight is very light when paired with an ultralight rod. I will still keep a spinning reel for when I want to drop a bait to a certain depth since that is easy to measure by counting turns on the reel, but for all other finesse applications I will most likely be using this reel in the future.
