In the past I had a few bad experiences with Daiwa fishing gear and as a result was skeptical of their products for years. Then a couple months ago I bought a couple Daiwa reels that impressed me for carp fishing and they were so sturdy and solid and casted so well that I use them for saltwater as well. While the reels were up to the challenge for surf fishing my Carp rods were not so I picked up 2 of these 11 Daiwa surf rods and am so glad I did. They feel so good and solid and cast beautifully. I have so much control over where my bait lands with these rods and have just enough sensitivity to see and feel even the small bites. I bought this rod and reel combo about two weeks ago, as an upgrade to my PENN Fierce IV Surf Combos for my shark surf fishing setup. Caught 3 big bat rays and a 5 ft long leopard shark on the combo with ease. Reel is insanely powerful, and by far one of the best reels you can get out there in the “ middle to expensive ” price range for PENN spinning reels. Rod is a little stiff, but it performs very well for the price of the combo and it held up well against the might of the leopard shark and bat rays with relative ease.
