The other day I hooked into a massive red in a pond and it ran straight for open water, taking out about 120 yds of line. I made a decision to purchase this reel because they were on sale. I am a Shimano guy. I bought one and put it on my most abused application. 65 pound braid. On my frog rod. One year later I purchased 2 more due to apparent toughness of the first. Put them on my second and third most used rods. Fast forward two more years, I have replaced all of my Shimano reels. And do n't expect to look back. Cost is 30 to 40 percent lower than the Shimano reels. Thank you for making the choice to keep these reels in an affordable price.

Summation, I bank fish 75% of the time. Overall, a nice, smooth, and great casting reel. I am going to give this a shot on steelhead soon. Ya it's like towing a 2 door Nissan car using a Semi truck. Due to its size it takes just a pinch of time to dial the reel in to cast& retreive. Compared to my Okuma Ceymar C65 the Penn is just a bit better in my very large hands. I have been getting into Bait Caster reels. Bought Shimano, Diawa, and this Lews reel. The Shimano Curado only had 4 brake setting and I could n't get it to cast very far without backlash. The Diawa worked ok. The tention knob was very touchy and hard to access behind the drag. The Lews had a great brake knob that had a good range of tension. Caught 3 big bat rays and a 5 ft long leopard shark on the combo with ease. Reel is insanely powerful, and by far one of the best reels you can get out there in the “ middle to expensive ” price range for PENN spinning reels. Rod is a little stiff, but it performs very well for the price of the combo and it held up well against the might of the leopard shark and bat rays with relative ease.

Used to have the last model of 10k Saragosa SW. Was too big to cast or hold all day, so sold it and recently bought the 6k Saragosa SW A. Love it. Smooth and light and casts well. That said the 6k has limited line capacity. Fishing for pelagic species off the kayak in SE Florida the 8k or 10k makes more sense so may buy one for next trip down. Hard to find at local stores so online seems like the only way to get one.

I just got this in the mail today and went fishing. Very high quality, great feel, amazing speed, and great looking as well. Only thing that was wrong was that it shows the color in black and gold but it came in red and black. I ’ m not really upset but I am very impressed with this reel itself!

I have been very familiar with their fishing products since purchasing my first tackle bag from them about five years ago. They have yet to dissapoint. I have owned the standard MegaJaws reel and this one well surpasses it.

I just ordered this reel last week and wanted to provide a detailed review of my recent purchase. Just as another reviewer shared, it is advertised as black, but my reel was a vibrant red. I spooled it with a 10lb braid and cast it with soft plastics with a 1oz weight. I set the tension so the lure just barely dropped from the end of the rod, then set the drag to 5/10. There are micro- adjust settings between the typical settings, meaning 0. 5 increments are possible. Once casting, wow, this thing can really send the bait pretty far. I would estimate I was regularly getting 35- 40yard casts on a relatively lightweight lure. Plus I was able to drop it the lure exactly where I wanted it to go. The reel is pretty typical size in the hand when palming. I would say its not the biggest or smallest, but it was comfortable to use. There is another switch on the back of the reel that changes the reel function to allow for flipping and pitching. I 've never seen this before on a reel and typically just used my thumb on the spool. When this is activated, you press the button holding it during the flip and let- go when you want the line to stop advancing. It took a few tries to get used to, but is still very intuitive to use. If you forget to switch it back when going back to do a normal long cast, it can be a surprise. However, I think it is a nice feature. I was able to catch some bass as a local pond with it and the drag was very smooth. There are a lot of bearings on this reel, box says 11+1, and it feels like it. I have multiple bait- casters, including some other higher end models, and this MegaJaws Elite reel fits right along side the others.

The reason I am only giving it four stars because of its packing teams, jobs were not well done... keeping the long story short. In general, I am happy with Shimano products and I can guarantee you this reel will last a long long time if you take good care of it. I love Shimano products and I will keep buying them. One thing you need to remember, the products are the same, however, they are good or bad depend on whom you buy them from. Invest your money to the right products and people.
