I bought this reel about 2 months ago and so far, it's done great! I bought this reel for saltwater use and it has held up fine. I 've caught everything from edge of slot puppy drum off the beach to small specks and striper in the sound. I can happily report that thus far, I have had no problems with the unsealed drag. As far as the drag's performance, it could n't work better. the drag knob is easy to adjust while playing a fish and has a nice clicky- ness to it so you do n't over adjust it. I did get a little sand in there while fishing from the beach, but after removing the spool and giving it a thorough rinse it works like new. My few complaints are rather petty. The first being that the finish seems to come off fairly easily. while having it in the canoe with me it was sliding around and the matte black finish rubbed off a bit around the rim. however, it's hardly noticeable and only cosmetic. Secondly, the rubbery handle occasionally catches the fly line when I 'm casting. It juts out a bit more than I care for.

I 'm so glad that I thought this because I did not know how to use a baitcaster but I saw that they looked so fun to use in that it's better than spinning reel at least that's what I heard online. When I actually tried it I did n't know how to use it but it was little difficult at first but I feel like this was the first beginning one to use. My best friend had one that he just bought did n't know how to use one at the time and I fully backlashed it so using this helped me to actually how to use it and it would n't backlash on me. After like two times at the pond I did it backlash in I be casting really far with this and I 'm very glad that I bought this. This is great quality for the great price it is and is very easy to fit in cars because it's two piece which means it can snap in half. So if you want to baitcaster I recommend this one if you 're a beginner.

The other day I hooked into a massive red in a pond and it ran straight for open water, taking out about 120 yds of line. I made a decision to purchase this reel because they were on sale. I am a Shimano guy. I bought one and put it on my most abused application. 65 pound braid. On my frog rod. One year later I purchased 2 more due to apparent toughness of the first. Put them on my second and third most used rods. Fast forward two more years, I have replaced all of my Shimano reels. And do n't expect to look back. Cost is 30 to 40 percent lower than the Shimano reels. Thank you for making the choice to keep these reels in an affordable price.

This reel is simply amazing! Finally got to use it for the first time a few weeks ago, and I was really impressed. Spooled it with 12lb fluorocarbon and tied on a 1/2oz. jig. Once I finally got it dialed in to my settings, everything from hard casts against the wind, to skipping docks, I had no issues with backlash at all. Very impressed with the casting distance I was getting and that DC sound!! It ’s like music to my ears. Definitely a must own. If you 're on the edge of buying this, just go and do it because you wo n't regret it. I now own two.

This reel is great. You need to read the paperwork that comes with it. It explains how it has to be set up in order for it to work as it should. For instance as the guy who posted a 2 star said he had the brake setting at 4 and the tension set to a slow fall. Is not how it should be set up. The directions state tension should be set looser than you would a non dc reel, to allow the dc to work correctly. You also need to use the correct brake setting for the type of line you are using. Granted you can cast without setting it up correctly it the dc wont function right. My honest opinion as someone who is intermediate/ newer to baitcasting( 2yrs) this reel is great for the cost and does what its supposed to do. However if your having issue it's probably user error and you should read the paperwork and try again. Then if you have issues it could be the reel. I 'm going to buy another one or I might buy the metanium dc. I love the sound too

I have several larger baitfeeder spinning reels for surf fishing, including a Penn Fierce III 6500 and an Okuma Avenger 8000 series. I was looking for something smaller/lighter but still tough enough for medium duty saltwater. I opted for the Penn Fierce IV 4500 series which I spooled with PowerPro 30lb braid, as opposed to paying almost double for a Spinfisher 4000 series with LiveLiner option. Very satisfied. Have caught blues on bait in the surf and some larger catfish in freshwater so far. Versatile setup.

I bought it last night, i got it spool with 15 pound pline flouro, set the tension knob were the lure falls slow big key to prevent backlash cast it with 12 mph wind towards my face for 3 hours not one single backlash. Do not listen to the manual on how to set the tension knob. Smooth retrieve compare to the regular slx you guys will notice that.

Left hand wind is a must for me. I am right handed but never figured out why so many people choose to cast with their right hand and then switch hands so they can wind with their right hand. The size and weight are also just right as I mainly fish for striped bass and blue catfish with this reel perfect on a seven foot medium action rod and 15 lb. test mono. I caught a fish on my second cast and anticipate catching many more in the future.

It's sensitive, so I 'd make sure you work the brake up slowly if you 're new to baitcasters. But once it's dialed it, man, it is awesome. Good length and good accuracy. Got to use this immediately on a recent trip to the beach. Not to heavy and bulky like my other reels. Smooth retrieve. Only caught small fish so the bait feeder system disnt really come into play but boy is it a cool feature. Look forward to using it for fall striper fishing!
