If money is no object than get yourself a catfish series Abu, if money is tight this reel will work well if you are familiar with using baitcasting reels. I bought this reel about 2 months ago and so far, it's done great! I bought this reel for saltwater use and it has held up fine. I 've caught everything from edge of slot puppy drum off the beach to small specks and striper in the sound. I can happily report that thus far, I have had no problems with the unsealed drag. As far as the drag's performance, it could n't work better. the drag knob is easy to adjust while playing a fish and has a nice clicky- ness to it so you do n't over adjust it. I did get a little sand in there while fishing from the beach, but after removing the spool and giving it a thorough rinse it works like new. My few complaints are rather petty. The first being that the finish seems to come off fairly easily. while having it in the canoe with me it was sliding around and the matte black finish rubbed off a bit around the rim. however, it's hardly noticeable and only cosmetic. Secondly, the rubbery handle occasionally catches the fly line when I 'm casting. It juts out a bit more than I care for.

The other day I hooked into a massive red in a pond and it ran straight for open water, taking out about 120 yds of line. I just ordered this reel last week and wanted to provide a detailed review of my recent purchase. Just as another reviewer shared, it is advertised as black, but my reel was a vibrant red. I spooled it with a 10lb braid and cast it with soft plastics with a 1oz weight. I set the tension so the lure just barely dropped from the end of the rod, then set the drag to 5/10. There are micro- adjust settings between the typical settings, meaning 0. 5 increments are possible. Once casting, wow, this thing can really send the bait pretty far. I would estimate I was regularly getting 35- 40yard casts on a relatively lightweight lure. Plus I was able to drop it the lure exactly where I wanted it to go. The reel is pretty typical size in the hand when palming. I would say its not the biggest or smallest, but it was comfortable to use. There is another switch on the back of the reel that changes the reel function to allow for flipping and pitching. I 've never seen this before on a reel and typically just used my thumb on the spool. When this is activated, you press the button holding it during the flip and let- go when you want the line to stop advancing. It took a few tries to get used to, but is still very intuitive to use. If you forget to switch it back when going back to do a normal long cast, it can be a surprise. However, I think it is a nice feature. I was able to catch some bass as a local pond with it and the drag was very smooth. There are a lot of bearings on this reel, box says 11+1, and it feels like it. I have multiple bait- casters, including some other higher end models, and this MegaJaws Elite reel fits right along side the others.

For context, I have been baitcasting for about two years now, but because I did n't know I would like it, I originally bought a cheap walmart reel. I traditionally liked spin casting. But with the weather getting warmer where I live, I decided it was time to upgrade.. enter Kastking! I love their products because they provide such great value( they are not always the cheapest, but for their price, I have never been disappointed with the quality). So, why this reel? with 11+1 BBS, this thing retrieves like a top. It is incredibly smooth. I am still somewhat new to understanding how gear ratio affects casting with different baits, but everything I have used casts extremely easily, and it has opened opportunities for me to try different baits. I am a big fan of the Texas rig, but I am moving into lighter baits, which this reel makes much easier. Now, every newer bait caster worries about nesting, but the dual braking system alleviated a lot of my concerns. It has made me much more confident about trying different cast methods. I also love that it is light and solid. My old reel weighed considerably more and felt more like a piece of garbage, this reel feels strong and like it should last a long time if I take care of it. It just feels premium in your hand. It was a great buy!

This reel is simply amazing! Finally got to use it for the first time a few weeks ago, and I was really impressed. Spooled it with 12lb fluorocarbon and tied on a 1/2oz. jig. Once I finally got it dialed in to my settings, everything from hard casts against the wind, to skipping docks, I had no issues with backlash at all. Very impressed with the casting distance I was getting and that DC sound!! It ’s like music to my ears. Definitely a must own. If you 're on the edge of buying this, just go and do it because you wo n't regret it. I now own two.

This reel is great. You need to read the paperwork that comes with it. It explains how it has to be set up in order for it to work as it should. For instance as the guy who posted a 2 star said he had the brake setting at 4 and the tension set to a slow fall. Is not how it should be set up. The directions state tension should be set looser than you would a non dc reel, to allow the dc to work correctly. You also need to use the correct brake setting for the type of line you are using. Granted you can cast without setting it up correctly it the dc wont function right. My honest opinion as someone who is intermediate/ newer to baitcasting( 2yrs) this reel is great for the cost and does what its supposed to do. However if your having issue it's probably user error and you should read the paperwork and try again. Then if you have issues it could be the reel. I 'm going to buy another one or I might buy the metanium dc. I love the sound too

I have been getting into Bait Caster reels. Bought Shimano, Diawa, and this Lews reel. The Shimano Curado only had 4 brake setting and I could n't get it to cast very far without backlash. The Diawa worked ok. The tention knob was very touchy and hard to access behind the drag. The Lews had a great brake knob that had a good range of tension. I 've always been a Shimano go to for years, and always will be, but was looking for a 2000 light reel for jigging and Shimano just does not have it in this price range with a larger high gear for more torque. I was using a 2500 Ultegra but it's just too heavy for long days of jigging. Tried to use a Stradic 1000 and it works but feels underpowered and with 6lb it's not ideal. Been using the Tatula 2000 model for inshore jigging with 6lb line and I ca n't fault it jigging for 5- 6 hours non stop being so light. The only gripe is the handle has a tiny bit of play but nothing a shim ca n't resolve. I changed the handle to a black Titanium Gomexus with ceramic bearings and now it's perfect. I am critical of my reels and I have many including the 22 Stradic and Stella as well as other lower model Diawa's. This is an extraordinary reel in how it feels. The shaft feels that it's spinning on air when turning the handle, something my other reels do n't feel like. It's really an amazing feeling. The reel never has failed once in operation and is very light. Line management is excellent but need to add a washer to get the line lay to not taper on the top from how it came originally.

This is my first BFS baitcasting reel, and it lives up to the promises of being able to cast lighter baits further. It certainly works better once dialed in properly, but as a relative novice on casting reels I was able to get near optimal settings within a two attempts and was matching my casting distances compared to a spinning reel. The gear ratio makes for a faster retrieve, and the overall weight is very light when paired with an ultralight rod. I will still keep a spinning reel for when I want to drop a bait to a certain depth since that is easy to measure by counting turns on the reel, but for all other finesse applications I will most likely be using this reel in the future.

I bought this reel, specifically, for an ultralight reel to fish small jigs and topwater plugs for panfish. Didn ’ t want to spend a fortune, as, I already have a dozen rods and reels and this is just for little local ponds here in Florida. For the money, it ’s a great little reel- great for panfish

I bough this to replace an old Diawa I had of the same nature. The Diawa lasted me over 30 years so I am curious what this can do. I would n't expect to be able to pull anything big with this but that's not really what its made for. Hoping to use it more for small brooks and trout fishing. So far its work flawlessly on 4 trips

I ran across one a few weeks back. I have to say it is a very smooth reel! These Abu Sweden made models are solid! Smoother cast then anything I have used before. Last year I cheaped out and regretted it. Hope to catch some big fish this year! Definitely worth the price!

So far so good for a first time baitcaster user. Have had couple of nest when I forgot to put my thumb on the line but after adjusting brake at every sinker change and holding thumb on the line when casting and a few fishing trips everything has been good. Very solid reel but still waiting on catching that big flattie for the true test.

We have a couple of these on hand on Fenwick Eagles with 20# braid. Good fluke and sea bass reel. Just make sure you wash it down, not saltwater sealed that well.
