If money is no object than get yourself a catfish series Abu, if money is tight this reel will work well if you are familiar with using baitcasting reels. If you 're going for bigger cats you might consider changing the line.

Bought this reel for a black Friday event in 2018 and have used this reel on an ugly stick catfish rod and I 'm very impressed with it. The only things I had to do is break the reel down and re- oil it and change the line on the reel but I always re- oil my reels before using for the 1st time. I highly recommend this reel for the price. I restrung this reel with 65 lb braid and it's held up great but always back it with good mono line.

Left hand wind is a must for me. I am right handed but never figured out why so many people choose to cast with their right hand and then switch hands so they can wind with their right hand. The size and weight are also just right as I mainly fish for striped bass and blue catfish with this reel perfect on a seven foot medium action rod and 15 lb. test mono. I caught a fish on my second cast and anticipate catching many more in the future.

I bought 2 of these reels for my wife and me. Being disable, we need easy smooth reels- these are so smooth. We tried them yesterday trolling for trout in a deep lake with great success. I have many Okuma Cold Water reels and all work generally well( the reason that I will continue to purchase). Great reels. I have 2 and am shopping for another. Wo n't buy it here because they do not have the higher gear ratio in the left hand retrieve model. Only 4 stars because it comes with combat grips instead of Winn knobs. But, I have swapped the combat grips for Winn round knobs. I even contacted Lew's and was able to get black and gold end caps for the knobs. I have one on a TP1 Black and the other on a Custom Lite. The reels cast great, the retrieve is smooth, and they are strong. And, they look good too. Get one today.

We have a pair of these in the rocket tubes for Northeast striper fishing. They are on Ugly Stik 6. 5' Tiger Elites. The reel is strong, big crank, the level winder is strong enough for 40# plus stripers and its one less thing to worry about when you are hooked up with a big bass. Plenty of drag and they hold a lot of braid( we use 30 pound Spiderwire). Just make sure you wash them well, they are not saltwater sealed as good as others.
