If money is no object than get yourself a catfish series Abu, if money is tight this reel will work well if you are familiar with using baitcasting reels. If you 're going for bigger cats you might consider changing the line.

Bought this reel for a black Friday event in 2018 and have used this reel on an ugly stick catfish rod and I 'm very impressed with it. The only things I had to do is break the reel down and re- oil it and change the line on the reel but I always re- oil my reels before using for the 1st time. I highly recommend this reel for the price. I restrung this reel with 65 lb braid and it's held up great but always back it with good mono line.

Great reels. I have 2 and am shopping for another. Wo n't buy it here because they do not have the higher gear ratio in the left hand retrieve model. Only 4 stars because it comes with combat grips instead of Winn knobs. But, I have swapped the combat grips for Winn round knobs. I even contacted Lew's and was able to get black and gold end caps for the knobs. I have one on a TP1 Black and the other on a Custom Lite. The reels cast great, the retrieve is smooth, and they are strong. And, they look good too. Get one today.

Left hand wind is a must for me. I am right handed but never figured out why so many people choose to cast with their right hand and then switch hands so they can wind with their right hand. The size and weight are also just right as I mainly fish for striped bass and blue catfish with this reel perfect on a seven foot medium action rod and 15 lb. test mono. We have a pair of these in the rocket tubes for Northeast striper fishing. They are on Ugly Stik 6. 5' Tiger Elites. The reel is strong, big crank, the level winder is strong enough for 40# plus stripers and its one less thing to worry about when you are hooked up with a big bass. Plenty of drag and they hold a lot of braid( we use 30 pound Spiderwire). Just make sure you wash them well, they are not saltwater sealed as good as others. Not a lot of bearings but smooth and tough.

This reel is a prime example of when engineering meets functionality. Its extremely lightweight, sleek and has excellent adjustments for precision casting. It also solves the problem of being able to throw light lures a long way so you can put your lures in the strike zone without getting too close and spooking the fish. This is my first BFS baitcasting reel, and it lives up to the promises of being able to cast lighter baits further. It certainly works better once dialed in properly, but as a relative novice on casting reels I was able to get near optimal settings within a two attempts and was matching my casting distances compared to a spinning reel. The gear ratio makes for a faster retrieve, and the overall weight is very light when paired with an ultralight rod. I will still keep a spinning reel for when I want to drop a bait to a certain depth since that is easy to measure by counting turns on the reel, but for all other finesse applications I will most likely be using this reel in the future.
