I bought it last night, i got it spool with 15 pound pline flouro, set the tension knob were the lure falls slow big key to prevent backlash cast it with 12 mph wind towards my face for 3 hours not one single backlash. Do not listen to the manual on how to set the tension knob. Smooth retrieve compare to the regular slx you guys will notice that.

I made a decision to purchase this reel because they were on sale. I am a Shimano guy. I bought one and put it on my most abused application. 65 pound braid. On my frog rod. One year later I purchased 2 more due to apparent toughness of the first. Put them on my second and third most used rods. Fast forward two more years, I have replaced all of my Shimano reels. And do n't expect to look back. Cost is 30 to 40 percent lower than the Shimano reels. Thank you for making the choice to keep these reels in an affordable price.

This is my first BFS baitcasting reel, and it lives up to the promises of being able to cast lighter baits further. It certainly works better once dialed in properly, but as a relative novice on casting reels I was able to get near optimal settings within a two attempts and was matching my casting distances compared to a spinning reel. The gear ratio makes for a faster retrieve, and the overall weight is very light when paired with an ultralight rod. I will still keep a spinning reel for when I want to drop a bait to a certain depth since that is easy to measure by counting turns on the reel, but for all other finesse applications I will most likely be using this reel in the future.

I just ordered this reel last week and wanted to provide a detailed review of my recent purchase. Just as another reviewer shared, it is advertised as black, but my reel was a vibrant red. I spooled it with a 10lb braid and cast it with soft plastics with a 1oz weight. I set the tension so the lure just barely dropped from the end of the rod, then set the drag to 5/10. There are micro- adjust settings between the typical settings, meaning 0. 5 increments are possible. Once casting, wow, this thing can really send the bait pretty far. I would estimate I was regularly getting 35- 40yard casts on a relatively lightweight lure. Plus I was able to drop it the lure exactly where I wanted it to go. The reel is pretty typical size in the hand when palming. I would say its not the biggest or smallest, but it was comfortable to use. There is another switch on the back of the reel that changes the reel function to allow for flipping and pitching. I 've never seen this before on a reel and typically just used my thumb on the spool. When this is activated, you press the button holding it during the flip and let- go when you want the line to stop advancing. It took a few tries to get used to, but is still very intuitive to use. If you forget to switch it back when going back to do a normal long cast, it can be a surprise. However, I think it is a nice feature. I was able to catch some bass as a local pond with it and the drag was very smooth. There are a lot of bearings on this reel, box says 11+1, and it feels like it. I have multiple bait- casters, including some other higher end models, and this MegaJaws Elite reel fits right along side the others.

My best friend had one that he just bought did n't know how to use one at the time and I fully backlashed it so using this helped me to actually how to use it and it would n't backlash on me. After like two times at the pond I did it backlash in I be casting really far with this and I 'm very glad that I bought this. This is great quality for the great price it is and is very easy to fit in cars because it's two piece which means it can snap in half. So if you want to baitcaster I recommend this one if you 're a beginner.

Left hand wind is a must for me. I am right handed but never figured out why so many people choose to cast with their right hand and then switch hands so they can wind with their right hand. The size and weight are also just right as I mainly fish for striped bass and blue catfish with this reel perfect on a seven foot medium action rod and 15 lb. test mono. The rod on the American hero surpasses the rod on The mach II I have both of these combos, but Ive had to glue the rods tip eye back on twice now with the Mach II it Pulled itself out of the tip of the rod, just by setting the hook on a Small bass, Didn ’ t notice until it felt different when I would cast and the Mach II costs a 100$ ’s more… The two rods are designed completely different in the way the tip is attached The American hero rod being far superior in quality. I wish Lews would Address this matter, it is cheaply done on the Mach II and a bummer. But anyway, if you are on the fence about purchasing the American hero combo jump on off and do it you ’ ll be stoked, my friend Fish on and keep your line tight
