Bought this reel for a black Friday event in 2018 and have used this reel on an ugly stick catfish rod and I 'm very impressed with it. The only things I had to do is break the reel down and re- oil it and change the line on the reel but I always re- oil my reels before using for...

Great product for the money. No issues with jamming so far. Casts well and the clicker is great. If money is no object than get yourself a catfish series Abu, if money is tight this reel will work well if you are familiar with using baitcasting reels. If you 're going for bigger cats you might consider changing the line.

I bought it last night, i got it spool with 15 pound pline flouro, set the tension knob were the lure falls slow big key to prevent backlash cast it with 12 mph wind towards my face for 3 hours not one single backlash. Do not listen to the manual on how to set the tension knob. Smooth retrieve compare to the regular slx you guys will notice that.

I am fairly new using a bait caster but the one I had was left handed and I ’ m a righty so I need a new one. I had read the reviews on this reel and although a little more expensive than I had planned on, once I held it I knew it was right. Everything from spooling it up to setting the brakes and the tension was so easy. I highly recommend this reel.

I made a decision to purchase this reel because they were on sale. I am a Shimano guy. I bought one and put it on my most abused application. 65 pound braid. On my frog rod. One year later I purchased 2 more due to apparent toughness of the first. Put them on my second and third most used rods. Fast forward two more years, I have replaced all of my Shimano reels. And do n't expect to look back. Cost is 30 to 40 percent lower than the Shimano reels. Thank you for making the choice to keep these reels in an affordable price.

I purchased the Zebco Roam Baitcast Combo on May 31, 2025, and after several weekends on the water, I ’ ve been really impressed with its performance. The reel is smooth and responsive, and the braking system makes it forgiving for anglers still refining their baitcasting technique. The rod has a sturdy backbone with just the right amount of sensitivity for feeling bites, and it handles everything from soft plastics to crankbaits without any issues. Casts are consistent, and backlash is minimal once you take a little time to dial it in. This combo is a great fit for anyone who ’s looking to get into baitcasting or wants a reliable backup setup that won ’ t break the bank. Zebco nailed the balance between affordability and function with this one. Highly recommended for weekend anglers or anyone looking to upgrade from a spinning setup!

I bought this product one week ago I used it on the water and it very much impressed me. I 'm so glad that I thought this because I did not know how to use a baitcaster but I saw that they looked so fun to use in that it's better than spinning reel at least that's what I heard online. When I actually tried it I did n't know how to use it but it was little difficult at first but I feel like this was the first beginning one to use. My best friend had one that he just bought did n't know how to use one at the time and I fully backlashed it so using this helped me to actually how to use it and it would n't backlash on me. After like two times at the pond I did it backlash in I be casting really far with this and I 'm very glad that I bought this. This is great quality for the great price it is and is very easy to fit in cars because it's two piece which means it can snap in half. So if you want to baitcaster I recommend this one if you 're a beginner.

I have been getting into Bait Caster reels. Bought Shimano, Diawa, and this Lews reel. The Shimano Curado only had 4 brake setting and I could n't get it to cast very far without backlash. Roman69
I am a saltwater fisherman, and I have never fished for trout, so I figured I ’ d try and give myself an advantage over my coworker who is a trout fisherman, since I use florocarbon for my leaders and it is very effective when I fish anything from Porgies and Blackfish to Stripers and Blues,( and it is lethal with the Stripers) So we fished the rivers in North Jersey in the spring and on my 1st cast I was able to land a 15 ” rainbow, I ended with 6 fish within 3 hours and kept 3 and my buddy ended up catching 3. I explained to him why I use fluorocarbon and now he uses it religiously, and his catches have increased

Bozak of Bassland
I have been using Red Label for 6 years as a leader to my braided line. I use it in 8, 10, 12, 15lb sizes, and have incredible success with it. I use the 15lb joined to 30lb braid for jigs, swim jigs, spinnerbaits, and chatterbaits. I have never had one issue with this line since I started using it, and see no reason to change to a more expensive leader material. Very abrasion resistant, great knot strength, moderate stretch, and very reasonable price. Excellent line.

For context, I have been baitcasting for about two years now, but because I did n't know I would like it, I originally bought a cheap walmart reel. I traditionally liked spin casting. But with the weather getting warmer where I live, I decided it was time to upgrade.. enter Kastking! I love their products because they provide such great value( they are not always the cheapest, but for their price, I have never been disappointed with the quality). So, why this reel? with 11+1 BBS, this thing retrieves like a top. It is incredibly smooth. I am still somewhat new to understanding how gear ratio affects casting with different baits, but everything I have used casts extremely easily, and it has opened opportunities for me to try different baits. I am a big fan of the Texas rig, but I am moving into lighter baits, which this reel makes much easier. Now, every newer bait caster worries about nesting, but the dual braking system alleviated a lot of my concerns. It has made me much more confident about trying different cast methods. I also love that it is light and solid. My old reel weighed considerably more and felt more like a piece of garbage, this reel feels strong and like it should last a long time if I take care of it. It just feels premium in your hand. It was a great buy!

Gatorrich
I have had this reel about a week, I am really happy with it. I love the color with just a little hint of purple on the metal. It ’s the perfect size to fit in your hand and light as a feather. After adjusting the reel the amb backlash system works great. It casts a mile and is as smooth as butter with the 11+1 bbs. The gear ratio is a nice for both worm and lure fishing. The drag is easy to adjust and works great. I have many reels of all kinds and makes and this is a home run. This will be my reel of choice from now on.

Left hand wind is a must for me. I am right handed but never figured out why so many people choose to cast with their right hand and then switch hands so they can wind with their right hand. The size and weight are also just right as I mainly fish for striped bass and blue catfish with this reel perfect on a seven foot medium action rod and 15 lb. test mono. I caught a fish on my second cast and anticipate catching many more in the future.

I had a okuma stratus 7 baitcast rod I bought last year. So I said why not buy the reel and match it up. What a great decision. I could n't believe how good the reel was for the price. It is smooth and casts great, and I caught large mouth and small mouth with it. If you are looking for an inexpensive baitcast reel that is good, than buy this one. You wo n't be dissapointed

Recently purchased, didn ’ t have a lot of faith that it would work well but it definitely surprised me. I put 10lb braid on and was throwing a light spoon. This thing was able to handle an all out cast and went about 40 yards. I ’ m definitely going to be getting a lot more travel use out of this little thing then I thought.

Great rod and reel. Lew ’s knocked it out the park with this one the quality feel between the overall balance and the smoothness of the reel it certainly doesn ’ t fish like a “ 100 ” dollar combo. I ’ ve been fishing over 30 years now and throwing a bait caster since I was a teenager and I ’ ll tell you this thing is killer all jokes aside. The rod on the American hero surpasses the rod on The mach II I have both of these combos, but Ive had to glue the rods tip eye back on twice now with the Mach II it Pulled itself out of the tip of the rod, just by setting the hook on a Small bass, Didn ’ t notice until it felt different when I would cast and the Mach II costs a 100$ ’s more… The two rods are designed completely different in the way the tip is attached The American hero rod being far superior in quality. I wish Lews would Address this matter, it is cheaply done on the Mach II and a bummer. But anyway, if you are on the fence about purchasing the American hero combo jump on off and do it you ’ ll be stoked, my friend Fish on and keep your line tight

Great baitcaster for the money, or if you are learning baitcasting. Hardly ever backlashes, dial the brakes mostly in and it ’s good to go. Another thing to note, photo shows line on the reel. It does not come spooled with line.

Really smooth when reeled in. ... Great reel and rod combo for the price! ... If you ’ re a fan of their Vengeance combo, this one will be a favorite as it ’s the same reel design reskinned for the Jordan Lee

Live 2 Fish
Abu Garcia has released two of these “ budget ” combos in recent years, bearing the same name but the combos are much different. This current model sports a digital camo look, with a sleek flat black reel and solid rod. If you ’ re a fan of their Vengeance combo, this one will be a favorite as it ’s the same reel design reskinned for the Jordan Lee branding. It ’s not as low profile as the original Joran Lee combo was but it ’s still a solid workhorse for the money.

Works perfectly. Only comes with a screw in bracket. Wish it had some sort of c- clamp option instead of a permanent screw on bracket. Otherwise it works great.

Easy to use for beginners. Always know your line will be spooled properly in under five minutes.
A baitcasting reel line is specifically designed for use with baitcasting reels, which offer greater control and precision when casting. Unlike spinning reels, baitcasting reels allow anglers to use heavier lines and lures, making them suitable for targeting larger fish. The line's construction and thickness can vary, impacting casting distance and sensitivity.
Baitcasting reel lines are typically made from materials such as monofilament, fluorocarbon, and braided lines. Monofilament lines are known for their stretch and ease of use, while fluorocarbon lines offer low visibility underwater and better sensitivity. Braided lines provide high strength and durability, making them ideal for heavy cover fishing.
When selecting a baitcasting reel line, consider factors such as line strength, diameter, and material type. The line's strength should match the target species and fishing conditions, while the diameter can affect casting distance and visibility. Additionally, think about the type of fishing you'll be doing, as different materials perform better in various environments.
Line capacity refers to the amount of line a baitcasting reel can hold, which is crucial for successful fishing. A reel with a higher line capacity allows for longer casts and the ability to handle larger fish without running out of line. It's important to match the line capacity with the type of fishing you plan to do, ensuring you have enough line for your specific needs.
The gear ratio in baitcasting reels indicates how many times the spool rotates for each turn of the handle. A higher gear ratio allows for faster retrieval of line, which is beneficial when fishing with fast-moving lures or when reeling in fish quickly. Conversely, a lower gear ratio provides more torque, making it easier to handle larger fish.
Yes, braided line is commonly used with baitcasting reels due to its high strength and low diameter. This type of line allows for longer casts and better sensitivity, making it easier to detect bites. However, it's important to adjust the reel's braking system to accommodate the unique characteristics of braided line to prevent backlash.
Drag is a critical feature in baitcasting reels that allows anglers to control the amount of resistance a fish feels when pulling on the line. A smooth and adjustable drag system is essential for preventing line breakage during a fight, especially with larger fish. Understanding how to set and adjust the drag can significantly impact your success on the water.
Yes, different types of baitcasting reel lines are better suited for specific fishing scenarios. For instance, fluorocarbon lines are often preferred for clear water conditions due to their invisibility, while braided lines are favored for heavy cover fishing because of their strength. Matching the line type to your fishing environment and target species can enhance your overall fishing experience.
