I bought this reel almost two weeks ago To fish for stripers, catfish, and carp. The reel is built well and not made of cheap materials, the casting and retrieving are super smooth. You could use this reel with or without the bait feeder feature, but if ur bottom fishing this is a great feature to have and use. This is my first bait feeder I owned and I ’ m overall impressed, Okuma makes great products and I will be purchasing another of the same reel.

I bought this last month to replace a reel that froze up. I did curbside pickup at the Bradenton FL location. Very easy transaction. I caught some nice fish off the beach with it!

Got to use this immediately on a recent trip to the beach. Not to heavy and bulky like my other reels. Smooth retrieve. Only caught small fish so the bait feeder system disnt really come into play but boy is it a cool feature. Look forward to using it for fall striper fishing!

I now have 3 Okuma reels in this type. Without the baitrunner feature its great., But with it, its excellent. It's great for live bait fishing or as a downrigger Reel.

Have caught many fish, very versatile with lures and a definite plus for kids learning to use live bait. Just turn the handle and it goes to the 2nd drag after hook set.
A baitfeeder reel is a specialized fishing reel designed to allow anglers to let fish take the bait without feeling resistance. It features a secondary drag system that can be adjusted to allow line to run freely while the fish is swimming away. Once the angler is ready to set the hook, they can easily switch to the primary drag system for a secure catch.
Using a baitfeeder reel offers several advantages, including improved sensitivity and a more natural presentation of bait. This type of reel allows fish to take the bait without feeling the weight of the line, increasing the chances of a successful catch. Additionally, baitfeeder reels are versatile and can be used in various fishing environments, from freshwater to saltwater.
Baitfeeder reels are particularly effective for bottom fishing, carp fishing, and targeting species that are known to nibble before taking the bait fully. They are ideal for situations where a stealthy approach is necessary, as the design minimizes resistance felt by the fish. This makes them a popular choice among anglers looking to enhance their fishing experience.
When selecting a baitfeeder reel, consider factors such as gear ratio, drag system, and line capacity to ensure it meets your fishing needs. Additionally, look for features like construction materials for durability and weight for ease of use. Comfort during long fishing sessions is also important, so consider the handle design and overall ergonomics of the reel.
Baitfeeder reels differ from traditional spinning reels primarily in their dual drag systems, which allow for both free-running and controlled drag settings. This feature enables anglers to let fish take the bait without resistance, which is not typically possible with standard spinning reels. Additionally, baitfeeder reels often have a more specialized design tailored for specific fishing techniques.
