[ Taken out twice so far with my Oru Kayak Bay model. I did pinch myself( and that turned into a nasty blood blister) when putting the paddle together the first time- because it is so much easier to connect/glide than my Werner paddle board paddle. Works as expected. I like that it breaks down into 4 smaller pieces for easy transport. It's light weight and floats.

Although I have n't used it a lot yet so far I do like it. The only trouble I have faced so far is step 3 locking in both sides of the cockpit handle to get the `` click '' sound. The 1st side goes easy but it is the 2nd I have trouble with.

Love this boat. I am always happiest when I have a boat in my car, but my Break- apart takes up the whole back of the car and inflatables are cumbersome and difficult to dry. The Oru is perfect. My only problem was I didn ’ t understand how much strength it took to unfold and fold it( I am a small woman in my 70s). So I learned to use my foot and body weight. But I love it. Thank you.

Straight shaft kayak paddles offer a more traditional design that can enhance your paddling efficiency. They provide a comfortable grip and allow for a more natural hand position, which can reduce fatigue during long paddling sessions. Additionally, they are often lighter than other paddle types, making them easier to maneuver.
Straight shaft kayak paddles are typically made from materials like aluminum, fiberglass, or carbon fiber. Aluminum paddles are durable and affordable, while fiberglass offers a good balance of weight and strength. Carbon fiber paddles are the lightest and most performance-oriented, but they tend to be more expensive.
Yes, straight shaft kayak paddles can be used for various types of kayaking, including recreational, touring, and even some whitewater applications. Their versatility makes them a popular choice among paddlers of all skill levels. However, the specific design and length of the paddle may be more suitable for certain styles of kayaking.
Choosing the right length for a straight shaft kayak paddle depends on your height, the width of your kayak, and your paddling style. Generally, taller paddlers or those with wider kayaks may need longer paddles. It's important to consider your comfort and efficiency while paddling, so testing different lengths can help you find the best fit.
When selecting a straight shaft kayak paddle for long-distance paddling, consider factors such as weight, material, and blade design. A lighter paddle can reduce fatigue over long distances, while a blade shape that suits your paddling style can enhance efficiency. Additionally, look for features like ergonomic grips for added comfort during extended use.
