1st PFD. The Fisherman has more adjustment straps to get a snug fit and the is more comfortable than the other comparable PFDs I tried on. The rigidity of the 2 front zippered pockets is also a plus, IMO, over the other comparable PFDs because they act as trays to set gear on when making fishing setup adjustemnts. However, some of the other comparable PFDs seem to have more gear storage options/pockets than the Fisherman but comfort and adjustment was more important to me than gear storage volume. Plus, more gear in and on the PDF equals more weight which may not be a good thing in an emergency situation whilst on a lake or river.

Bought this in preparation for a hike in desert canyon country. Used it to filter 30+ liters of very dirty water without any problem at all with clogging. Purified water looked good, tasted fine, no sediment. Faint odor remained, however- the original water stank from decaying leaves, etc. My friends gave up on their conventional filters after a few liters and Steripens were useless because of turbidity.

I have a collection of water filters including the older model MSR hyperflow filter and the new 3 ounce Sawyer, but this one ca n't help but make you smile when used. The Sawyer is a pain to fill the dirty water bag, used a Platypus bag with only slightly better results. The older Hyperflow filter is a pain to backflush and gets hard to pump, replaced the filter but the new one is even harder to pump. This new high- dollar filter leaked water out the handle- side of the pump when new, took it apart and spread the lube around better and it sealed up fine. Used it on a overnight pack and was very very happy with how little effort the pump takes and how fast it fills a bottle. It is a little bigger than the hyperflow but sooo much better. The inlet filter looks overkill and will be hard to use in a small water seep but I am sure it will work out. Overall it is so fast and easy to use it is well worth the price.

I could say it's the most advanced, easy to use portable purifier on the market, but that's old news. Yes, it is bulky and heavy for backpacking compared to filtering- only options, but it purifies(!), and freezing will not render it unusable. With widespread contamination of wild water( lakes, rivers etc) with human feces and even tap water uncertain, I wanted the anti virus feature. I have used Sweetwater, and other brands for bacteria and cysts but the no chemical virus elimination is promising. Since I have not tested this in a clinical lab setting I ca n't promise you there are no viruses. I will say the thing pumps water like no tomorrow and the design seems sturdy and simple. While most people are using bottled water and even Coke when the local retail does n't do bottled water, my daughter is free as bird to pump her own. I will say that I have some other brand bottles besides Nalgene and they do n't work with the clean side threads on the Guardian. So you must carry at least one Nalgene standard widemouth with you.

I bought this product a year ago. I have used it with my( 2. 5 year old then and) now 3. 5 and my oldest son now 5. The are easy to take on and off. The feature of removing the pads slowly is awesome. My youngest has all the pads in and my oldest has two pass removed now and is learning to swim great. It keeps them a float quickly rising them to the surface if they jump in the water. It does n't shift on them at all when tightened appropriately and also not invasive if they are n't in the water. They do n't mind walking around with it on. I love that they can be independent in the water at this age.

If you are looking for something that completely holds child up and out of the water with no attention from you, then this is not for you. However, if you are looking for something to help your child actually learn to swim on their own, there is literally nothing better- or even close!!! I have been looking for this exact product since last summer, as I used it for my 2 older children and there is nothing even close to as good to teach a child to swim on their own. They are now 16 and 14, and could swim 100% independently at 2 and 3 thanks to this product. Flotation in both front and back, unlike traditional bubbles, but without arm flotation, like the newly popular puddle jumper, which restricts arm movement to correctly `` swim '' properly. Puddle jumpers are great if you want a ton of flotation, but too much if you want to actually teach to swim. But this Swimways `` vest '' allows you to slowly and gradually reduce the amount of flotation by removing 1 pad at a time from the front or back or both. You can control if they are leaning too far forward or back by adjusting the number of pads. By removing 1 or 2 pads at a time, you can reduce the amount of flotation gradually, so your child can get used to less help and having to do more to stay afloat and learn to swim until eventually swimming on their own. Other devices go from 100% flotation to 0- where this goes 100% to 90% to 80% and so on down to an Independent Swimmer!!!!

I run a busy rental outfit. Our guests come in all shapes and sizes. The Outfitter Universal is our go to pfd. It fits pretty much all adults the big ones down to the 125 pounders. The 6 adjustable straps are long enabling us to fit the bigger guests and they cinch down to smaller chests( 125 pound). One of the great uses of the 6 adjustable straps is our guest bodies often are not the athletic types. Some are big up top, some big in the middle and some are big down lower. The 6 straps allow proper fit no matter where the space is needed. Another plus to the Outfitter Universal is it's easy to get the paddler some ventilation on hot days. The jacket rides well on the body allowing for day long comfortable paddling. We can buy any pfd and continue to use 150 of the Outfitter Universal. Hope you check them out. [ I ’ ve used this little stick of dynamited now a real life rescue on the Arkansas in high water where I needed to get to my bag fast. This should not however be your only throw line if you ’ re running a larger craft, but makes a great supplement to a longer, more robust line. On thing I would add is that there is ample belt length. To much for most people and you will want to cut off the excess( hot knife) Your local climbing shop should do this for you for free if they ’ re cool. Maybe pick up a dedicated “ z- drag ” line while you ’ re there. I recommend static line as the rope in your throw bag is dynamic and will lose some of its stretch( which you want when it ’s time to go fishing for your buddies) if you use it for unpinning a “ wrapped ” boat. The main negative thing is that the position of the safety release on the belt is not adjustable and will be in an awkward( and maybe hard to get to) if you choose to ware this puppy “ appendix carry ” which I do when paddling a ducky. As with most things, this can be overcome with practice. In closing, get proper instruction, make practicing rescue skills a regular part of your time on the water. The `` BayDog '' Monterey Bay life vest is very well made with extra stiching at all of the strap and clip points, adjustable straps make custom fitting a breeze.
