As I was out shoveling, I discovered the designer winter coat I bought from a big department store was NOT waterproof. Unfortunately, I weigh 274, so finding a coat is n't easy. After researching, I decided to try this one even though it is over$ 300. It fits great( it is n't loose, but it is comfortable and I can sit with it zipped)! It also is not puffy, so there is no added bulk. The sleeves are nice in that they are not too short and I can tighten them at the wrist with the Velcro. I also love the chest pocket-- I put my phone in there and can listen to a podcast as I walk my dog. Well worth the money!

This jacket is so comfortable and warm. I bought it for skiing and I love it. The material is soft. I like how it zips up high to keep my neck warm while still leaving room to wear a neck gaiter. I also love the inside sleeves that fit over my thumbs. They fit great under my mittens and provided extra warmth. I found my usual size a bit small, but the next size up fit perfectly. I 'm 5' 2 100lbs and usually wear an XS and this jacket fits me well with extra room for layering. I love the Turtle Dove color as it is a creamy/vanilla shade that pairs well with any snow pant color. Amazing features- snow skirt, thumb cut outs, water proof and wind proof, zippers up to my chin, well insulated, and, multiple pockets. This jacket is one of the best quality ski jackets on the market now. I would say it's comparable to Helly Hansen's Alphelia jacket in terms of fit and features but for a lower price point. It even has a similar fit to the Arc'teryx jackets if you cinch the waistline in and tuck it. You can get away with wearing no layers underneath this jacket in 30F weather. I 've already gotten many compliments and will be wearing this to back to back ski trips in Vermont and Colorado! I agree with other reviews that a snow helmet can not fit underneath the hood, but that is NOT a con for me as wearing a hood while skiing usually obstructs my view anyway.

I 'm not into the look of puffer jackets, but needed a warm goose down and landed on this design which I like better than the traditional design. The fit is great, not too loose not too tight. But, I debated keeping it for a while. I will be using this while speed skating on the outdoor oval in Lake Placid. However, it's been very cold here in North Texas and I 've been ice skating a lot, where the rinks are kept extremely cold. This jacket is like wearing a hug. It is super cozy warm. Seems to be shedding a few feathers, but not too much concern at this point. The BEST part about this is it does not hold odors like polyester. I can wear this jacket for weeks without concern. Similar Patagonia jackets you wear once and they are basically ruined. Personally, I think the `` light '' version is better for technical wear, while the `` regular '' is cuter and more fashion- forward.

I am an adventure supervisor at a therapeutic boarding school in Northwest Montana, and I use this jacket to lead hiking, biking, and climbing trips in cool temperatures. I also took this jacket camping with me in Glacier National Park when the temperatures got down into the teens, so I was able to compare its warmth to some of my other jackets. Although it loses some of its warmth without a hood, it kept me surprisingly warm in those low temps. Overall, however, I found that the biggest positive to this jacket is the durable material! The stretchdown feels more resistant to nicks and tearing, and I can see this jacket lasting a long time. It's also a plus for me that the down is RDS certified-- yay for animal welfare! I would not bring this as my only puffy jacket when backpacking because I would need the extra warmth that a hood brings. However, this layer would be really great for climbing in moderately cool temperatures because of how durable the material would be on the rock, or as a bonus layer to stuff in a pack for a little extra warmth. I gave this jacket four stars, mostly because of the fit. I am 5' 5 '', 120lbs, and I ordered a small because I normally like to layer underneath my puffy jackets. However, a small is too big on me even with layers underneath, and it also has a boxy fit around the shoulders. I would order an XS next time for sure!

This is a beautiful and well designed layer, but I can not handle the chest zip pocket.( other athletic brands have been putting these on everything this year too). Love the side zip pockets for hands or items one needs to carry, the fabric is stretchy and really nice. Great length, it can stretch to cover you bum or sit higher and still look great. well designed as usually Salomon! I have no doubt it would perform fantastically. I still gave it 5 stars, even though I returned it, I must be alone in hating the chest pockets.

This is my go to layer for hiking and for kayak camping trips, and general traveling when you need a warm but not ultrawarm lightweight layer. I have used it under an ultralight down jacket kayak camping in Arizona in the winter and have been quite comfortable. I have used it for hiking in the high country in the shoulder seasons when it is cold to cool in the AM. It is amazing how warm it keeps you when active. It is not a heavy warm layer if sitting out in the cold but it is perfect for my uses! I need to buy another one!!

[ What a fabulous coat! It's really warm and you can remove the inner coat and presto- a great option when you need less warmth but crave comfort and style. I 'm so in love with this purchase. My Northface puffy coat finally needed replacing- this checked all the boxes!!
