I bought this shoe because I had previously used the FJ Contour Jogger golf shoe that had the same sole. The Contour casual has the same benefit of the excellent gripping sole( without spikes) and also the ability to go car to pro shop( not wearing out golf cleats). The leather on this shoe is amazing and if you 've owned FJ before, you know to buy something when it's available because there's always the poss of things changing in future years with sytle etc. The functionality of this shoe is A++, the quality is A++, the durability is A++. I can not speak for waterproof quality as I have not worn the shoe in wet conditions, but FJ has always warrantied thier products well and so I think that will be A+ as well.

These are a great slip- on shoe. No its not as easy due to the SOFT COMFORTABLE top of the heal, better than the harder lip on Sketchers. The prior versions had this strange intense curve in the toe portion( perhaps that was designed to repel water during steps?) compared to an older model that is no longer available. Having previously owned a pair of Timberland SmartWool slip- ons that were wonderful to wear, I gave the Mt. Maddsen slip- ons a try. They did not disappoint. The leather uppers softened and molded themselves to fit my foot so they have become my preferred shoe for working in the yard as well as hiking. They shed water well and the thick soles keep my foot out of puddles in the rain. After 2 years of hard use( I write this in 2024) the soles are worn, but no separation at all from the leather uppers. Very well made.( This is for the model A6660 made in Vietnam)

A lot of the comments say it ’s hard to get the shoe on, so much so they have the shoe a low rating …I ’ m not even sure what that means. They ’ re not loose slip ons like crocs, they require you to like put in a little effort to get them on but I got them on without untying the original ties. The heel is sturdy enough that it didn ’ t collapse under my own heel when I slid it in, which is nice. The first like 10- 15 steps squeaked a little but it very quickly went away.

I had to do that with this pair of shoes as well. I like how well I can walk all day in these shoes. Usually I buy hard toe shoes, but I am experimenting with the bumper toe. I already slammed my toes into a cart wheel, the bumper toe protected my toes, no pain. I am a nurse, moving fast, making turns. These shoes stay on and perform very well.

The shoes are well made and I can already tell they will be very durable in a greasy, dirty environment.( Transmission mechanic). The oil resistant does have a more open tread pattern so they wo n't collect the oil and dirt and cake up with it. However, these are not what I would call comfortable. The leather on the upper is very stiff and hard on your feet, the insoles are kind of hard. They are getting better as I break them in, but still not great. I 'm not sure I would buy a second pair after this one.

[ The previous sole on the Oxford was prone to delamination and posed a tripping hazard in certain situations. This new, one piece sole is beyond great. It has terrific traction and grip on all surfaces. The new sole among with the comfort we ’ ve come to love with this shoe make it the best choice for someone who is on their feet all day.

My Blacksmiths are about 3 years old. I broke them in by walking 5. 8 miles afterwork on the boardwalk in Ocean City in the dead of winter, my walking club would laugh at me, and I ’ d be a liar if I said it wasn ’ t tough.. It was the best break I ’ ve ever pulled off, I wear ‘ em with no socks all the time these bad boys are like gloves on my feet.. The only treatment I ever do is some Hubbards Shoe Grease if I remember, I just smear it all over the seams, just in case… I was stomping around in puddles just the other day thinking about what a great product RedWing makes, I have boots from the other ‘ big ’ brands, my# 8 Last Blacksmiths are my goto, if I can ’ t wear FlipFlops, Love ‘ em, they are Super Dope!

I have had my Blacksmiths for about 9 months now a minimal break end phase is well over. I decided to give my boots a boost in flavor by adding Rose Anvil Kilties. I was able to find every color assortment that RW offers in Rose Anvil's extensive selection of Kilties. The Kilties gave my boots a bit more flavor than expected.

I expected a break- in period but these blacksmiths were comfortable out of the box. Soft but supportive and the fit was perfect for me. No chafing, roomy but not loose. The traction was good even in wet weather. And they are fine to wear even during hot and humid days where I live. Chose the copper rough and tough because I think the look is so classic and understated. Love the versatility as well. Can use them with just about every pair of pants and( even shorts) in my closet. I wear them almost everyday and feel they ’ ll stand up to all the walking I do. Well worth the price and looking forward to picking up more Red Wing boots down the line.

Just bought these and very comfortable out of the box. Went up a little from my usual size in Red Wing( 10. 5) to 11. If these were suede, definitely would have stayed with 10. 5. Nice fit and finish. The toe looks more bulbous in photos than in person.
