She also likes the chin strap because she's always worried about her hats blowing off on the boat. I like that it covers her neck and shoulders so it keeps more of her protected from the Florida sun. I 've washed it a few times in the machine on gentle cycle then hung to dry and it washes just fine. [ The hat seems to fit well as I do have a relatively large head. It blocks sun well. Given I live in Florida, I have not been able to test in the rain yet. I read conflicting reviews on how waterproof it is. I plan to use for long hime in Portugal later this month. If I encounter torrential downpours, I will also have a waterproof hood to wear over top. I think the color I purchased is fine for what I need.
