[ This rope was great, although due to a misplaced stopper knot my rope retrieval system snagged and we did n't have time to re- climb the route. If anyone sees an orange rope hanging from the southern chute of Mt Winchell you 're welcome to take it, just do n't climb on it! Would buy again.

[ Bought this rope for glacier travel and potentially rappelling into crevasses. Climbed Mount Baker this past weekend with a 5 person team using it and worked like a charm. Rope sat overnight on some wet snow and felt as dry the next morning as when we put it down. Rope also got stepped on a few times with crampons with 0 damage to the sheath which was nice. [ I ’ ve taken this rope out a couple times now, holds up well for canyoneering. Dry treatment seems great, rope isn ’ t too heavy and easy to manage.

5 Skyphex
[ This Is my 1- year review on this rope. I bought this rope originally as a lighter rope for hiking out to remote caves but it soon after took place over my other ropes and goes with me to every single cave I rap into. After thousands of feet of ascending and rappelling on it, there is little to no wear on the sheath and there are no bumps or wear on the internal parts from what I can tell. I 'd trust this rope to get me out of any situation and while the 8. 5 mm size may deter some, I have had absolutely zero problems with this rope being to slick on the rappel or not giving enough grab on the ascent.

I purchased this item for making a quad anchor in multipitch and it did n't disappoint. ... Awesome cordelette for quad anchors in multipitch ... Should be ideal for belay stations and rap anchors in a bail

5 Tim777
I bought this about a month ago to use for setting up anchors on trad climbs and for top rope. I had never used Cordelette before, however, I find it extremely easy to equalize with 3 or 4 points. I was a little nervous when I first saw how small this product was, but after setting anchors and climbing on them I am really impressed with it. I would and have already trusted my life to this product. A+.

5 Captainhack
[ This rope is so small compact and strong perfect for anchors it's crazy how small and strong it is but do n't under estimate its strength and make sure you tie proper knots since this is a technical cord

5 outdoortim
[ I bought this rope to use as a cordelette for building anchors at the top of trad climbs. It works really well and has excellent strength rating. I found the rope a little bit stiff when I first got it but it softened up with some usage. BTW I turned this rope into a cordelette by tying the ends together in a double fisherman's. Highly recommend. I would never lead a climb without a rope like this to string up in emergency scenarios.

5 Victor climber
[ Awesome purchase! I purchased this item for making a quad anchor in multipitch and it did n't disappoint. Length is good enough, strength is strong, thickness is great, and the most important part its super light. I am very happy for this purchase

5 snowryder
[ Purchased this a few weeks ago ahead of a trip to Zion. Have taken it out three times and have about 15 rappels on it- mostly double rope, but not all. I have used ATC, ATS, and Hyrobot rappel devices without issue. Have used hollow block and 5mm nylon auto blocks as well. Really like its light weight. I take care to not beat up on my ropes so I ca n't easily confirm how much more durable it is compared to something like Sterling's HTP rope, but it seems to be holding up fine after three outings. I have no buyer's remorse on spending a few extra dollars.

5 mrjazzitup
[ Two day shipment was super fast. Came in coiled up and it took a while to get it untangled. Probably need to run it once to completely get rid of kinks and twists. Other than that, rope performed flawlessly running through the canyons in SoCal.

5 jknk
[ This stuff is SO light( comparable to many of the 8mm!). Since none of the components absorb water, it stays light( my 200' of this feels lighter than my 9. 5mm 60' of nylon- core after a good soaking). If I bring beginners to canyons, this is what I want them on: easy to hold( does rap fast for a 9mm), and the technora sheath makes a big difference in durability. Sandstone canyons, no edge pro( traveling light here...) 200' rappel, eight people, and some really bad edge transitions, with only a bit of light fuzzing( I was concerned the entire sheath would be gone by the fourth person). Also great for use in harsh city environments( 90 degree concrete ledges are the ultimate test). Tech is extremely hard to cut, pretty hard to abrade, and impossible to burn( had someone throw two feet of this into a fire, and we watched the core melt out, but the sheath was completely fine. Not saying it's a good idea, but at the strength of Technora, I 'd rap that). If you 're a canyoneer, caver, or urbexer, looking for something light and durable, this is my favorite.

5 Cream
[ Great canyoneering rope. Resistant to abrasion, sheds water well, packs down nice and is n't to heavy. I use this rope for commercial guiding and it holds up really well.

5 MtnSam
[ The Sterling Rope C- IV 9mm Rope is a fantastic rope for canyoneering. It's supple yet rugged and durable, lightweight, and stacks in a bag easily. Best used for dry canyons but can also be used in water.

5 Valdet
Nice length, thickness and overall a great rope! Good middle mark.

5 Sami
[ This is the best rope I have used for sport climbing thus far. For my upcoming climbing trip to Spain, I was looking for a new rope that would have minimal drag and high durability while also being conducive to light handling( both for clipping and belaying) and soft catches; this rope meets all of those requirements. As soon as you take it out of the package, you can use it immediately without needing to flake it. The rope is lightweight, which makes it easy to clip, and dirt does not adhere to it easily due to the smooth sheath. At 9. 5mm, this rope handles much more nicely than thicker ropes when using a grigri. The diameter is perfect and makes the rope lighter without sacrificing safety; I tried it on rock with some really sharp flakes and edges in NH, and never felt unsafe. Falling on it felt great as well. As an additional bonus, the orange color is striking and stands out on the wall.

5 A fish
[ This big rope is very beautiful, the perfect weight, it is my perfect protection in the climbing process, there is a certain amount of stretch, in use is very safe

5 Chainsaw
[ I just purchased this rope for the second time. It is light, easy to clip, feeds nicely. For not being bi- pattern, the middle mark stays visible for a suprisingly long time.

5 Weston
[ You could n't pay me to switch ropes. This is one beautiful, high- quality rope that leaves all the climbers that have seen it in awe. I bought this rope because it was one of the highest recommended ropes on the internet. I have been out at the New River Gorge in West Virginia with it and it performed amazing. It is a 9. 5mm so it fits perfectly within the three star rating for the GriGri 2 and the GriGri+. This rope feeds SMOOTH. I use the GriGri+ and man, I have had so many people comment about how great the rope feeds through the belay devices. It gives the perfect amount of smooth without sacrificing safety. I gave the 4 stars on durability because I have n't had the rope for long so I just do n't know it's durability. It also is a bit smaller so naturally there will be more wear, quicker on the rope. I will say there is a little bit of a marketing error. The gold rope color is definitely gold with black dots within it. It's NOT brown/black with some gold in it. I 've included a picture of me climbing with it where you can actively see that the color, even from afar.

[ Just got back from the gunks, first trip with this rope. It ’s great! Don ’ t think I ’ ve ever had a smoother rapp. And I love the weird color scheme that comes from using leftover material from making other ropes.

5 Schoendigger
[ In the month I ’ ve had this rope I have never had an issue with pigtails! It ’s also super easy to coil and flake too! I will definitely be buying this in different lengths!

5 cocobeanclimber
[ I purchased this rope a few months ago. I love the diameter, slim but not flimsy. I bought a 70m to suffice on multi pitch routes and so far I ’ m nothing but impressed. Catches whips like a dream, not too much stretch. Highly recommend! Wouldn ’ t recommend if you ’ re a sucker for colors, mine kinda looks like vomit, but I figure it ’ ll get dirty and nasty eventually anyway.

5 Nico1
[ Despite the fact that this rope is constructed of recycled ropes, it is a truly solid dynamic climbing rope, but still easy to manipulate/flake. The color scheme is awesome( to me, may not be to someone who likes more uniform color), and the price is right.

5 Shaun
[ Only climbed a couple times on it, but it's smooth and looks great so far. I can add more after I 've used it longer, but I 'm still writing because of the minimum character requirement.

5 Boulderingisntclimbing
[ Love this rope. It ’s been my go to for a couple of years now. It stands my family ’s constant top roping and the choss we drag it through. My only complaint is that dirt gets smeared into it pretty badly and it ’s on the heavier side.

[ Bought it to be used as a backup during rappel using the hitch pictured. Accidentally bought the 10mm instead of the 8mm. Tested it out today and it still works on my 9. 8mm rope, but just barely. If your rope is thinner than that, go with the 8mm instead of the 10. I could not get it to hold in a traditional prusik however.

5 JHRafter
[ Great Rope, i bought this but have not had time to use it before writing this review. This should be a great rope and i am happy i bought it.

5 TK13
[ Got this rope specifically for ice climbing in Lake City. It worked out perfectly! Without it it would have been a challenge to get the master point over the edge. The rope was easy to tie and untie knots in and was a good width to handle. I 'd highly recommend this rope.

5 Rock jock
[ This rope is great for rappelling. It runs threw belay devices like a Grgi and atc well also, ties knots well. Its a bit stiff but I like that in a static rope.

[ I bought this last month and used it for some multi pitch. The rope is super smooth and the dry coat is durable. i 'm looking forward to taking it out on the glacier soon because it's also pretty light!!

5 FB123
[ This rope is excellent for alpine pursuits with long approaches. Lightweight yet reliable for ice and rock, it has a silky touch for smooth belays and fast rappels. Useful middle mark and water treatment make this rope perfect for all- season in the Rockies, the Cascades, or the Andes.

5 Bill
[ This rope has a dry cover treatment so it's slick enough to keep the grit of Smith Rock out of it, and just small enough to belay from above with a Reverso comfortably. I 'm pretty happy with the handling and feel of the rope so far and the weight per meter is without question amazing. My only question is in regards to durability when rapping over sharp edges, but with the Unicore peace of mind that concern is much less so than other ropes I 've used.

5 Phil

5 Kronos
[ I bought this for rapping on multi pitch read lines whenever clean pulls are available. Lighter than a second rope but the 8mm is heavy enough not to snag or kink as much as some of the 6mm or 7mm taglines out there. Sterling ropes are always well made and this seems to handle nice and isn ’ t too heavy. At 8mm you can do some hauling if need be too. If weight is an issue check out the 7mm tagline from Sterling.

5 Ozark Climber
I bought this rope about a month ago. Previously I had a 10. 1 60M. After switching to to a 9. 2 I 'll never go back. This rope feeds like butter through the grigri 2, it packs up small, and weights nothing in my pack. I also have a friend that used this rope in 24HHH last year, and it held up like a champ. I would recommend this rope to anyone.

5 Tbonez
[ This rope rocks... 30 meters is just perfect for some short alpine cragging. So far so good!

5 Jason
[ I got this rope in grey for ice climbing and general mountaineering and love it! I bought the 70 meter and overall it's a little smaller and lighter than my other 60 meter ropes just because of its small diameter

5 Traveler
[ I purchased the Petzl Volta rope for general mountaineering and have been very happy with the performance. The sheath has a smooth surface that is easy to handle and easy on the hands. The supple construction makes knotting easy it feeds through my GriGri beautifully. At 9. 2mm it is not too big and not too small for my equipment and needs.

5 Kuniyoshi
Love this rope to multipitch in groups of three. It's so light( makes long approaches so much better) and the sheath has a surprisingly long wear life for its size. Handling is fantastic. I would n't use it on hangdog days, but for sending or just cruising pitches it's great. I love that it's triple certified: I use it as a half rope or single.

The Link is the perfect safety device for building up an anchor for a top rope climb, or taking down the anchor when we 're finished with a sport

See all reviews

5 SamS
The best gear in my opinion is simple, easy- to- use, and lightweight-- that is exactly why I love the Link Personal Anchor System from BD. The Link is the perfect safety device for building up an anchor for a top rope climb, or taking down the anchor when we 're finished with a sport route. I pair the Link with two Positron Screwgate Carabiners, which easily fit in the chains on most climbing routes. This system is lightweight and easy to manage on any climb.

5 SamRoot
Super solid piece of gear. A bit spendy, but pick it up and you wo n't be disappointed.

5 Matt
I like this better than Metolious' version for ice and alpine climbing. The material is more supple. I like Metolious' longer version for rock climbing. If you are not extending your belay device on rappel you should. Using this it is easy to extend and backup your rappel as well as to test the system before you unclip from the anchor. It is simply a better way. It is also nice to always have a way to go in direct quickly for both cleaning anchors and multi- pitch climbing.

5 Ethan G
I bought this a couple of years ago and have been using it with great success. Simple design does n't get in your way when climbing or when anchoring or cleaning. Different lengths are a huge help for cleaning. Light enough that you do n't notice it until you need it. Great for cleaning on single pitch and the few multi- pitch routes done. I 'm just now getting a new one because I took a slight( 1') fall on it( I know I know) with no visible damage but just it's not worth the risk.

5 Rojmahal
I love it. Attach it between both tie- in loops on every climb outside. I may not use it on every climb, but I do use it every day climbing. It must be part of your gear. So many ways to utilize this piece of kit. Experiment and love it.

Got this rope at the beginning of this month and have taken it out twice so far. Definitely a great rope to teach on and for new lead belayers since it never tangles! Love it!!! Also makes a great bed, haha!

[ I bought this rope about 7 years ago and am getting ready to retire it. It's been a great rope. It handles well and works great for top roping and sport( I 've taken it on trad climbs too, but just been the follower). It's a little thicker than lots of ropes out there now, but great for durability and an excellent beginner rope. It was stiff at first but after a few falls and uses it's great. This rope is a great price point compared with others. Petzl has great products. I 'd highly recommend this rope to anyone looking to get into climbing outside that needs a workhorse for all different kinds of climbing. It works with ATC and Grigri.

Versatile and convenient ... The longer length means I have to make slightly more wraps as an autoblock on my leg loop to prevent it from hitting my rappel device but this might be the perfect motivation to extend my rappel device like I should have been doing

[ I wanted to upgrade/replace my 6mm cord which was tied in a loop with a double fisherman. I use the cord mainly to autoblock rappels, occasionally as a prussik. I 'm also not too ashamed to admit that I occasionally use it as a step on sport routes to cheat through a move. I wanted something a little longer for klemheist hitches, less bulky( sewn vs tied) and stronger. This was perfect. I got the longer length so that I would have plenty to wrap around for more secure friction hitches and to make sure I could continue to step into it to cheat through sections of climbs. The increased strength gives me more options for the material if needed. The longer length means I have to make slightly more wraps as an autoblock on my leg loop to prevent it from hitting my rappel device but this might be the perfect motivation to extend my rappel device like I should have been doing anyways. Regardless, without rappel extension, it still allows a pretty smooth movement with the extra wraps. And the flat material makes the klemheist much nicer.

[ Works like a charm! It ’s very durable and light. Fits easily on your harness. 10/10 would recommend to others. I use it as a third hand while rappelling

[ I 've used the rope only once but I think I 'm really going to like it. No kinks at all, handled beautifully. A little slick like a snake so it had a tendency to slither away if there was any slope at all when stacking.( Sorry for the alliteration). The color is very nice and half way point is clearly and boldly marked.

[ There's very few bicolor thin 60m ropes, but this is one of them! We have the older 70m Nano when it was 9. 0mm, we 're excited to try this 60m, have n't used it yet but just wanted to post a review confirming that the 60m Orange one IS bicolor! I was a little concerned ordering since they only had a picture of the 70m, but here's a photo verifying the 60m is as- expected. And I love the bright orange color!

Frequently Asked Questions For Anchor Ropes

Anchor ropes are typically made from durable materials such as nylon, polyester, or polypropylene. These materials offer excellent strength and resistance to abrasion, making them suitable for various marine environments. The choice of material can affect the rope's flexibility, buoyancy, and overall performance.

When selecting an anchor rope, consider the length, diameter, and breaking strength required for your specific application. It's also important to think about the type of water conditions you'll be facing, as well as the weight of your boat or equipment. Additionally, look for features such as resistance to UV rays and moisture, which can enhance durability.

The appropriate length of anchor rope generally depends on the depth of the water and the type of anchoring method you plan to use. A common guideline is to use a rope length that is at least 5 to 7 times the depth of the water. This ensures that the anchor can hold securely and provides enough scope for effective anchoring.

Twisted anchor ropes are made by twisting multiple strands together, which can provide good strength and flexibility but may be more prone to kinking. Braided ropes, on the other hand, are woven together, offering greater resistance to abrasion and a smoother surface. The choice between twisted and braided depends on your specific needs, such as ease of handling and durability.

Yes, anchor ropes can be versatile and used for various applications beyond boating. They are often utilized in camping, construction, and outdoor activities for securing items, creating shelters, or even in rescue operations. The strength and durability of anchor ropes make them suitable for a wide range of tasks.

To maintain anchor ropes, it's important to regularly inspect them for signs of wear, fraying, or damage. Rinsing the rope with fresh water after use in saltwater can help prevent deterioration from salt and debris. Proper storage in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight can also extend the lifespan of the rope.
