[ I use it to go watch the The Annual Perseid Meteor Shower on a top of a small mountain. The trek was around 5km to go and near 600m high. We packed a 3 person tent, slipping bag, under mat, water, munchies, small burner, small stove fuel, coffee, spare clothes, Swiss Army knife, compass, headlamp and a beer. The bag hold everything in place, was well balanced and let my back breath compare to a normal backpack. The only thing I have not figured out yet was how to easily access the water bottle compartment. I needed my wife help to get it.

The first time putting this one on, fully loaded, for a 5 day backpacking trip, I realized what a game- changer it was. Originally I was concerned going down in size by 5L, but all the pockets and stash points make up for it. It packs much better than my previous pack and the weight is distributed better and sits on my hips more comfortably. Definitely recommend!

Just got this pack as a replacement for my very old and trusted Arial 75. Despite being a guy I got the women's as my last one was a women's and it fit me so well. I am 5' 7 '' '' and 155#. Super comfortable and easy to adjust. I have just used it so far for day backcountry skiing. It easily synched down to a small size and was narrow with no wobble for skiing in the trees. Lots of pockets, I especially like the double pockets in the lid for sorting small stuff.

Great overall ride and quality. Bought for the Kalalau trail hike in Kuaui, held everything we needed and has great organization. The straps and suspension system worked well and it distributed the weight evenly. This is a great pack for entry level backpackers or more advanced backpackers, big enough to carry all comfort items you would want for a 2- 3 day trip. Hip pads were big enough for cell phones and other items which was handy.

The Kalmia offered great space/ volume per weight, and fit me so well! The adjustable backplate offered needed personalization for fit, and the padding protected me from hotspots without being bulky. The rotating shoulder straps made a difference; I could feel the pack moving with me, instead of against me. The Kalmia 50 is my new go to pack! While this pack offers some personalization, it is n't the pack for everyone. I highly recommend trying the pack on before purchasing, and walking around a bit with some weight added to see how she rides. [ I completed the Tour Du Mont Blanc with the pack, loaded out at 43LBS with Gregory's 3D hydro 2L reservoir. This pack is SO COMFORTABLE, well vented and has just the right access. The water bottle holder is great. No taking off the pack to get your 0. 5L Nalgene. Good amount of external storage. On a long hike like the TMB where you are on the trail for 6- 7 hours every day, comfort is king and this pack delivered. A couple minor complaints: No Rain Fly. For the price point, others provide it, but Gregory's standard rain fly fit perfect and did the job on the one day it was required. The zippers on the hipbelt pockets are a little frustrating to operate one- handed. I 'm a larger, sweaty guy that needed a trampoline style pack for good ventilation on hot summer days. This pack delivered. I just ca n't recommend it enough.

I got this pack about 3 weeks ago and I have tested it out several times. It is a very simple and easy- to- use pack with great features and comfort. It is easy to adjust the torso length and various straps, and all of the storage compartments work well. If you are looking for something to keep you comfortable and happy on the trail this is the way to go! Definitely for longer trips where you would need a BV 500 or more gear. In the last month, this pack has been used in the Sierra's, Humbolt- Toiyabe national forest in Nevada, and Pine Valley in Utah on 2+ night backpacking trips. I have never been disappointed by anything I have used from Gregory, and this bag has been a solid piece of gear. 10/10 would recommend!

This is a great pack. I am a big guy( 6 ’ 2 ”, 275) so I do wish I would have gone with the Stout 70 plus, but it is still a great pack. Sits on the back well with plenty of adjustments available. Took some time to get dialed in, but once I did, it was very comfortable.

This is one of Gregory's basic packs, essentially a Baltoro with fewer bells and whistles. I needed a 70 liter pack for a 12 day Philmont Trek, and it survived 2 years of shakedown hikes, and 2 more years of `` regular '' weekend camping use. Works well, and great bang for the buck if you are patient and watch for sales.

Bought this pack for my husband for our upcoming first backpacking trip, because he is a big dude and the options for him were limited. [ The new updated Osprey Rook 65 Performs outstanding. It caries the load very well. While I used it on a winter day hike with only 25 lbs in it I feel it will comfortably carry about 35- 40 lbs. The new Rook series packs 50 and 65 liter are well worth the price they retail for. If you are a well seasoned hiker or a beginner you ca n't go wrong with the Osprey Rook. I imagine the Women's Renn will preform as well.

I really love this pack. It's the second one I 've used as I 've only been backpacking for about 2 years. It is the perfect size to accommodate all of the things I need, but it's not so large that I over- pack. I 've used it on weekend trips on the PCT, a 5- day trip in the Sierras and on a 4- day Rim- to- Rim Grand Canyon hike. I could fit a small Bear Cannister in the pack and my tent was on the outside of the pack for the 5- day trip. I am more of a minimalist when it comes to what I put in my pack, so some people might need a larger pack for longer hikes. Sometimes the chest strap feels too high, so I would like a lower option for that, but I am 5' 4 '' '', so that might not be a problem for someone who is taller. I 've used the bladder reservoir as well and it works great. I have n't used it in the rain yet, but I do n't forsee any problems. When the pack is heavier( 30 lbs), I do feel soreness on my hips, but when I can keep it lighter( last trip 24 lbs) I have no soreness from using this pack. I also like that there are n't a lot of compartments so I 'm only looking in a few places if I do n't remember where I put something.

I bought this for my first mountaineering excursion. A nearly 9000 foot elevation in Patagonia of Cerro Creston. Held my crampons and ice axe perfectly during the 1 hr+ hike to the base of the mountain and super comfortable to wear. Love the attached gear loops around the waist band. 6/22: had the Sirrus 24 for years. liked it. Compression- fratured lumbar region early spring. Feared hiking days over. stubborn but realistic: Had to carry pack light and high. Wore same clothes daily, hat, pricey poles. Tied jacket around waist, saved pack space for tent, food, water, rain gear, navigation, first aid, sleeping bag n cooking gear. There was other stuff inside bag, but I forget. Was able to carry light even with food. This pack solved my weight fears: helped me keep all under weight, not stressing back. Wore a lot; usually kept inside pack. Used water bladder. Was able to muster the entire CT in 2022. Cons: not able to reach back and grasp water bottles, pockets on belt too small and plastic zippers ceased in cold. Otherwise; really liked.

As an ultralight Backpacker, I leave my honest review here. First, I have to say that I was excited when I got this backpack; the fabrics and the implementation are outstanding excellent job Black Diamond. The fast backpack idea with those extra shoulder straps makes this backpack ideal. Not only is this one waterproof or almost, but it is merely one of the best backpacks I ever owned. Believe it or not, I have tried several UL backpacks in my career. The only downside I see is that the shoulder pocket with the zipper is too tiny to hold a standard- sized cell phone comfortably. If I had a bigger one, I could guarantee it would never fit inside.

I have n't used this pack but it looks great, with excellent materials, pockets and overall construction. It also seems to tick most boxes for ultra runners who may be doing multi- day events requiring a lot of mandatory gear. Some runners may question the design choice of having only one side of the vest strap capable of carrying a 500ml soft flask. Perhaps this is the preferred option for fastpacking but having capacity for two soft flasks in addition to two zippered pockets on either side like the BD Distance 15 pack would be ideal, at least for ultra runners.

I love osprey products and unfortunately found that most of their products do not fit XS torsos. However. The EJA is the exception. It fits through the shoulders and leaves plenty of room for tightening the hip belt. It ’s like wearing a hug. I did 3 10+mile days with this pack( 48l) and it was just the right size for my and my dog ’s needs. The ONLY complaint I have is that the shoulder padding could use reinforcements. I found the material shredding my shirt and leaving friction burns on my collarbones after day 2. I ended up shoving my extra sun shirt under the straps to widen the coverage on my shoulders. I could probably wear thicker shirts for winter trips, but summertime screams for tank tops and breathable materials that just didn ’ t do enough for comfort on that long of a trip. I will be using this pack again, but definitely looking into mods for the shoulder strap padding

The hip belt is comfortable. My only issue is with the shoulder straps. Over many hours on the trail, I notice that the straps do not sit completely comfortably around the front of my shoulders. That said, this is still my favorite pack out there!

My torso is 17 '' so I purchased the S/M size expecting it to be on the shortest setting. I found I needed to have it just under the longest setting to fit me correctly with the middle of the hip belt on my iliac crest. I think you might be able to squeeze into this pack if your torso is 19 '' maximum. Easily the most comfortable pack I have tried on, very happy with my purchase.

I 've had this pack for 4+ years now. I take it on a couple backpacking trips a year on average and some day hikes where I 'm carrying more than normal. It's always fit everything I need. I 've carried a large tandem packraft and paddles with it( alpacka forager). I 've hiked 30 miles of the Kesugi Ridge Trail with it. The most notable use I think was for a caribou hunt I did a couple years ago on the Denali Highway. I packed out a cow caribou including all meat and 4 quarters bone in and the hide with my other knives and day pack type gear 5 miles down a mountain side and back to the parking lot via the trail. Roughly 100lbs. No buckles broke or came undone under tension, no rips, straps worked well to keep the load secure and close to my body. It only creaked and groaned a bit under that load, but otherwise performed well especially for not being a hunting pack. I would buy again!

I used it for backcountry skiing the fit and how it proformed when skinning or skiing excellent. Its only top accessible, and a lack of easy acces pocket for avalanche equipment. Note I knew it was n't a dedicated ski pack wanted something larger then what was available. Was able to comfortably carry and ski with heavier loads. I enjoyed 50 days of skiing something like 35 of them were backcountry here in Alaska. Skiing adventures from Hatcher pass, with lots of local runs near Anchorage, and some trips to Turnagain pass.

[ I had a new Atmos 50L pack and started using it for winter hiking the NH 4K foot mts. It was too big for me as I had the wrong size and not great for winter hiking. The mutant works very well. I have hiked two mts with it so far, with full traction mounted to outside ~28lbs. Attaching snow shoes, crampons and micro spikes works well with all the external attachment straps. The shallow side pockets help hold my hiking poles when needed. The large top is easy to get into, a is the main compartment. I can easily put layers under the top to hold during a layer break. The pack is comfortable and handles very well with the 28lbs. I like the flat back, it is warmer than a mesh and doesn ’ t trap snow. My only complain is the shoulder straps are narrow and do not come down far, which limits what I can attach ti them. My snack bottle works but even in lowest loop is up high. And the loops are small. The front straps are a bit thin, but work fine for holding a crampon bag or even the snow shoes I was concerned that the lower padding on hips and waist would not be as comfortable as the atmos. But not so, I don ’ t even notice it, the the mutant is much easier to get into and out off.

I 've had this pack since 2006. It's been on many adventures with me, from backpacking in Canyonlands to training hikes in Teluride to travel through Taiwan. For several years, I used this bag for grocery shopping and going to the laundry mat, when it was often 70 pounds. It's so comfortable that even fully loaded, I can easily dance while wearing it. This pack has survived bear attacks, rain storms, deserts, baggage handlers, and having its capacity tested endlessly. After 15 years, I 've noticed the first sign of wear- a small tear in a seam. I 'm happy with the longevity of the product, and I 'm heartened that I can send it to Osprey for a professional- level repair for just the cost of one- way shipping. ` I am a 50 year old occasional hiker who has n't had a new pack since college. Just spent 3 days hiking in the Catskills with this pack on my back for 7- 8 hours a day and I love it. I 've used this to train with 35lb water sack on multiple day hikes and 2 day summit trip to Mt. Rainier. This pack can hold more weight, and highly adjustable. I 'm 5' 1 '' '', 103lb very petite person, and I was able to have the torso adjusted to the shortest and the hip straps tight all the way to fit my short torso well. The floating divisor is easier and allows for more flexible storage, which I loved. I was able to fit a heavy duty sleeping bag and stuff the small empty areas with my snacks and dry socks, day gloves. Also for the panel cord loops I ended up buying elastic shock cords and cord locks for holding my ice axe, crampons, and my helmet. The only complaint I would have is the hip belt pockets could open a bit wider with longer zippers, and the backpack brain could be designed better in the way that it's easier to access and open from all angles when the pack is on the ground. Detachability would 've been nice.

No nonsense mountain pack with everything you need to succeed. And I just want to comment on some of the other reviews that gave a lower rating for their complete ignorance about mountain packs. Yes, that's correct, it does not have openings on the sides or front of it to access the main compartment. Because it's a mountain pack, needs to be that way. It's a tube, and you put a waterproof liner in it anyway. There is no access other than the top. It's to keep all your essentials like your parka, sleeping back, food, etc., DRY!! Either you have n't ever really climbed a glacier and just want to look kool with a mountain pack, OK, that's fine, but how about learning something before offering up a review that is completely incorrect for a mountain pack.

I borrowed my friends pack for an overnighter in the Sierra, here ’s my thoughts. Modern buckles are really easy to operate with gloves on. Very comfortable suspension. Great for A frame ski( split board) carry. The crampon pocket was just large enough to carry ski and boot( soft boot strap on) crampons. On my skinny body I found the waist belt plenty small enough on the Med/Lg pack. The only thing I didn ’ t fancy was the snow tool pocket, as is the consensus on reviews of this pack. My shovel blade was a tight fit, no room for a three meter probe and no way fat skins would fit. I ’ m generously giving five stars, but will likely hold out on buying one because of the diminutive snow tool pocket.

Bought the AMG 55 in the hope of using for splitboard based winter hut trips and some winter camping. IT has the ability to carry both skis and or a solid snowboard. This bag is burly. Much more so than the more minimalist backpacks I have been employing in recent years that simply are not very functional in snow country. This bag is perfect for what I 've described. It's comfortable, the hip belt and shoulder straps are more cushioned than anything I 've put on my shoulders in a very long time and carrying weight very well.. But at 5 '' 8 '' 145 lbs I 'm basically just fitting in this pack in a size small. I would n't recommend it to persons much smaller than me with a 30 '' waist. My only other gripe is that the luxuriousness of the hip/shoulder padding makes this pack feel bulky when you remove the brain and cinch it down to utilize for a shorter tours with a minimal load. At that point your left with lots of straps flapping around. At least they are colorful;) All in all if you looking for durability, heavy load carrying ability, in a functional layout this pack will deliver for many years of abuse. It's built to last and should for the how much it cost.

My torso is 17 '' so I purchased the S/M size expecting it to be on the shortest setting. I found I needed to have it just under the longest setting to fit me correctly with the middle of the hip belt on my iliac crest. I think you might be able to squeeze into this pack if your torso is 19 '' maximum. Easily the most comfortable pack I have tried on, very happy with my purchase.

[ Just returned from the BWCA with my Aether 65. This is a nice pack that worked well for a 4 day self supported journey deep in the Boundary Waters of Minnesota. Our trip included 5 portages with 3 having quite a bit of undulation. The pack was weighed down with 44lbs of gear and was comfortable( as much as 44lbs of gear can be, definitely dropping some weight on the next trip). I liked it because I typically start trips like this fresh and strong and have my pack set up to that posture with quick( on the fly) adjustments being made as I ’ m flagging from hiking and paddling for hours. Nice pack that is well thought out with all the features you need and none that are useless. Both of my sons were wearing the same pack with zero complaints. Nice product that ’s worth the investment.

[ Have only taken this pack on one trek so far but it was great. Very comfortable and distributes weight nicely. I love how convient it is to access the inside of the pack with the front pouch. Only complaint is the water bottle pocket- it ’s very difficult to get a 1. 5 liter Nalgene in and out when the pack is full.

I did n't understand the significance of a female- specific pack until I got this one-- I had been using a 75L+ unisex/ male pack for 10+ years and it always felt just a little off. The first time putting this one on, fully loaded, for a 5 day backpacking trip, I realized what a game- changer it was. Originally I was concerned going down in size by 5L, but all the pockets and stash points make up for it. It packs much better than my previous pack and the weight is distributed better and sits on my hips more comfortably. Definitely recommend!

Just got this pack as a replacement for my very old and trusted Arial 75. Despite being a guy I got the women's as my last one was a women's and it fit me so well. I am 5' 7 '' '' and 155#. Super comfortable and easy to adjust. I have just used it so far for day backcountry skiing. It easily synched down to a small size and was narrow with no wobble for skiing in the trees. Lots of pockets, I especially like the double pockets in the lid for sorting small stuff.

Used this pack over 3 days and 30 miles summitting King's Peak in Utah. I purposely packed more luxury camp items for a total pack weight of 30 pounds. At that weight the pack was the most comfortable and least sweaty of any I 've ever used. I nearly purchased the pro 55, but some of the features of the standard 58 really make for a more comfortable journey. I can always do the top brain and shave 4- 5 ounces, if desired to get within 7- 8 ounces of the Pro and hit the trail with far more comfort in the shoulder straps, hip padding, andplaces to lay my trekking poles.

[ I bought another version of this backpack for myself earlier this summer and I loved it so much my girlfriend ended up getting this one. Great size for a smaller camping trip. Fits comfy and the pockets are located in great spots. Does n't feel cheap and has yet to cause any issues for me. Would recommend getting a front pouch for snacks to go along with this just cause reaching into the bag while walking is not that easy. Not too difficult to grab water bottles from side pockets which is better than most larger bags.

I 've been using my Zulu 65 for the past few months... some late summer& fall backpacking trips and winter river trip. It's one of the most comfortable packs I 've used before, and it has great pockets for side gear and wallet/phone/keys access. [ I am pretty impressed with this pack. I have a few very high end hunting packs and they always seem to cut off some hip circulation. With a 3 night off trial campsite this pack was fantastic! I was skeptical but this pack performed very well. I really liked the U- zip access, huge hip pockets, and the side pockets that I can grab a waterbottle from while wearing the pack. A couple of things I did n't like: those huge hip pockets left no room for a bear spray holster, there is no way for the lid to double as a separate pack for little jaunts from camp, and the hip belt was maxed tight on my 34 '' waist in the Med/LG frame choice. I adore this pack. My mom bought the Ariel 85L for me a few years ago( 2021) for my first guiding job, and it has been my companion ever since. The pockets make it easy for me to stay organized and access a variety of gear while on the trail, and the brain turns into a little day pack. The only negative on the day pack feature is that the straps secure with plastic toggles through loops rather than buckles, so they come out when you are n't wearing the pack. This pack is super durable. I have sat on it, accidently thrown it in a beaver pond, checked it at the airport, and much more, and it has n't ripped or shown much wear yet( knock on wood of course). The water bottle pockets have a holster feature, so you can access your bottles without help and fit notebooks, maps, or fuel bottles in the top part of the pocket. I am a notorious over packer, and I can always fit everything I need and still hike comfortably with this pack. If you like ultra light this might not be your pack, but if you want to hike for a long time while staying organized and comfortable this is a great pack.

[ The Ariel Plus 85 backpack was a game changer for me. I 'm not a `` professional '' backpacker, so packing everything but the `` kitchen sink '' was a desire. Although I wound up not packing that too, I did manage to get everything I needed, and more, into this pack for a 3 night solo trip. An ultralight tent and a 4. 7 '' high sleeping pad were carried on the outside of the pack, while my mummy- style sleeping bag was in the sleeping bag compartment at the bottom of the bag. Other necessary items took up the rest of the space, with room to spare. Not only was there plenty of room in this bag, but it was incredibly comfortable. I 'm humpbacked, so not many backpacks are comfortable for me. With the adjustable torso feature, I was able to get a truly dialed- in fit and was able to hike without discomfort.

Osprey really outdid themselves with this one, thinking of every little detail for organization and packing this pack. Additionally, the suspension is great and carrying over 40% of my body weight, I felt the weight, but not the pack! I like my comfort and I do not like to be cold and I carry food for my dogs, while they carry the water, therefore, I need all of this space. The only detail that osprey does on all of their packs is that sleeping bag divider is not fully removable, just `` '' disconnect- able '' '' so you still have to carry the divider around with you adding weight and it does get in my way. I have never used it since it prevents me from stuffing every solitary nook and cranny of the bag. Also, when the bag is stuffed, I have never been able to successfully open and then re- close the bottom zipper anyway. Same with the side zippers Osprey has on most of its packs. HOWEVER, they surely did get it right with the front zippers on this pack! You can open the entire front and then re- close it even when fully stuffed! Wonderful!!! Also, the side pockets, unlike other Osprey models, really can be used and things added and taken out even when the pack is fully stuffed. I love the front organization pockets and keep things that I need handy like GPS and maps, etc in one and repellent and netting, or if it is a cold, snowy backpack, gloves and hat, in the other.

My girlfriend ordered the extended fit for me not because I 'm morbidly obese but because my shoulders are 3x the size of the normal person. The Hikelite 18 is incredible for travel, day hikes, daily commuting via bike, and more. It fits under an airplane seat, has hydration bladder capability for day hikes, includes a chest and waist strap to secure the bag to you when biking, and it is the perfect size. Someone wrote that the Hikelite is lacking a handle loop. IDK, mine has one. As I do with all my backpacks, I put a large S- biner on it, so I can hang it, it even hooks over 40 cm thick stall doors so I do n't have to set my pack down. I also riveted thick vinyl sheeting on bottom so that it can be set down on icky bathrooms or muddy ground..... Osprey take note! Bottom of packs should have waterproof vinyl sheet!

I don ’ t think this backpack is for everyone but for me it ’s a game changer. I travel a lot with a work laptop, work clothes, and a second very big wheelie case with equipment. I don ’ t want two wheelie cases( awkward through stations) and I do want a separate laptop pack for work. This fits the bill perfectly. I had the previous model but I needed carry on. Delighted I made the replacement. When assembled the whole pack is a bit “ Frankenstein ” and it could use more pockets, but it works a treat, is well made, easy to use and an absolute game changer for me.

[ My Atmos AG 65 was a replacent for my 10 year old Atmos backpack. After 10 years the old pack started `` delaminating '', I guess it is called, when the coating inside starts to peel. I was happily surprised when Osprey replaced the pack under their all mighty guarantee. I really liked my old Atmos for the ventilation on the back and for the pockets. I am finding I like the Atmos AG even more. It fits me better and carries very well for me. It is not nearly as light as my Kakwa, but the convenience of the pockets, the airflow for my back, and just the general feel of the weighted pack will keep it relevant and useful for many years to come. I expect this pack will not spend much time hanging in the closet.
