[ These are incredibly useful for overlanding. I can keep them in the rig or if I need extra space, throw them on the roof.

I ’ ve used several of sea to summits lightweight dry bags in the past. The lightweight bags are great for application where abrasion is minimized but a susceptible to getting small holes in rough environment or after heavy use. The big river bag is the perfect heavier duty compliment to the lightweight dry bag for applications like kayaking, bikepacking and other adventures where you need to keep items out of the elements but where abrasion can ’ t be entirely avoided. I ’ ve used the 13L size in a few of my whitewater kayaks including my half slice and it a great size to slide behind the seat. Never had a drop of water get in. I like the 13L size, it could easily fit a sleeping bag and a light layer in it. Have yet to get it out on a bike packing mission but expect the lash points will be nice to have. The picante red color is awesome. Looking forward to taking it on more adventures.

The Big River dry bag as the perfect bag for sea kayaking adventures. With rocky shores on the Maine coast I do n't have to worry about punctures and abrasions. With the added tie loops I can even attach the bag to the outside of my kayak if needed. It's a great addition to my storage solutions.

The seats are comfy, but I would suggest back support if planning to lake fish or lunch on a lake. ... It is well proportioned and easily manageable for two people to easily load/unload it and get it on the water

I have had this boat out for a canoeing trip with a full boat( 3 of us) and a fishing trip with( 2). Super stable and surprising fast boat for its width. It moves right along with a long Kayak paddle( 260CM). The only drawback is that it seems heavier than its specified 78LB.

My first canoe, but I ’ ve used several from other friends and family. Very well made. The seats are comfy, but I would suggest back support if planning to lake fish or lunch on a lake. For the river it ’s perfect. The finish of the boat is good. Easy to carry, and 13 ’ fits well in my 6 ’ truck bed with the tailgate down. The wide mid section makes it very stable on water. Don ’ t hesitate if you ’ re thinking about it. It ’s a good boat.

I bought this boat for both short family trips and max- gear solo excursions, and so far i ’ m super happy. The boat is about as big/ heavy as I ’ d ever want to deal with solo, but having said that, i can totally manage it on and off the roof rack. Two kids fit side by side in the center seat, and solo, i can paddle from the center or flip the boat and paddle from the bow seat backwards. I ’ ve got a 280cm kayak paddle and a 54 ” bent shaft canoe paddle, and both work fine for solo trips. It ’s not fast or light, and of course not for portages, but if you need a big gear hauler that can work as a solo boat, it ’s perfect.

I just purchased this canoe to replace my original Discovery 133, which I ended up trading for a pair of wire cutters. Yep, you read that right. About a month ago I visited the completely fenced in storage lot where we live and had the boat stored in AND ACTUALLY CHAINED TO THE FENCE!!! What I found in place of my canoe was the pair of wire cutters that were used to cut the fence the boat was chained to. then they apparently lifted it over a 7' tall fence. So apparently someone else likes the Old town Discovery 133 as much as I and also thinks it is a great canoe. Seriously, it is a very high quality product, very stable due to it's wide beam, yet still moves easily through the water and is remarkably maneuverable. I was delighted to find a new one to replace it on the Old town website, purchased it immediately and just as predicted when I bought it, it arrived 2 weeks later at my door. The packaging was great and kept the canoe from getting and scratched or `` dings '' in transit. Excellent job all around by Old Town.

My wife and I bought this canoe to paddle and fish on our neighborhood's 100 acre lake in Owasso, OK. We are very satisfied with our Discovery 133 for this purpose. The canoe is easy to paddle for two amateur canoers. It tracks well. I was able to stand and comfortably fly fish out of it with no concerns for the canoe tipping over. It is well proportioned and easily manageable for two people to easily load/unload it and get it on the water quickly. My wife and I both found the web seats to be comfortable for the two hour trips that we take out on the lake. This is the perfect beginner canoe for small lake fishing and leisurely paddling.

We were a little biased toward Old Town products after getting a pair of Old Town kayaks a few years ago. This canoe is is well- made, stable, and very durable so far. Maybe a little on the heavy side, but for a general- purpose canoe, the Discovery 158 was the best value we could find. Not as sleek or light as more expensive canoes, but a good choice for recreational paddlers. Delivery from Old Town was timely and the canoe arrived in perfect condition.

This canoe is exactly what I wanted. The color is perfect. Shipping was seamless. I needed to delay the ship date by a day due to work commitment and the shipping company was easy to work with. It doea come on an eighteen wheeler so keep that in mind. The canoe came wrapped in double plastic with cardboard surrounding the sensitive areas. No damage at all and Old Town communicated everything as needed. Ca n't wait to go, paddle around!

I got this canoe because I wanted a lightweight two person canoe that I could handle myself if I had to as a female. I also do a fair bit of portaging. The canoe is stable, durable, and comfortable. A great all around canoe. I 've done my fair bit of `` rock painting ''( when the canoe scraps against a rock, leaving behind some green) and the canoe is very durable, a work horse! I feel very safe in it.

I truly love this canoe. It ’s glides through the water with minimal effort, looks fantastic( I have the camo color), and appears to be built impeccably well. I put a lot of online research into this purchase and am very glad I went with Old Town. I ’ d highly recommend the Discovery 169.

I bought this canoe with only ever using old towns at canoe rental places. I knew I wanted one because if they last long enough at rental places then that means they ’ ll last me a lifetime! I purchased the discovery 169 with fishing, hunting and recreational use in mind. It is the perfect all around canoe.
Canoe float bags are designed to provide buoyancy and help keep your canoe afloat in case of capsizing. They are typically placed in the ends of the canoe to displace water and prevent it from filling the hull. This added buoyancy can be crucial for safety and recovery in water, especially in whitewater conditions.
Canoe float bags are often made from durable materials such as vinyl or nylon, which are resistant to water and abrasion. These materials help ensure that the float bags can withstand the rigors of outdoor use and provide reliable performance. The choice of material can also affect the weight and flexibility of the float bags.
Choosing the right size float bag depends on the dimensions of your canoe and the type of paddling you plan to do. It's important to select float bags that fit snugly in the ends of your canoe without being overly compressed. Generally, longer float bags are suitable for larger canoes, while shorter bags work well for smaller models.
Yes, float bags can be used in a variety of water conditions, including calm lakes and fast-moving rivers. They are particularly beneficial in whitewater environments where the risk of capsizing is higher. Using float bags in turbulent waters can enhance safety by keeping your canoe buoyant and easier to recover.
Float bags can improve the performance of a canoe by enhancing stability and buoyancy. They help prevent water from entering the hull, which can lead to a more controlled and enjoyable paddling experience. Additionally, they can aid in maneuverability and reduce the overall weight of the canoe when paddling.
