They do not come sharpened, so we had them sharpened at a local ice rink this year. They are flat inside so if you have high arches or foot issues you may want inserts for them. As a young boy we could n't afford hockey skates so I always wore my sisters figure skates. Much later when I was now on my own I took back into ice skating but this time wearing men's hockey skates. The problem with the men's skates they did n't have toe picks and that was what I really missed.
