In the past I had a few bad experiences with Daiwa fishing gear and as a result was skeptical of their products for years. Then a couple months ago I bought a couple Daiwa reels that impressed me for carp fishing and they were so sturdy and solid and casted so well that I use them for saltwater as well. While the reels were up to the challenge for surf fishing my Carp rods were not so I picked up 2 of these 11 Daiwa surf rods and am so glad I did. They feel so good and solid and cast beautifully. I have so much control over where my bait lands with these rods and have just enough sensitivity to see and feel even the small bites. I ordered this originally in February and instead of receiving the item I ordered( 10ft MH) i got a Marathon Fathom rod... after complaining to customer service, they sent me out a new one.... now of course, the rod I received was only 9ft and not the 10ft I ordered. Dicks still has n't given me the product I originally ordered. However, the 9ft performed exactly how I thought it would. and it was awesome. It threw 4oz with a chunk of clam at least 80yrds with ease. Handled bringing in two schoolie stripers 26and 27 '' perfectly. Caught 3 big bat rays and a 5 ft long leopard shark on the combo with ease. I was looking for something smaller/lighter but still tough enough for medium duty saltwater. I opted for the Penn Fierce IV 4500 series which I spooled with PowerPro 30lb braid, as opposed to paying almost double for a Spinfisher 4000 series with LiveLiner option. Very satisfied. Have caught blues on bait in the surf and some larger catfish in freshwater so far. Versatile setup.
