This is unbelievably strong line. I also like the fact it has very little memory. I can start the day with a new leader( with coils) and end the day with the leader completely straight. This is a great line. Also, when I see the package of 3 I get them, too. Keep up the good work. Danny Sturm

[ I ’ m a beginner in fly fishing, so with that said it ’s difficult to understand all the different types of items on the market. RIO, does help make those decisions easier. This is a very nice set. I 'm comparing this to my Or is Clearwater and it's holding up well. The rod is similar in characteristics. It feels a little less sensitive but acceptable. The finish is matte and really nice looking. The price shows in small details. The pieces are not marked for fit and the openings are not sealed. Neither point is really an issue. The cork handle seems a bit soft and maybe a tad lower quality than the orvis. I think this could become an issue over time and extended use. The reel seems fine. Not as smooth as my orvis either but overall very close. Very happy with it. The weak point in my opinion is the line. While I 'm no expert, it does n't feel quite as good. It's definitely functional but does n't have an end loop for easy threading of the leader. That also makes it a bit rough to thread through the rod sometimes. Anyway, of course there's a reason for the price but at that price I recommend this set. On our first outing, my son caught 5(!) Really nice trout vs my 2 on the Orvis. Obviously that's more due to the flies he was using and his skills:-) but it shows that this set works well. All the other bells and whistles are not necessary needed. It may come down to durability in the end.

While using these leaders I had caught 7 beautiful Rainbow Trout while fellow fly casters had a very hard time hooking up. We had a wonderful day in the Deschutes National Forest, Oregon on Clear Lake. the weather was very overcast and the water was very pristine and blue. The Rio leaders are my best choice for performance and price and would recommend them to all my fellow fishing buddies!

On the way to my annual trout flyfishing trip to RCMP, I stopped into Dick's and picked up packages of Rio's three pack trout leaders in four and five X, 9 1/2foot size. I used them on the ten- day trip. The leaders performed exactly as I hoped... durable, did n't kink, and stood up to some good fish and some not- so- good rocks, bushes, and trees. Nothing surprising in any of that, if you know Rio products, except for the price of these little guys. The three pack saved me enough money so that I could buy some extra flies, which may or may not have caught me a few extra fish, which definitely enhanced the enjoyment factor of my trip. Buying good quality stuff is good; saving money on good quality stuff is better.

Although I did mess up on my first attempt by sliding the plastic tube back over the frayed end too far( my fault, not the product), I have to say these things are a great addition to the arsenal. East to use and hold tight and secure. Was worried about it affecting casting/turnover but it's like it's not even there. For the price I definitely suggest grabbing a pack.

I was getting by on my leather belt. Since that worked pretty well, I moved up to using an old( but high quality) work glove which worked a little better. Used it to straighten Fluoroclear and 100% fluorocarbon line and leader. Design is functional like most others. High quality leather throughout... but the patch inside the flaps seems to be the best feature.

[ This leader straightener gets the leaders all the way straight, not a single notion of being off of center, excellent!!
A leader for fly fishing is a length of material that connects the fly line to the fly. It plays a crucial role in presenting the fly naturally on the water's surface and ensuring a smooth transition of energy during casting. The right leader can enhance your casting accuracy and help you catch more fish by allowing for better control and presentation of the fly.
Fly fishing leaders are typically made from materials such as nylon, fluorocarbon, or a combination of both. Nylon leaders are known for their strength and elasticity, while fluorocarbon leaders offer low visibility underwater and increased sensitivity. The choice of material can significantly affect the performance and effectiveness of your fly fishing setup.
Choosing the right leader depends on the type of fly fishing you are doing, the species you are targeting, and the water conditions. For example, lighter leaders are often used for delicate presentations in clear water, while heavier leaders are suitable for larger fish or when fishing in heavy cover. Understanding the specific requirements of your fishing environment will help you select the most effective leader.
Different types of fly fishing leaders vary in length, thickness, and taper design, which can affect casting and presentation. Some leaders are designed for specific techniques, such as dry fly fishing or nymphing, while others may be more versatile. Knowing the characteristics of each type can help you match the leader to your fishing style and target species.
The length of a leader can significantly influence your fly fishing performance. Longer leaders can provide a more delicate presentation, making them ideal for spooky fish in clear water. Conversely, shorter leaders offer increased control and are better suited for casting in windy conditions or when fishing in heavy cover.
When selecting a leader for fly fishing, consider factors such as the type of fish you are targeting, the water conditions, and the type of flies you will be using. Additionally, think about the leader's material and taper, as these can affect visibility, strength, and how well the fly presents on the water. Matching these factors to your fishing scenario will enhance your overall success.
