I use this knife for skinning and quartering axis deer, and of all the knives I have( even those made for skinning deer) this knife is my favorite. Just the right size, holds an edge well, sharpens quickly, and hasn ’ t broken a tip while separating hip sockets. Have been using for over two years now( I harvest about 12- 15 deer per year in Hawaii where there is no deer season and way too many deer). I picked up this knife for a shop over 5 yeara ago, still carry it to this day. If you wear jeans with the little pocket above your bigger right front pocket, this knife fits perfectly in there so toss out whatever belt case Gerber gives you for this knife and keep it in that pocket. I have worn holes in my pants from keeping this knife in that spot on a daily basis! The knife is strong, well balanced, feels great in the hand. I 've had some blade wiggle but it's a simple retightening of a bolt. I 've worn off the rubber from the grip and I know if I ever get another one of these knives( which I will) I 'm going to put my worn grip on the new one! Only downside if that little bolt that fixes the wiggle, it strips really easy. If they used better metal or a different head like a robinson or something, it wouldnt strip as easy. Ive used and abused this knife, I use it camping, hunting, general work, no problems. Holds an edge really well, easy to sharpen.

I love this knife! My favorite EDC. Super comfortable and an easy one handed operated folder. It's not fast to put away, but the draw is quick. Gerber just needs to make a version with better steel, like S30V would be fine. 8 years in the army and I went through 3 of these. I think the clip could be better too. But jimping is amazing and the lightweight frame is on point!

I did n't realize how much I loved this knife until I lost it. I used it almost daily for just about anything you can think. The knife was extremely durable. What I ended up loving the most about the knife was it's light weight but sturdy frame. I could take it on jogs and light weight backpacking trips because of its weight. [ Got this knife 8 or so years ago and have beat on it. It has held up to a lot of abuse. Super sharp when i got it. The edge held for a while but if you are actually using this knife, you will eventually have to sharpen it. It takes patience to get a nice edge back. Crazy hard steel. Great knife overall. One of the best knives ive owned. Have put it to the test being a pool cleaner, it deals with chlorine, acid, chemicals, and its still as sharp as the day it arrived. Once its broke in its easy to open, the blade lock is great, and zero rust or divits to the blade from work. Never owned a Sog before but will definitely buy another one after this one wears out

This model does what it ’s supposed to do; and it doesn ’ t do what it ’s not supposed to do. Now the details: 1. If you are looking for a self- defense knife, skip this knife and skip this review, because that ’s not what I bought it for. Anyway, nobody wins in a knife fight. 2. If you are looking for a superlative hunting knife, skip this knife and this review. The tip is not optimized for piercing, but it is not rounded enough to keep from tearing up a hide while skinning an animal. 3. If you are looking for a tactical knife with a black blade and serrated edges at the base, skip this knife and get one of the many made- in- China models that appeal to the macho image. 4. If you are looking for an EDC knife, the high price of this model may deter you from actually carrying it around every day; but Dick ’s did everything possible to make it more affordable, so maybe you& I will carry it around after all. 5.
