I have bought this rod a few times. Pretty good rod for the price. Very light weight and plenty of sensitivity. I use this rod a lot for fluke fishing, but its strong enough to handle a decent size striper if you take your time. Highly recommend,

I saw a recommendation from a MLF pro about this rod- the 6- 10 ML Fast- as a great rod for shaking a minnow with FFS. It was a great find for the price! Light weight and does a great job of easily shaking the bait to attract the fish. Like it so much I got a second one

Use this rod primarily for spot fishing using football jigs and also finesse worms. I absolutely love the feel of this rod and especially like the reel seat setup. For the money, this is a hard rod to beat!

Catch Release
I have all four of the Dobyns Kaden Series spinning rods( xtra L, L, ML, M). This review is for the 7 ’ “ extra light ” trout/panfish model. Prior to purchase, I assumed “ extra light ” was somewhere between ultra light and light powered, based on the recommended line and lure weight for this rod compared to other Dobyns rods in their other series. I was a little concerned it would be too whippy, as many 7 ’ ultra lights can be. I would say that the Kaden series spinning rods, in general, have a bit more backbone than your typical spinning rods and the “ extra light ” is no exception. This rod is not a noodle, It has a nice fast tapered tip that will easily detect subtle hits from small sunfish and trout, and finesse fishing for bass. The rod will easily handle most bass, unless you are fishing in heavy vegetation. The unique action and power of this rod make this an excellent multi species rod. The rod has a high quality, comfortable, split cork grip with hook keeper below the handle. The rod blank is a clean, matte black finish and has 10 quality guides. The rod is a true fast action taper and it ’s power exceeds the “ extra light ” rating it ’s given. I ’ d recommend this rod to a friend and would purchase again myself. Given that I have all four of the Dobyns Kaden spinning rods, but had to only keep two of them, I ’ d probably pick the “ extra light ”( trout/panfish) and the M power and be able to catch just about anything I fish for.
5
Catch and Release
The Dobyns Kaden Light Power, Fast Action rod has has a quick taper at the tip and more backbone than typical `` light power '' rods making it a great choice for large panfish, trout, and bass when throwing 1/8- 3/8 oz. lures. The rod is very sensitive and capable of detecting subtle bites and underwater structure. The rod quality and finish are excellent. The rod blank is finished with Sea Guide's XO guides, Fuji reel seat, contoured split grip cork handle, and the blank is a clean black matte finish that easily matches all reel colors.

i bought this rod 2 months ago and absolutely happy with it for$ 20. 00 did n't expect much but man this rod has been great. i live on the central coast of California and I 've use this rod in the surf for rock fishing and it hold up really well. these rod can handle good size fish. i have caught up to 3lb surf perch on this rod, 18 inch green- lings and 7lb Cabezon, freed line from thick weeds and horse fish out of rocks with this rod. I 'm a budget oriented angler and on this rod its the best use of$ 20. 00 i ever spent hands down..

I have a few surf rods, all cost way more then this one and funny thing is this one is my absolute favorite. I tell everyone how shocked I was with how good this one feels and performs and that it truly is the best 20$ I ever spent in my life. I reeled in a 10lb striper out of heavy surf just the other day with 30mph headwinds casting a 2oz bucktail. I have the 11 ’ one. If you surfcast, try this rod. You ’ ll probably sell all your others. Feels so good in the hands and it ’s so easy on my back and the casting goes so far and the lure action is so easy to handle. Buy this rod now.

In the past I had a few bad experiences with Daiwa fishing gear and as a result was skeptical of their products for years. Then a couple months ago I bought a couple Daiwa reels that impressed me for carp fishing and they were so sturdy and solid and casted so well that I use them for saltwater as well. While the reels were up to the challenge for surf fishing my Carp rods were not so I picked up 2 of these 11 Daiwa surf rods and am so glad I did. They feel so good and solid and cast beautifully. I have so much control over where my bait lands with these rods and have just enough sensitivity to see and feel even the small bites. I am blown away by the quality of these rods and would recommend them to anyone.

I have several of these rods both baitcasting and spinning. For the price they are a very good product. Do n't blame the rod for the inability to cast for distance or accuracy. It takes a good combination of rod, reel and line. I use them for Snakehead fishing and have never had a problem yanking them out of the junk.

zlw810
Assuming you do your research and make sure your lure weights fall into the recommended range, this rod loads up and casts like a dream. It is my number one go to rod on all of my spinning setups, and thats not even considering the great price. Super light weight, but has a super stiff backbone for a medium power rod.
5
Checkerfred
This is a sensitive and nice looking rod. It ’s too early to tell on durability but so far so good. It ’s easy to feel soft bits and the bottom. Only con I can really see is I wish the hook keeper was lower toward the butt of the rod.

This is my second Okuma SST spinning rod for steelhead fishing. I use the 10' 6 '' SST Float Drift because it is well made, light, fast tip, and costs a third of the more expensive rods. I am not giving up anything on capability with this rod and it is priced right for me. I fish an Okuma Trios spinning reel for steelhead. I use 30 lb. braid for the main line. I use this rod for bobber doggin', float fishing, and drift fishing. Great quality at a great price that does n't break my bank!
5
Puget Sound Angler Man
This is the Medium Heavy Medium Fast 8' 6 '' carbon handle version. FYI, the website misspelled it as `` Mag '' Heavy when it should be `` Med '' heavy. The SST MH, MF 8' 6 '' is a great do- it- all rod length power and action for Pacific Northwest fishing from trout to large king salmon. I use mine mostly for bass and Coho+ King salmon which can get over 25lbs. I paired mine with a 4000 series reel which is about ideal reel size for this rod. The rod has more of a fast action than medium fast by other company's standards. It also has a decent backbone near the handle area for when I need to clamp down the drag and horse a giant fish away from snags or to yank them up onto the shore. I sort of like the feel of cork grips over these carbon ones, but the carbon ones clean up way easier, and if I really wanted to, I could put cork handle bar tape on the carbon grips, especially to make the handle warmer in freezing weather.

I bought this rod because I had 2 more and wanted to have 1 for each member of the family. We used them for salmon fishing and the quality is exceptional for a$ 100 rod. I paired them with Penn 4000 reels and they work like a dream. More than half of all my fishing rods are Okuma. I will buy another Okuma if I need one.

When searching for a quality spinning rod, consider factors such as the rod's material, action, and power. High-quality rods are typically made from graphite or composite materials, which offer a good balance of sensitivity and durability. Additionally, the action of the rod affects how it bends and responds to fish, while the power rating helps determine the rod's strength and suitability for different fishing techniques.
The length of a spinning rod plays a crucial role in casting distance, accuracy, and control. Longer rods generally allow for longer casts and better line control, making them ideal for open water fishing. Conversely, shorter rods provide increased accuracy and are often preferred for fishing in tight spaces or when targeting specific species.
Spinning rod actions can be categorized as fast, medium, or slow, each affecting how the rod bends during use. Fast action rods bend primarily at the tip, providing quick responsiveness and sensitivity, which is great for detecting bites. Medium action rods offer a balance between sensitivity and power, while slow action rods bend more throughout the length, making them ideal for casting lighter lures and providing a more forgiving experience.
Yes, different types of spinning rods are designed for various fishing techniques and environments. For example, some rods are optimized for freshwater fishing, while others are built for saltwater use. Additionally, rods may be tailored for specific species, such as bass or trout, and can vary in power and action to accommodate different lure weights and fishing styles.
Quality spinning rods are typically constructed from materials like graphite, fiberglass, or composite blends. Graphite rods are known for their sensitivity and lightweight properties, making them popular among anglers seeking performance. Fiberglass rods, on the other hand, offer durability and flexibility, which can be advantageous for certain fishing techniques and environments.
Choosing the right power rating for a spinning rod depends on the type of fish you plan to target and the techniques you intend to use. Power ratings range from ultra-light to heavy, with lighter rods suitable for smaller fish and finesse techniques, while heavier rods are designed for larger species and more aggressive fishing styles. It's important to match the rod's power with your fishing needs for optimal performance.
