Bought the lure to augment an offshore trolling spread consisting of surface and near- surface lines. Fished the plug on 20- pound trolling outfit, with 12- foot 150- pound mono leader, run about 100 feet down the middle. The plug pulls hard when trolled at 7 to 8 knots, but digs down and swims well, even at that speed-- although anglers should be warned that at that speed, a 20 is about as light as you can go, as the lure will take line off the reel if anything less than 7 pounds of drag is used. Primary target for the lure was dolphin( mahi- mahi), which hit it well when not showing on the surface; the plug drew a strike from my largest mahi of the 2018 season.

Veghead surfer
These are great lures which attract some big bass, I have personal experience. When pulled they give a thumping vibration, that's a big part of its attraction, as well as very good action for a deep jerkbait. Tough to lose one as they cost a pretty penny, but honestly if you love jerkbait fishing like I do you 'll love these lures, the shallow version are good as well.

Definitely my go to lure. If you just wan na catch a fish tie one of these on. Its small but VERY loud for a tiny lipless crankbait. Can cast really good even with a bait caster and is fairly aerodynamic, lands straight and belly down `` 99% '' of the time. I use this for both salt and fresh water. Ive caught panfish of many sizes along with bass, chain pickerel, crappie, white+ yellow perch, red drum, baby striper barely longer than the bait to 20+ inchers. Its just a fish catcher! Colors I mainly use for this are helsinki shad and blue chrome( pure personal opinion but Im sure all the colors work). Im trying the pink tiger next! Random: This was one of the first rapala lures Ive ever bought back in the day( Im only 18, lol) and it quickly became a lure I always had faith in. Whenever I was feelin one of those `` not so serious '' kind of fishing days Id always have at least one of these in my mini tackle crate.

This is a great all around lure. I buy it in the uv green tiger and it kills on days when nothing else works. I have caught almost every type of freshwater game fish in my area south eastern NY with this lure including but not limited to trout, bass, pickerel, muskies and perch. I 've been very happy with the action, durability and color options of the Rapala Cleanup Craw. I 've used it as a jig trailer and Texas rigged it on an EWG hook with success. The claws do n't tear off on short strikes which is a huge plus. The forward facing appendages on the side of the craw flutter when retrieved. The two tone color of the plastic and glitter look great in the water. Most importantly, this lure gets bit.
