My partner and I recently bought two kayaks from Dick ’s and needed to transport them over 100 miles through several mountain passes on a windy day. On a whim, we bought this kit and we are so glad we did. In the parking lot of the Dick ’s, we were able to install the kit on the crossbars of her Subaru Outback within 30 minutes and did not need a single tool for assembly! The instructions that came with the kit were clear and taught us how to safely secure our kayaks to the car. After tightening the straps, the kayaks didn ’ t budge for the entire trek home. [ Finally got tired of shoving my bike into the cab of my Jeep and bought the Yak SpareRide... could n't happier with the purchase. Install was simple and the fold- down feature is convenient. The ratchet clips are a little tricky at first but hold the bikes securely while driving. The locking mount knob is awesome and having a simple cable lock that is keyed- alike with the knob is so convenient. Overall, it's a pretty slick system that is solidly built and well- refined for my needs.

This is a great rack and is super easy to install. If you can remove your spare tire, you can install it with no problem. Works great for my 2023 Land Rover Defender, the middle length post is a perfect fit for the standard 22 inch rims. The biggest thing to keep in mind is that full suspension mountain bikes can require a bit of creativity to mount due to the SpareRide holding them at two points on the top tube and one point on the seat tube. Depending on the anatomy of your bike I can see this rack maybe not working, but for all other bikes you 'll be good to go.

If you 've never driven with a rooftop cargo box it does change the aerodynamics of your car/van. Like it so far- we have a Rav 4 Adventure and had to put the rack in the middle which makes it a little harder to get the Kayaks on the roof. It might have been better if we bought two separate units so they could be closer to the side of the Rav. Also with the support straight up, the bigger Kayak needs to be held until you get the first strap on it. All that said, the rack seem strong and the Kayaks rode well.

Overall a pretty good option for my youth rec player. His gear fits pretty well and the accessories can be organized into the front pockets( tape rolls, scissors, etc). That front pouch is pretty limited though and the main compartment doesnt have any dividers so it's a bit of a free for all in there. I wish it was compartmentalized to allow for more organization at this price point. There's a side water bottle pocket which is handy, but not a stick sleeve. Vented all around so gear can dry out better than other bags. Overall it gets the job done, but leaves a bit to be desired.

Works great. Like most Thule products the instructions are at best vague. Plan on redoing it at least once. The biggest challenge is the integration with the Caprock. When you put a Caprock over the back you take off the cross bars. So now you have two crossbars with no known future to store or throw away( bleh). I would also note that another three inches in height would make the product much more versatile, as others have noted. All- in- all though a great product!
