Last year she decided that helmets were unnecessary and did not really provide much protection and that their effectiveness was overrated. I never wore a helmet so it was no concern to me. I really wanted a helmet with MIPS, and liked the look and comfort of this helmet( sleeker than the original Isode), but simply could n't make it fit. The straps are sewn at a fixed point where they meet under the ear, rather than having an adjustable clip as most other helmets do. When the chin clip was adjusted to the correct length, the front strap came down an inch in front of my ears, and the `` Y joint '' was at my jaw rather than under my ears. The strap system pulls through the back, so all Giro needed to do was add a clip under the ear on the right side. The straps are softer than on cheaper models, adding to the comfort factor. If only it could be made to fit.

About the only thing that it falls short on is the straps are shorter than I 'd like, such that I only have about an inch of strap beyond the buckle and would prefer to see another 1- 2 inches for better adjustability. This helmet is so comfortable and light I forget I have it on. I repeatedly hiked out of ice crags and alpine environments not realizing I ’ m wearing my helmet until I knocked it on the roof of my car while getting in. The best helmet is the one you don ’ t know you ’ re wearing. I previously had an old petzl hard shell helmet and while comfortable, you knew you were wearing a helmet. We ’ ll see how this holds up long term, but after most of an ice climbing season, it ’s still pristine.

I 've used this solely for outdoor rock climbing so far. It's been amazing. The helmet is extremely breathable. It manages to stay on your head while your shifting it around, due to the highly adjustable fit. Numerous people have used it, and its been well liked due the the adjustability. I have used it in cold and rainy weather, and it fits seamlessly into my Mammut Eiger Extreme shell. Overall a great helmet for getting into climbing.

I 've purchased many helmets for climbing/scrambling, and this is by far my favorite. It is lightweight enough that I barely notice it on my head or attached to my pack, it's extremely comfortable, and it fits over a hat if I want to wear one. I also like the low- fuss adjustments of the soft nylon straps in the back, which other helmets that I 've tried often make out of hard plastic, which can be uncomfortable. It fits snug, and though I( thankfully) have n't had to test its performance in a fall/during rockfall, I have no doubt it will do its job. I was a little worried about the durability of the exposed foam, but after carrying it through a heavy hailstorm and generally banging it around in the back of the car or on whatever summit I take it off on, I ca n't spot a single dent.

So, this helmet might not be the most inexpensive but it is a name brand from a trusted retailer( I will not take my chance on other sites where they may try to pass a counterfeit), it is light and comfortable, warm, and looks good. The Ignite is a great helmet. The shape and fit of the helmet works well with my headshape. A key feature for me is the integration of the helmet with Smith's sunglasses. Being able to stow glasses away in the vents and having confidence that they then wo n't fall out is a huge win in my book. I went through many combinations and returns before finding the Smith combination of helmet and glasses. [ Picked this up after I finally realized my old Oakley mod 3 had a few too many bumps and bruises, and I 'm very happy I did. I have oddly sensitive ears and get pain from standard ear pads on most helmets, but the mod5 has ear cups with a hollow space inside that fit perfectly. Helmet has lots of ventilation and does not feel heavy when wearing. Kept me warm on a cold day recently, and with all these vents I 'm sure it 'll be cool in the spring.. I would buy again.

Trace seems to me is upgraded Overtake which I 've had for some years. Please do n't take my word but similarities are there. Very satisfied with Overtake except ventilation. Smith got it fixed with Trace even with glasses vents to eliminate fogging. That works well but I 've not had a chance to test it on humid summer day. Downfall is that the helmet's front sits lower over glasses to make ventilation work but I 've experienced bumping between helmet and glasses during rougher gravel ride. MTB ride was the same story but I can live with that. It is not a MTB helmet. Fits great just like Overtake. Love new improved straps. Highly recommend this lid.

I took a pretty big slam to the back of my head on my first ride with this helmet and I ’ m not brain dead so I ’ m gon na say it works as advertised. Im actually pretty surprised the helmet is still intact as well. I didn ’ t feel hot or cold with it, so that ’s cool. Style is subjective.

Great helmet! Very comfortable and functional. I love that I can open and close the front and back vents separately to help regulate temperature and ventilation. Helmet works well with bluetooth in helmet music( I use Outdoor Tech Chips). I 've not had a hard crash yet to test it, but I 'm glad this helmet has the MIPS system just in case.

I never wear a helmet when i bike. My wife owns several helmets and will sometimes wear one when we ride together, and she always wears one when she rides with her parents. Recently we were going on a ride with her parents. As we were packing up my wife said i had to wear a helmet and gave me her persist. When i gave her a funny look she said you know my mom is a nurse and obsessives over safety just wear it. I said okay and She helped me get it fitted. The helmet fit my normal male head and with some minor strap adjustments i was able to get a great fit. I snugged up the chin strap when we set off. During the ride It actually was very very light and comfortable very well vented and did not feel hot. It felt safe and i am sure i was riding harder than usual. When we were done my wife asked what I thought. I told her i liked it and was considering my own. She seemed surprised excitedly that i was being safe. She also told me i was more than welcome to wear it on any ride since she has multiple helmets.

As a loving wife I naturally worry about my husband ’s well being. I have never been big on helmets so once the kids hit their teens they quit wearing their helmet and my husband and i never wore helmets. My husband used to bike with the boys but they are gone now sooo he rides alone and of course i worry about him while he is riding by himself. He always wear bright colors and an orange hat. Recently i purchased him a smith persist in poppy. When i gave it to him i said he did not have to wear it i just wanted him to have the option. When he put it on I was really surprised and a bit excited as i had secretly wished he would wear it. After his first ride he told me the helmet was really nice and it made him feel safe. He does not wear it on every ride but he does wear it often it seems to like it.

The helmet is great. But like anything you wear, the fit is what counts. In my case, the front pushes my safety glasses down and out of my nose. My previous helmet did not have this problem. Again, I do not think it is a problem with the helmet itself, but you may want to consider visiting your Local Bike Shop( LBS) to buy a helmet you can try on with your glasses, etc.

I commute in NYC to work everyday on a bike and my husband( thankfully) made me get a helmet. I thought this was a perfect mix of function+aesthetic+value. First, I really liked this helmet from a comfort and fit perspective. It kept my head dry, fit well without constricting, so no complaints there. Second, I ’ ve referred to my helmet in the past tense because on a recent ski trip( I ’ m a boarder, but my family skis, so I ’ m going with ski trip here) I caught my edge on my last run( I know, I know) and I was slammed into the slope on my back, and I whacked my head on the ground. It was a hard impact. I still got a concussion, but I am certain my helmet saved me from much worse. I ’ ll be replacing my helmet with another Smith. Hopefully the new one will have a more peaceful retirement.

I had a bad road bike crash recently. Was airlifted to a spinal facility with fractured vertebrae, ribs and a pneumo thorax. I am on the mend but my new Smith Network MIPS helmet did not survive. It did the job it was designed to do- protect my head. Well worth every cent.

This is my second of these helmets. I wear it on road and gravel rides. I can ’ t say enough good things about this helmet. It ’s comfortable, matches any sunglasses you want to wear, and it ’s protective. This is my second one because my previous one saved my noggin on a gravel ride where I got a little fast into a corner. Smashed myself into a tree at high speed, seperated my shoulder, and caved my helmet in. Kept my head safe from the impact.
