This is both my first Giro brand helmet and my first MIPS technology helmet. I like how Giro has the side straps set already so that's two less buckles to adjust and loosen on their own. Coming from Bell helmets I had to get used to adjusting the straps by pulling to center them each wear no biggie for better comfort. Speaking of comfort the dial to tighten in the back is much better than Bell helmets. The MIPS technology allows the helmet to move slightly while staying right to your head to reduce injury in a collision. The title says it all. I 'm not gon na lie- my main objective for a helmet purchase for my daughter was to find one in hot pink. There are plenty out there, but none of them are from brands that I trust or that carried the necessary impact certifications for caving. My only wish is that there was a slightly higher end helmet available in this same color( like the half dome at least), but that's no fault of the Capitan. Last year she decided that helmets were unnecessary and did not really provide much protection and that their effectiveness was overrated. I never wore a helmet so it was no concern to me. Kids Captain is great! We have some very adventurous kiddos and so having a helmet that is good for both bikes and climbing is such a great design. One less thing to pack and we get more use out of it than if we had to buy one for each sport. Great adjustability range to grow, though I do wish it got a smidgen smaller. I 'll say the same thing about the adult helmets, but this get accolades for also being dual use as a bike helmet on the kids version. The Capitan is my pick for the best compromise for overall helmets. Plenty light enough for almost anything, but has hard- shell durability. The adjustment system works fine, although I 'd prefer a BOA style adjustment. Really a helmet that leaves nothing to complain about.

While climbing helmets are catching up with technology and we 're starting to see helmets with MIPS and other tech, I would say this helmet is going to save your bacon from a rock or moderate wall impact.
