This is a cheap and simple way to add some safety to your climbing. I bought this originally to give my parents some peace of mind but after my girlfriend dropped a quickdraw on my noggin I was happy I had it. I got a couple of these for me and to loan to anyone I go climbing with who may not have one, and so far they 've worked great. They 're very comfortable and very adjustable to fit a lot of different head sizes. I 've taken a few falls out on rock and I I 've definitely collided hard with the rock, but my head has always felt well cushioned.

[ I bought this helmet in the AVIP orange back in May, so I have been able to wear it for several months now. Although it took me a bit to get used to bulkier appearance when comparing it to my previous[ other major brand] helmet, it does not feel overly large or bulky. It is lightweight and very comfortable. The new MIPS Integra system is very similar to POC's proprietary SPIN technology with the gel pad liners, which are removable and washable. The bright orange is easily visible, which is nice for hunting season as some of the bike trails in Michigan( where I live) allow for hunting... even saw the guts of a deer once that were left literally on the trail.

[ I started with the first MTB helmet POC offered with MIPS( trabec?). That helmet fit well, but the MIPS liner did n't play nice with my glasses or wearing a head band to keep sweat out of my eyes. The ventilation was n't great either. I then got the next generation tectal with the spin. That helmet had great ventilation and did not interfere with glasses or head bands, but it was so low on the brow that the helmet almost sat on my glasses. I also have the POC AVIP octal road helmet for road and gravel rides and the MIPs liner gives me similar fits to the trabec, but less so. I ordered the Kortal solely for the color being close to blaze orange. Living in Maine and riding in Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont in the fall can be terrifying as everyone seems to be out trying to hunt turkey, deer, moose, bear, etc. This turned out to be the best ventilated, best fitting, least obtrusive concussion mitigation system helmet I 've had. And I 'm pretty sure a hunter wo n't confuse me for a deer, moose, bear, or turkey while I 'm wearing this helmet.

[ I 'm a huge fan of the POC Tectal. Used it for 5 years without issue. The kortal has replaced it forever. It fits a little different, but seems to fit more people better than the tectal. I have the L/XL and it fits about the same as the Tectal's XL/XXL( just follow the size numbers). It's coverage is similar but slightly better than the tectal. It's a bit thicker in the forehead and back/rear edge areas, but it's not noticeable while riding. It vents at least as well as the tectal, but I have yet to ride in very hot weather. I have n't crashed with it yet, but it has a ton of coverage. But for all that coverage, it does n't interfere at all while riding. It's the first helmet I 've used in a long time where I do n't notice it at all. The only minor downside is that the visor is somewhat useless at blocking the sun when it's in the medium or higher positions. But that's okay. It act like a scoop, ramming extra air into the vents. I 'll take that trade- off any day of the week. Fantastic helmet. Quality in every aspect, stylish, and I 've no doubt it will be extremely protective.

I prefer this style of helmet over the conventional high ventilation ones, namely because of the aesthetics. Size M fits my noggin quite snug and I feel this will protect me. Now I needed a helmet for a Onewheel hoverboard I recently purchased and was pleased to notice that this helmet is completely convertible to a skate/BMX helmet. The insulation for cold environments was removable, I found 2 adjustment( 1 on each side) to make a tighter fit, even the clip in the back is removable. I 've owned 5 or 6 helmets for snowboard/BMX over the years and this is the best one.

[ I 've been climbing for over 50 years and used/worn a lot of helmets. In the 60's they were really klunky, heavy, thick, and tended to spin on your head falling forward covering your eyes. In the 70's and 80's only beginners, nerds and ice climbers used them.( Real men, etc. etc.) and the `` brain buckets '' had n't changed much... In the 90's as Ice became more popular, the manufacturers took heed, with the Europeans setting the standard. Early 2000's super light foams made the scene in bicycling and climbing helmets as did more and more climbers and screaming whippers so even the Hard Men and Women could justify wearing crash hats. Mammut, in my opinion, has the best defined helmets, they 've dialed the fit, using lots of fine adjustment and upped the game with state of the art even lighter materials, wind tunnel like designs and cool functioning looks. I am still climbing and wearing a Mammut Helmet and also use mine when riding my bike.

[ As is typical of Bell helmets, this is a really good brain crate for road biking. It's light, fits and breathes well, even on the hottest of days, while being fully adjustable to fit with or without a skull cap. About the only thing that it falls short on is the straps are shorter than I 'd like, such that I only have about an inch of strap beyond the buckle and would prefer to see another 1- 2 inches for better adjustability. This seems to be Bell's new norm, after many years where their straps tended to be too long.

Consistent sizing, no hot- spots or areas where the cinch system pinches or stabs my head.
