I have 2- I black that I 've put through the dryer, the other I 've hung dry. The one going through the dryer has got the pills( like others have mentioned). For me, they 've been indestructible. [ What a great shirt! In receiving the shirt the color was bright but for the primary use it ’s helpful to make sure you ’ re seen when outside and possibly running on roadways. I got the orange color and it ’s vibrant. The shirt isn ’ t the softest and isn ’ t made of a thicker cloth weight but does have a good feel when wearing. I got a Medium size and the fit of the garment is more fitted and would need to size up if wanting more room. I was able to move without feeling restricted or the shirt pulling as I run or workout. I don ’ t know that I ’ ll use them much as the shirt isn ’ t going to provide a ton of warmth but it does have thumb holes to help in keeping your hands warm when cooler. It will be nice during warmer months as it breathes well and isn ’ t heavy to wear. Washing and after doing so the shirt still looks and feels the same as brand new. Still early to determine if it will stand up to further wear but so far so good. Really excited about the High Point long sleeve and looking to get some more!

While running outside in the cold Michigan fall, it kept me warm enough to not need a hoodie, but anything colder than 60 degrees, this is a solid base layer. [ Merino is THE stuff for active comfort in the cold. The key is staying dry between rain, snow, and sweat... it's challenging. 100%( 95 and 88 also good) merino helps to achieve this goal. It's warm when you need it to be and water( all types) evaporates quickly to keep you from getting chilled from damp clothing. It's got to be part of a system though, and you have to use that system properly or you will get damp and cold. We just came back from five nights in our tent@ an avg. of 26F at night. After hiking all day in these and then, putting on fresh Smartwool tops and bottoms we were warm all night( we could have stayed in the same set if we had to). Medium weight is probably fine for most applications, but do be sure you 've got the right system for the conditions. In summer and spring it's less critical, but in winter( THE best time IMO)... having the wrong gear can make for a miserable experience... and a dangerous one. Smartwool has the added benefit of being able to go in the dryer at home... not all merino products can. That's my take.

[ I was somewhat uncertain about this since it seemed a bit thin but decided to give it a try since the weather is now dropping below freezing. I love this and wear it almost daily. I generally wear it like a light jacket rather than a baselayer and it is just enough to take the chill off. I also tried it as a baselayer while hiking. It was fantastic. I shed layers while going up to just this and was fine at about 40 degrees. I added a vest when coming back down and not working as hard. Even though I wear it like a jacket, its not going to block any wind so use it under something else if its windy. Overall, I really like this and would 100% buy it again.

Reviewing this from the POV of an end user& tech fabric geek. Love the materials of the MH AirMesh. Already have the hoody; just bought the crew. Agree w/ those who say it's very warm when at standstill or w/ a wind layer over top, yet while moving or with wind and no wind layer it's like being naked. To me that says the fabric is functioning precisely how a base layer shoulder. Only con is hypothetical: delicate fabric. I 've had no issues with snags, pilling, abrasion, etc. But I would n't be surprised were I to, given the softness of the fibers and the openness of the fabric they 're arranged into. Cut/fit are unremarkable w/ exception of the somewhat high neck hole and the different accent fabric used there. Packs tiny, resilient fibers bounce back into shape immediately. Most comparable to the Patagonia Cap Air wool base layer, minus the itchiness/roughness and the ultra premium price point. Also, like Polartec Power Stretch pro, but much lighter and more airy fabric, fwiw.

In the first image, it is very light and breathable, but the fibers inside seem to be easily lost, and there are some fibers in the hand after a little scratch. I am 167cm tall and my bust is 98cm, so I wear a size M which is very comfortable. I bought 2 at the same time, for me it should be good for sweating a lot without losing warmth. I tried wearing it the other way around and it was a different feeling, like a normal sweatshirt. A very special piece of clothing, worth trying.
